Specifically I wanted a croissant. 這麼說吧,有一天我想來個可頌,而我 first thought, I should walk around the corner to that cute little French bakery that I’ve 第一個念頭就是,我應該到附近走走逛逛,到一家我一直以來很想試試看的 been always meaning to try. It’s one of those places that you probably have in your 可愛又小巧的法式烘培坊。這種地方大概就是那種明明就在你 neighborhood where you walk by a million times but for whatever reason, you never go in. So I walk over and as I’m getting up to the door I notice this little white piece 接著我就朝麵包店方向走去,正當我要推門進去的時候,我注意到了玻璃門上 of paper on the glass door and it says this: “Closed due to vacation.” Now, typically when I go to a store and it’s closed, I’m usually like whomp whomp, but 通常,我如果要去一家店,但是它沒開的時候,我都會表現出哇~哇~(挫敗)的樣子,不過 this time I was actually like, “OMG, closed due to vacation? It’s a revelation! 這太出乎意料之外了! is a party!” There was no disappointment. In fact, it was super inspiring to me that someone could close 老實說,有人可以因為長假 down their entire business for an extended period of time just for vacation. 沒有人 died, they weren’t going out of business, it wasn’t renovation. Nope, they just wanted 都不是,他們只是 to take time off. So, I got so excited by this idea that I forgot I even wanted a croissant, I ran home, called 所以,就因為這個點子,讓我感到十分興奮,興奮到我忘記我要買可頌這件事了,我跑回家, up my team, and I told them, “We are closing down at the end of the year for 2 whole weeks,” 打給我的團隊,我告訴他們: "我們在年底的時候要休假2個禮拜" and we did it then and guess what, we’re doing it again right now. 我們下禮拜開始 down for the next 2 weeks. Now you’ve got to get, this was a pretty big move for me. Doing stuff nonstop is pretty 要求員工不停地工作 much in my DNA. I mean, I’ve been working consistently since I was 10 years old. I’ve taken vacations, but this idea of completely closing down your entire company for an extended 我會休假出去玩,但為了一個長假就把你整間公司暫停營業, period of time, that’s pretty radical, at least for me. I mean, I know they do that 我的意思是說,我當然知道 kind of stuff in Europe, but I’d never really seen it done here. And in this digital age and since I run a digital company, I feel like there’s this 在這電子數位時代,從我開始經營數位公司的時候,我就覺得這種 ever growing pressure to always be on and always be responding and always be engaging 總是要回應、投入和創新的壓力一直不斷在增長中 and always be creating something new. But the truth is, from my point of view, this 甚至還會創造出新的概念。就我的觀點來看,事實卻是,這種 always on, always pushing, always going, it’s really a sickness and over time it can destroy 總是被要求回應、投入和持續運行的壓力實在是一種病態,而隨著時間過去,它甚至可以把你 you. It can destroy your health and your creativity and your relationships and everything. I mean, when it comes to your team, it can burn them out and take them completely out. And the more experience I have in this world, the more I see that personally, my soul craves 在我以往所擁有的經歷中,我個人看見的情況較多是,我的內心渴望 down time, it craves play time, it craves time completely just off the grid. Now, if you're anything like me and you're super passionate about what you do, even just 如果現在你和我一樣,你是個超級熱衷於你所做的事情的人,就算只是 the thought of taking significant time off can feel scary. I mean, after all, let’s 我是說,畢竟,打個比方吧 say you take yourself off the grid and all of a sudden everybody forgets about you or 假設你把自己從現在的生活中拉離,然後突然間所有人都忘了你是誰,或是 you miss out on some huge opportunity or, goodness gracious, your competitors get ahead. (No~~~) 你錯失掉一個難得的大好機會,又或者是,噢~天啊,你的對手超越你了 (不~~~) But here’s what I learned when we shut our whole company down for 2 weeks last year: 這是我從去年我們把公司整整停工2個禮拜所學到的一些事: it was the best thing we’ve ever done. Everybody, including myself, came back so refreshed and 每一個人,包括我自己,回來的時候都好有精神、 rejuvenated and the entire team came back with new ideas to take the company to the 更有活力,而整個團隊回來的時候,甚至還帶來一些新的點子,足以讓整間公司 next level. I’m telling you all of this because I want you to remember two important things. First 我說這麼多是因為我希望你能夠記住兩件重要的事,第一, up, great things happen when you unplug from technology and you plug into your real life. Now, as much as I love technology, and I really do love it, I have learned it is vital to 而現在,像我如此地熱愛科技(我是真的很愛),我就體認到找個時間做點 take time to just let yourself be. Because if you’re constantly listening to the noise 因為如果你不斷地在聽存於世界上 of the world, it’s impossible to hear the whispers of your soul. What’s that? 我的內心 just told me that’s a tweetable. Now, if you're thinking to yourself, “This sounds great, Marie, but I can’t take 2 如果現在你這樣想: "這聽起來還真不賴,但是瑪莉,我沒辦法現在就 weeks off right now,” or, “I can’t take a whole week off,” that’s completely fine. But ask yourself, can you take 48 hours off? Or maybe just one day? And number two, the whole point of this episode is this: you get to write the rules in your 第二,整集影片的重點是: 你可以開始著手為你的事業以及生活 business and your life. Question everything that you think you have to do, really challenge Do you have to be on Twitter, especially if you don't like it? Do you have 那些假設。 你真的有必要 to work on Mondays? Do you even have to wear underwear? But seriously, do not undercut your ability to craft a business and a life that you truly So now I would love to hear from you. What’s one thing you wish you can do in 有哪一件事是你希望可以在事業上實行, your business that you think you can’t do? And what would happen if you truly challenged
