So there's saving the world...
and then right below that in terms of difficulty?
There's getting interviews on a VERY crowded red carpet!
How was it to be in a movie where you had more comedy scenes than action scenes?
It's a - it's a relief!
Y'know...
It wears thin, doin' the - hitting people in the head
it's nice to TALK about what I'm good at!
How did you know Jason Statham would be so funny?
Y'know...if you've seen Crank
then you know Jason Statham can be funny.
I've just always wanted to put him in a comedy
and when I was writing this, I knew I needed this role of a rival spy
and I thought "this is it!"
"I'm gonna get Jason!"
Was it hard to convince him to do it?
Uh, no, I mean he just wanted to make sure
we weren't going to make him...look ridiculous.
And y'know, to me
Rick Ford is - he's normally a really good agent
but then he mistakes the mistake of quitting
and taking his ear-piece girl out of his ear
and then um, and then
just being so thrown by the fact that who he considers a secretary
it outdoing his job, then he - then he just makes bad decisions.
What I love about Susan Cooper is she's so competent.
How was it going that route instead of the usual bumbling, accidentally successful spy?
Well it was, uh, the first conversation Paul had after I read it
I said "Do you have any interest in doing a spoof? Because I don't."
And he said "absolutely not".
And, and I don't - I mean sometimes I can love those movies
and they can be really entertaining
but I personally prefer to play someone
especially if I think you're a CIA agent
you're incredibly smart
you're incredibly skilled
and you've been vetted by the top agency
and you're not going to be a bumbling idiot.
No, not at all!
And so I didn't wanna - I had no interest in playing her that way.
And I wanted to make sure, like, how she handled weapons...
She could be insecure!
and she was under-estimated
and undervalued
but I wanted to make sure she was still smart and competent.
