And we're going to focus on one particular word: responsible.

我們會著重在 responsible（負責）這個字上面。

But the question is, "What are you going to talk about; how are you going to use it," alright?

但問題在於「你將談論什麼」、「你將如何使用它」。

Just one second; OK.

So, the point is, you can be answering two possible questions, or you could be talking about two possible scenarios.

這裡的重點是，你可能是在回答兩個問題，或是正在討論兩種可能的情況。

Who you are responsible "to" and what you are responsible "for".

你「對誰」負責，以及你「負責做什麼事」。

And, according to that, you will choose a different preposition⏤"to" or "for"⏤alright?

而根據這兩種情況，你將會選用 to 或 for 這兩個不同的介係詞。

Let me give you an example so you understand what I mean.

讓我舉個例子讓你了解我的意思。

If someone asks you, "Who are you responsible to?"

如果有人問你 Who are you responsible to?（你對誰負責？），

they are asking you, "Who is your manager; who is your boss?"

他是在問你：「你的經理或是老闆是誰？」

So, then, you would say, "I'm responsible to John Miller," for example.

於是，你就會說：I'm responsible to John Miller（我對 John Miller 負責）。（我們拿這個名字做個假設。）

Let's suppose, in this example, that you are a marketing assistant.

我們假設在這個例子中，你是一名行銷助理。

You're in the marketing department, you're a marketing assistant, and you have a manager whose name is John Miller⏤he's the marketing manager.

你在行銷部門工作，是一名行銷助理，然後你有一位名叫 John Miller 的經理，他是行銷經理。

So, you say, "I'm responsible to John Miller."

那你就說：I'm responsible to John Miller（我對 John Miller 負責）。

Then, they ask you, "What are you responsible for?"

接著對方會問你：What are you responsible for?（你負責什麼？）。

Now, they're talking about the area that you are responsible for, so, you say, "I'm responsible for the European market," OK?

這時候，他們指的是你的職責內容，所以你就可以說：I'm responsible for the European market.（我負責歐洲市場。），懂嗎？

I'm responsible to John Miller; I'm responsible for the European market.

我對 John Miller 負責、我負責歐洲市場。

Small difference, but it makes quite a lot of difference when you're actually explaining it.

差別雖小，但在實際解釋時，差別就大了。

Let's take another example.

我們再舉一個例子。

Now, let's say you work in the human resources department⏤human resources is also called HR for short.

現在假設你在人力資源部工作，人力資源也簡稱為 HR。

It's also sometimes known as the personnel department⏤not personal, but personnel department⏤but, here, we've written HR.

它有時也被稱為人事部門（不是私人，而是人事部門），但我們在這裡是寫 HR。（譯註：personnel 為「人事」、personal 為「個人的，私人的」，因兩者拼字差異不大而做提醒）。

So, let's say you are an HR assistant, and your manager, your boss, is the HR director.

So, you would say, "I'm responsible to Mary Turner who is the HR director; I'm responsible for recruitment and training," OK?

This is a small example; it's a little lesson.
