Andon Ryokan; the best place to stay in Tokyo
And on Ryokan is the first designer hotel in Tokyo
And it's conveniently located between Ueno and Asakusa
where Japan's historic past thrives.
The hotel displays Japanese antiques from across the country
And the art is inspired by Aomori prefectures elaborate festivals.
This is from Aomori. I lived in Aomori
So this is from the neputa matsuri float and...
I guess it's the owner's son's wife's stuff
She lived in Aomori so...this is pretty cool!
I was meant to be here.
The hotel was built by a popular designer to resemble a Japanese night lamp.
And...it's a five story steel framed construction
We just arrived at the ryokan right now and...
We're just waiting to check in because we don't get to check in until 6:00p.m
It's really homy. It's very nice in here!
They all speak English, too so I'm really excited about this!
They have a breakfast menu in both Japanese and English
which teaches you Japanese at the end of it.
You can even enjoy a Japanese traditional breakfast!
And, if you decide to hang around the area,
The hotel has a map of all the best places to eat for lunch and dinner!
You can have breakfast on the roof on sunny mornings.
and enjoy the view of Tokyo Sky Tree.
One of the tallest towers in the world.
So if you look behind me, there's the Sky Tree cause we're on the roof and...
you can actually eat up here for breakfast.
It's super wet and rainy out here.
There's no camera that can capture what we're seeing right now.
The rooms are one room tatami
with a futon that folds out.
They got me a little gift here and it's a...
It says my name, Kelly Elizabeth,
welcome. Andon Ryokan.
They also provide traditional bath robes for you when you use the private bath.
So, what I'm going to do first is...
set up the bed. So, this is a futon.
This is me trying to set stuff up.
The bathrooms are shared by other guests
but you can reserve the private bath and Jacuzzi room more than one time.
razors, garbages...
hairdryers...everything that you need to stay at a ryokan
so, this is pretty nice.
The drink bar is free so if you'd like a hot cup of tea after a warm bath,
help your self!
mmm...hot tea.
It was a rainy day so I really wanted to take a hot bath...
It's really relaxing...
It's warm and it's a private bath so...
you can just relax for a while.
If you need help, you can ring the front desk and they will help you with anything that you need.
There are buttons to control the bath and if you have kids...
you can play with the toys.
I felt so refreshed the next morning!
I was ready to eat breakfast!
Good morning...
I want to eat breakfast.
If you can, you can sit over there.
Ah, is that ok?
I just got my coffee...yummy!
If you look inside here, it's butter.
Oh my gosh, it's so cute!
So much cuteness all in one ryokan.
And...the knife is cute.
The owls are cute.
I'm obsessed with owls
So..it makes it my favorite place.
I got my breakfast and it looks so good! It's so big, too
and super cheap.
And I got my egg and this is over easy.
And, I got extra syrup so I'm actually gonna put a little bit more on...
Looks so good...
I really like cinnamon..
mm. It's good!
Not only is And on Ryokan a foreigner friendly hotel,
It's a place to meet travelers from all over the world.
If you look at their website you can easily make a reservation online
Or, give them a call
even if you aren't in Japan.
And on Ryokan has a variety of plans you can choose from.
This includes bike rentals,
an onset package,
cosplay photography,
tea ceremonies,
and more!
The website provides information about the staff,
hotel designs,
facilities,
rooms,
stay plans,
and sightseeing opportunities.
While eating breakfast,
I noticed that the hotel had a lot of other Japanese cultural events you can participate in
each day.
So, I asked the staff about it.
Wow, so you can do Kimono dressing
sushi roll and miso soup cooking,
ehh! Wow!
So, how far in advance do you have to reserve?
um, like one day before.
One day before?
So, maybe for this one, the teacher will come Sunday night.
Ah, this is great!
So you can also do a tea ceremony.
This one is very popular.
On Tuesday, I am the teacher for Ikebana.
eh? Really?
And, sake tasting
Origami.
Must be popular with men!
Travel Japanese lesson at Matcha meeting
Calligraphy lesson
I want to do all of this!
I couldn't have found a better place to stay.
It's an experience that needs to be had!
So, what are you waiting for?
