I am an English teacher teaching all of  you guys American English.

And in today's video, I am taking you guys with me to the movies.

Right now I'm at the AMC movie theater

and we're going to watch a movie

and we're going to eat some popcorn inside.

Right now I'm inside the shopping mall,

but inside the shopping mall there is a cinema (a movie theater)

but the movie theater is on the very top floor so we have to take the elevator to go upstairs

I am in Newport on the Levee in Newport, Kentucky

and I'm at the AMC movie theater.

So the most popular movie theaters in my area are AMC and also Cinemark.

Those are the two most popular movie theaters,

but AMC movie theater is the closest one to my house so I came here.

But if you asked me which movie theater is better (AMC movie movie theater or Cinemark),

I would say they're pretty similar because they have the same prices

and they both serve the same purpose you go there to watch a movie

Well right now we have to go on the elevator because the box office is on the third floor.

So the box office is the place where you buy your movie ticket.

So come along with me!

If you want to watch a movie by yourself or  with friends,

you normally just say: Do you wanna go to the movies?

You can also say: Do you want to go to the cinema?

Do you want to go to the movie theater?

or... Do you want to watch a  movie?

but normally to sound natural you can just say: Hey, do you want to go to the movies?

and that is the action of leaving your house (leaving your home)

driving to the movie theater and going to watch a movie.

When you go to the movies, you should keep in mind

and know what movie genre you're going to watch.

That just means what type of movie you're going to watch.

Movies can be divided into different genres.

For example, an action movie may involve a car chase or a gunfight.

A horror movie is basically a scary movie

so a loud noise or scary scene might make you jump out of your seat.

Or you might be covering your eyes because you're scared the whole movie.

A comedy will make you laugh.

A drama will make you cry.

A sci-fi movie shows us what the future may look like.

A historical film tells us stories about the past,

and a documentary is basically showing us real-life events and people.

A thriller is a film about suspense, excitement, and tension.

And a romance is basically just a movie about love and romantic relationships.

Of course, there are many more movie genres

but those that I listed are just one of the most popular ones

and common ones and right now I do not have my movie ticket

so come along with me, let's enter the movie theater,

buy our ticket at the box office, and go watch our movie.

Right now I'm inside the movie theater

and I still have to buy my movie ticket (my ticket to watch a movie).

There is no line so I can go ahead and buy my ticket at the box office.

Now if you want to buy a movie ticket ahead of time so you make sure the movie isn't sold out,

you can buy your ticket on the app (on the AMC app)

and you can just click the movie and then you can check all the different times the movie is playing

and then once you pick your time you can go ahead and click 9:00 p.m.

and then you can pick your seat.

So we're going to do the same thing over there

because I'm going to buy my movie ticket over there at the box office.

But, you can pick out your ticket on the app and select it and then purchase it.

I already know what movie I will watch and I'm going to show you guys later,

but inside the movie theater you can actually pick what type of movie theater you want to watch your movie in.

So there are four different types of movie theaters inside AMC movie theater.

There's the Dolby which is basically like  the premium movie theater

where you have reclined seats, you have a more comfortable experience,

and then you have the IMAX movie theater which is pretty similar to the Dolby movie theater

you have a wider and larger screen.

And then the next movie theater is 3D.

Which is basically where you get a  pair of plastic glasses

and you see everything on the screen and images will be jumping out all  around you

and then the cheapest movie theater is the 2D.

The theater is nice, but the screen is  smaller, and the sound is average.

Right now I'm in front of the ticket machine.

I'm at the box office where I will buy my movie ticket.

So how do you work this machine?

Well, you tap to start

and then if you bought tickets beforehand you can pick up your tickets

but since I haven't bought any tickets I will purchase tickets

and then on this screen you can see which movies are playing today

so you can see different comedy movies, movies for kids,

dramatic movies, but I'm going to watch  Hunger Games.

So I told you guys before that there are many different types of movie theaters (the  Dolby and the regular 2D),

but I'm going to watch The Hunger Games at the Dolby Theater at 7:20 p.m..

This movie ticket costs $17 whereas the 2D ticket costs $12.

And if you're a movie member, you can punch in your account number

and earn points every time you watch a movie

but right now I am not a member so I'm just going to continue as guest

and then the screen says how many tickets

Also, the movie starts at 7:20 p.m. and this screen lets me know that it ends at 10:00 p.m..

This movie is really long it's around 3  hours.

Let me know down below what is the longest movie you watched.

Also, right now it's 5:50 p.m. and I'm  right on time for this movie that's starts at 7:20 p.m.

but normally a movie does not start exactly  at 7:20 p.m.

Normally they have advertisements for other movies that will play during that time

and that takes around 10 to 15 minutes.

These advertisements are called trailers.

It's a preview  of a film and it shows off the best parts of a movie before it comes out.

Now I'm going to buy my tickets I'm going to buy two adult tickets

so I tap this addition sign right here

and then it leads me to my total $33.98

I'm going to click next

and then now I am able to select my seat

so these seats are right next to the movie screen but I do not want to sit right at the very front

nor do I want to sit at the very back of the movie theater.

I want to sit next to the middle section

but you can see right here there are x's and that just means that people have already bought their movie  tickets

so I'm going to sit right here

and then click next

and then my subtotal says $33.98  and with tax my total amount is $36.02.

I'm going to check out

and then you can pay with credit card  or your AMC gift card

I'm going to go ahead and pay

and right now my tickets are printing out

and I finally have my movie tickets for my movie at 7:20 p.m.

I have my receipt which says I paid for both movie tickets

and then I have my actual physical movie ticket

which I need to keep this because I have to scan this ticket when I enter the theater.

Now let's go buy some popcorn

Right now I'm in front of the concession stand where they sell the most popular snack, popcorn.

And there are no lines because right  now it is Monday

and no one is here. As you can see there's no one waiting in line

Normally people go to watch a movie on the weekend and that's why no one is here.

Now let me know what day do you normally go to the movies

Now let's go check out what they have because I think I'm going  to buy some popcorn

So behind me is the menu and it shows you the different prices

so a freshly popped popcorn a regular size is $9.49

and a large popcorn is $10.49

but if you want to make that a combo so a large popcorn and a large drink that'll be $18.

You can also buy another type of popcorn it's a gourmet popcorn

so it has caramel and cheddar.

I just got a regular-size popcorn and I'm going to try one to see if I need to add some salt or some more butter.

I think I need to add more butter.

Right now I'm at the condiments area

so basically you can add some butter on top of your popcorn

but if you bought something like a hot dog you can find your condiments here.

You can find mustard, ketchup, and relish.

Right now I'm going to add a little bit more butter because I feel like my popcorn needs it

and I just push right here and then the butter will just drizzle on top of my popcorn.

Over there at the counter, they gave me a free large drink

and this normally costs around $8.

So I'm so glad they gave me a free one

and I can pick between a refreshment like Coke products, Fanta, Coca-Cola zero

or I can go ahead and pick a slushy

but I really love slushies so I'm going to go ahead and mix it with red and blue raspberry

and over here is where you can find your lids (your slushy lids)

you have different size lids. You have a small, medium, and large lid

and this is the perfect size for my large cup.

What do I use to drink out of this cup?

You drink out of a straw this is a straw.

Mmm this slushy and this popcorn is delicious.

Talking about popcorn how do you guys call popcorn in your country?

Because I know in Latin in America almost every country has their different way of saying popcorn.

Now it's time to find my movie theater I can find my movie  theater on my movie ticket

and it says on my movie ticket that I'm at movie theater number 10 at the Dolby

and I'm at the perfect spot I'm right in front of the movie theater

so let's go ahead and check it out.

Right now it's 7:00 p.m. and my movie starts at 7:20

and I'm going to find my seat inside the auditorium.

My seat is G14 so let's go find it.

Now we have to be quiet and find our seat so it's G13 and G14.

Now I'm in Row G and I'm going to find my seat.
