  • this song and music video for Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf?

  • Yeah, I liked that.

  • It was catchy and weird

  • and obviously a lot of effort was put into it.

  • The arrangement was really cool.

  • - Yeah, it was. - It was epic.

  • I felt like I was watching Carmina Burana or something.

  • Yes.

  • And the fact that he's in on it just makes it all worth it.

  • I feel like Shia gets a lot of flack for being kind of crazy.

  • And I feel like that is just him totally owning up to it

  • and being like, "Yeah, okay, you know, I am."

  • (Finebros) As a creator, what are your thoughts

  • - on the production value of this video? - It was fantastic.

  • It was like every minute was like a new thing.

  • I was impressed the moment I saw the kids.

  • We had girls coming down with the drapes and the curtains,

  • and then you had the orchestra in the back.

  • There's a lot of people who worked on that--

  • a lot of rehearsal, a lot of working on the prop heads.

  • The production value was way too over the top.

  • I think that's what made it so good.

  • People have too much money and too much free time

  • and watch too much internet.

  • And altogether, happens like amazing things like this.

  • (Finebros) Do you know anything about the origin of this?

  • Nothing.

  • came from all the press about him being scary and drunk.

  • I think I recognize the main singer.

  • I knew the song existed before this video existed.

  • It was like a SoundCloud post, like an audio post on Tumblr.

  • Somebody posted it and they were like,

  • "What is this? Where did this come from?"

  • And then it became like a meme within itself.

  • I love the thought that Shia came across it and was totally down

  • to just [bleep] around with the internet.

  • (Finebros) This actually starts back in 2012,

  • when Rob Cantor, who wrote and performed the song,

  • uploaded just the song onto SoundCloud,

  • which ended up organically going super-viral back then,

  • with GIFs and memes posted all across Tumblr and social media.

  • - Okay. - Oh my god, that's so Tumblr.

  • How did I miss this?

  • Tumblr is the place where the greatest

  • and the most horrible stuff happens.

  • (Finebros) We have a few of the memes that were made.

  • My body is ready.

  • - (both laughing) - "The Shianing."

  • "The Shianing."

  • Yes.

  • That is a baby-face Shia.

  • Every time that an actor becomes a meme for some reason,

  • that is ama-- like, that's so much fun.

  • - (Finebros) Here's another. - "Pumbaa! Hey, what's going on?"

  • "He's gonna eat me!"

  • (shrill voice) "He's gonna eat me!"

  • "Huh?" Shia LaBeouf.

  • (laughing) This is ridiculous.

  • He is like the new Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

  • Shout-out to J.T.T., wherever you are.

  • I feel like I've probably seen these places

  • and just not understood why they were happening.

  • (Finebros) And here was the Wikipedia page for cannibalism

  • - before somebody changed it back. - "Cannibalism."

  • "A person who practices cannibalism is also called Shia LaBeouf."

  • How long did that last before it was taken down?

  • Shia, we're onto you.

  • I love the internet.

  • Trolls, trolls, trolls, trolls, trolls.

  • (Finebros) So why do you think this took the internet by storm

  • when it was just a song?

  • It think it's so left field.

  • The song itself is pretty shareable to me.

  • The premise of the song is so crazy that it's

  • just random enough to catch on.

  • Shia LaBeouf is kind of a little bit crazy.

  • And also, the internet just likes to make [bleep]ery happen.

  • When I was seeing it reblogged

  • and it had tons and tons of comments and stuff,

  • everyone was like, confused, questioning,

  • and then making their own fan art.

  • This is the perfect prompt for the internet.

  • (Finebros) Why do you think someone

  • would even write this song in the first place, though?

  • 'Cause he's a genius? (laughing) I don't know.

  • Is he ever drunk maybe?

  • That's when I get great ideas.

  • He was ahead of his time.

  • The songwriter knew how crazy Shia was gonna get.

  • - It's from the future. - Yeah.

  • He went in time and was like,

  • "I'm going to capitalize on how crazy Shia's gonna become."

  • We have the same when we're driving in our car.

  • We just start saying random celebrities' names

  • or, like, saying really weird things,

  • and then we think it's hilarious. I bet you it's exactly that.

  • And then, yeah, and then we make it into music numbers,

  • like, from Broadway musicals.

  • (Finebros) So Rob Cantor, who made the song,

  • said he came up with it, quote,

  • "by nothing but the sheer silliness of imagining Shia LaBeouf,

  • face and clothes smeared with half-dried blood,

  • terrorizing helpless victims in a dark wood."

  • I love it.

  • (laughs) Well, there you go.

  • Dude, it's always funny when somebody eats people.

  • It's like, Hannibal Lecter? Funny, that guy.

  • He then went on to say, "Really it was more that his name,

  • when whispered really intensely, just made me giggle."

  • - (both laugh) - Oh, okay. I get that.

  • (whispering) Shia LaBeouf.

  • (laughing) It does.

  • (whispering) Shia LaBeouf.

  • (laughs uncontrollably) Okay, I feel it.

  • You can't say that without kind of smiling.

  • (Finebros) And what do you think of Shia that,

  • when this happened, unlike a lot of celebrities

  • that sometimes try to stop these things,

  • he embraced it and even appeared in the video?

  • That's hilarious. I think that speaks for his character.

  • All celebrities should do this and have a little bit of humor.

  • It always feels better when the celebrity's involved.

  • I do pranks.

  • So if somebody's cool about it, it's like, awesome, good sport.

  • Even if he didn't like it,

  • it was the best move that he could have made

  • for everyone to have a positive image of him.

  • Shia's the man.

  • He gets so much [bleep] for being crazy and stuff.

  • But, like, you're awesome!

  • I love Shia. I think he's great.

  • I think he's artistic. I think he's creative.

  • I think he does things that a lot of celebrities

  • wouldn't allow themselves to do.

  • It's because so many celebrities will just have parodies deleted.

  • I've always liked him.

  • The more bizarre he is, the more I like him.

  • I think the fact that he was able to

  • take it, you know, in stride and even help out with it,

  • I think that's pretty cool.

  • (Finebros) So do you think that this was all just a joke?

  • Or do you think Shia LaBeouf is actually a cannibal?

  • It's got to be a joke, man.

  • I don't think he's a cannibal.

  • I think he's actually a cannibal.

  • I think that's the best cover, that he is actually a cannibal,

  • so he might as well embrace this song.

  • but I think he might be now that the song came out.

  • But even if I did think that, hypothetically,

  • I wouldn't say that, 'cause then I'd be his next victim.

  • What if that was just his weird way of telling the world?

  • - would you offer him flesh? - (laughs) No.

  • I guess for the greater good of all of us,

  • yes, I'll take one for the team.

  • I would offer him the most useless flesh, like the elbow skin.

  • I guess it would be like an honor to be like,

  • "Here, you can have part of my foot, buddy."

  • Who wouldn't want to say, "Yeah, I got eaten by Shia LaBeouf."

  • He just ate a little bit of my arm."

  • It would have to be just like a piece of skin

  • or something that wouldn't hurt to remove from the body,

  • then he'd have to eat it separately.

  • I wouldn't want him to eat it off of me. That sounds painful.

  • If I were to give Shia a bite of my arm,
