Now, the first thing you need to do, is choose your class and your race. To help you make this decision, there's a helpful guide on the right-hand side of the screen. As you click, you'll see basic information about your choice. Alright, it's now time to create your character. Now, EverQuest II has one of the most intricate character creation interfaces around. Feel free to take your time, make your character truly your own. Now, it's time to choose your name and server community. If you have any friends who play EverQuest II, you might want to ask which server they're playing on, before you go any further. Sony Online Entertainment, like most companies, has a naming policy; it's long and boring and drawn out, but basically what it says is: don't name yourself anything offensive . Alright, now that that's done… Welcome to EverQuest II! Ok, now for some basics. You, me, everyone who plays the game is called a "player character", or PC for short. Every guard, monster, merchant, and animal. Even cows? Yes, even cows are called "non-player characters" or NPC. Warning!! This tip is for your survival. If you pass your mouse over an NPC, you'll notice their name is in color. Grey is no challenge at all. Red will mop the floor with you! Also, if you notice an NPC's name is highlighted in red, that means it's hostile and will attack if you get too close. Ok, let's take a look at the user interface. We'll take a more detailed look in future tutorials. Across the bottom of your screen, you should see a long bar: this indicates the experience you accumulate, as you hunt and complete quests. It also holds shortcut buttons to some of the more commonly used game features and, most importantly, the main menu button which is indicated by the EverQuest II icon. Your hotkeys are your life saving buttons to everything important. You can direct almost everything here for quick access. Your player window is you, your target window is whatever you've clicked on. Another crucial element of the user interface is: the map. Press M to bring up your map of the immediate area. You are indicated by a little red arrow. Do you see any yellow dots? Those are points of interest, places you might want to visit. Just like over the head of NPCs, a feather indicates where the NPC is that has a quest for you. Books indicate NPCs that are waiting for you as part of a quest you're already on. Alright, I'm not going to bore you any further; we'll have more details in future tutorials. Where do you go from here, well, do you see that little halfling in front of you? She's got a feather above her head. That means she has something to tell you. Looks like it might be a private conversation. I'll leave you two alone. Remember, everyday in EverQuest II, there's a page ready to be filled… and this is where your story begins.
