Hi and welcome back to The English Guide.
In today's lesson, I'm going to be providing you with some alternative ways to saying I think.
Some alternative ways to expressing your opinion.
For example, maybe you're concerned with being respectful in a business situation, so you want to share your opinion or express your opinion, but you want to do it in a way that's polite and respectful and formal.
So I'm going to be providing you with informal ways to express your opinion, neutral ways to express your opinion, and formal ways to express your opinion or say I think, such as in a business setting.
Now there's nothing wrong with saying I think, it's just that it's a very simple, common way to express your opinion, so I want to equip you with some alternative, more nuanced ways for sharing your opinion that will make you feel a little bit more confident when expressing yourself and expressing your opinion.

And I want to remind you that the number one best way to get better at speaking English is just to practice speaking it with someone.
You have to practice speaking in order to get better at speaking English, so I can be that person for you.

Okay, let's get into the lesson.
Here are some alternative, more nuanced ways of saying I think or expressing your opinion.
Let's start with informal situations.
Other ways for saying I think in informal situations are informal ways for saying I think.
The following ways for saying I think are ways you may say I think or express your opinion with friends, family or on social media, for example.
So you could say instead of I think in an informal situation, you could say I believe.
I believe your dog is overweight, for example.
Or you could say instead of I think, it seems to me, it seems to me that this house is in need of repair.
And the last informal way you could say I think or alternative way for saying I think is I'm convinced that.
You could say I'm convinced that I'm going to win the promotion at my job.
Now let's move on to neutral expressions.
The following phrases or ways for saying I think are more neutral, versatile ways for saying I think that work in a variety of settings.
For example, you could say in my opinion.
For example, in my opinion, I think it's better to finish university before you go traveling.
Or you could say from my perspective.
From my perspective, the best solution to this problem is to talk to the professor.
You could also say as far as I'm concerned, for example, as far as I'm concerned, the meeting could have been shorter and more productive.
And lastly, another more neutral way of saying I think is I would say that, for example, I would say that dogs are a man's best friend.
Now let's move on to more formal ways of expressing your opinion or more formal ways for saying I think.
Now, these are going to be expressions or ways for saying I think that are going to help you to share your opinion in a more respectful and formal way.
They're also more sophisticated ways for expressing your opinion, especially in academic or professional settings.
The first formal way of expressing your opinion is very formal.
You can say I am of the opinion that, for example, I am of the opinion that the new intern is underqualified for the job position.
You could also say it is my view that, for example, it is my view that men and women should be paid equally.
Another very formal way for expressing your opinion is to say I hold the belief that, for example, I hold the belief that if you work hard, you will be rewarded.
And lastly, the last formal way for expressing your opinion or an alternative way that's formal for saying I think is my position on the matter is.
You could say, for example, my position on the matter is that there should be a mediation session to resolve the disagreement.
Okay, so that brings us to the end of the lesson.
Those have been some informal, neutral, and formal ways of expressing your opinion and alternative ways for saying I think.
I hope that this will equip you with some more nuanced and sophisticated ways for expressing your opinion that can cater to a variety of different settings so that you can feel a little bit more confident in expressing your opinion in a way that is appropriate according to the setting you're in.
Familiarizing yourself with these different ways of expressing your opinion can help you to feel a little bit more confident and natural in different settings.
