Practice Text 13: "I'll Sit and Write a Letter"

Have you ever written poetry?

When do people feel like writing poems?

Often poems are about love,

and our next reading is a poem

from a man to his love, who he must leave very soon.

When something makes you part from another person,

you become separated.

When you part, you are no longer together.

The word "since" can have the same meaning

as "because."

This is especially common in spoken English.

Listen for these two words.

Have you ever been parted

from someone you cared for?

What did you do to stay in touch?

Of course, today we have email and video calls,

but writing a letter seems more romantic, doesn't it?
