But more importantly, I want to talk about 3D Coat in general and why you should give it a try. 3D Coat is an extremely powerful software, but I feel like it's not getting as much love as I think it deserves.

Personally, my time with 3D Coat was enjoyable, and I can go as far as to say, it was one of the best experiences delving into a new software personally.

And yes, it does have some stuff that you won't get immediately, but that goes for any software for the most part.

And generally speaking, I would say the learning curve isn't steep.

And to prove that, let's take, for example, the retopology workflow. 3D Coat has both manual and automatic retopology.

For the manual workflow, you can easily draw guides using the stroke tool.

This can probably be one of the most powerful tools in any 3D artist's retopology arsenal.

While all the tools have their advantages and shortcomings, for instance, the point and quad tools are able to produce one vertex at a time, and the strokes allow you to sketch and guide your topology.

In the latest 2023.1 release, the software saw a lot of improvements in a lot of areas, especially in the modeling department, with a ton of sketching tools improvements, and new stuff like multilevel resolution, three-leaf generator, time-lapse recorder, auto-UV mapping, surface mode improvements, as well as power smooth paint tool, volumetric color, modeling workspace improvement, and enhancing the import and export features.

For instance, the developers introduced this new system for a multi-resolution workflow, and it is a huge improvement over the old system.

It differs from the previous legacy system in the way it can generate and store both higher and lower levels of subdivision better than just using proxy meshes, which is very powerful, especially when switching between multiple subdivision levels of details.
