今天要教你五個加強英文的方法

And the best part, have fun doing it

更棒的是 這些方法還挺好玩的

Okay, so starting off with the first one

好 首先是第一個

I know you’ve probably heard this tons of times

我知道 這招你應該聽過好幾百次了

Watching a movie, like you can’t learn from watching a movie

看電影學英文 好像你不知道有這招似的

Well you know what, I actually had this student in Brazil

其實 你知道嗎 我有個巴西學生

And… her English is really good. I asked her where did she learn English

她的英文非常好 我問她去哪學的英文

And she said, “Friends”. Crazy

她說: 六人行。真是瘋了!

But she did have limitations, you know

但她的英文也有些缺點

But some of her grammar maybe wasn’t that great but she communicated really well

某些文法部分有些弱 但她口說真的很強

So anyway, watch a movie or TV series

總之 可以看電影 或是影集

At the beginning, I think it’s a really good idea for with subtitles

初期 搭配字幕觀看也不錯

And even later on sometimes it’s good to see the way the language is broken up

之後 去掉字幕 單獨靠聽力會更好

So here is a quote, the opening scene from a movie called “Rounders”

這裡有句名言 來自賭王之王的開頭場景

A really good movie with…

賭王之王是部很棒的電影

who was it… Edward Norton is in it. Matt Damon I think

誰演的去了…艾德華諾頓和麥特戴蒙

“Listen, here’s the thing. ”

“聽著 這很重要”

“If you can’t spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table,”

“在賭桌上 如果你前半小時找不出冤大頭”

“then you are the sucker.”

“那你就是冤大頭了”

Okay, so any guess what…

好 猜猜這句話是...

I mean, if you haven’t seen the movie, you don’t know what…

我是說 如果你沒看過這電影 就不會懂

At the table. Any idea what the…

at the table指的是賭桌

Yeah, they’re playing poker. That’s it

沒錯 他們在打撲克牌

And the sucker. The sucker is someone who’s easily tricked or conned

sucker指的就是容易被騙的冤大頭

So there’s tons of language in here and this is just

這其中有一大堆英文知識 而這只是…

like the smallest amount right here that I’m giving you

我在這邊只能教你最基本的部分

But throughout the movie, there’s so much that you can get from it

整部電影有太多值得學習的了

Here’s another thing. Read a book, newspaper, or read something online

另一個方法 閱讀書籍 新聞 或網路文章

The only problem with things online sometimes, um…

唯一的問題是 網路文章的品質有時…

Depending on the site, if it’s like a reputable site

其實要看網站而定 如果是知名網站

Like a good site where there’re people who are writing

或是作家聚集的優良網站

and English is their first language or they’re just good writers

有些英文母語的作者 或是善於寫作的人

Then you’ll see very good quality writing. But sometimes

那你就能讀到品質良好的文章 但有時

the writing online can be quite poor

有些網路文章的文筆很糟

So you just have to be careful about that

你要注意的就只有這點

But reading a book, it helps you to expand your vocabulary

閱讀原文書可以增加你的單字量

Helps you with grammar and tenses and things

對文法 時態方面的知識也有幫助

So you know some of the tenses like…

你知道 有些文法很難懂

But seeing it on paper written well,

但在閱讀時遇到的話

you can sort of see better examples of it

就能看到一些優良的使用範例

But one of the most important things, too,

還有件重要的事情是

is choose something that is at your level

選擇符合你程度的書籍來看

Because if it’s not at your level, then you’re gonna get frustrated,

如果選擇太難的書來閱讀 你會很挫折

put it down, and then you’re not learning anything

然後就把書扔到一邊 什麼也學不到

Okay, something else

So, don’t get, you know, all hard on yourself, okay

現在你知道 別對自己太嚴苛

There’s plenty to learn with children’s poems

從英文童詩裡也能學到很多

So here’s a little poem here

There are no happy endings, endings are the saddest part

He was a great children’s author

他是位偉大的兒童文學作家

It’s a great way for you to practice your pronunciation

讀詩是種很好的發音練習

And the rhythm and also, so pronunciation we know that…

還有學習韻律 所以 我們知道發音…

This part rhymes with start. Part, start.

part和start有押韻

You can think of other words that rhyme with those words

你可以想想看有沒有其他單字也押這個韻

So that’s another great thing to do

這也是種很棒的學習方法

The 4th thing that you can do is that you can write

第四個你可以試試的方法是 用寫的

Get an article from the newspaper

找篇報紙上的文章

Find all the nouns, for example, and change them

舉例來說 找出所有名詞 然後替換他們

You can also do the same thing with adjectives.

找出形容詞也可以

Replace them with similar words, adjectives

用意思相近的詞來替換這些形容詞

For more advanced students, you can take clauses and change the endings

英文更好的同學可以找出子句 或是改寫句尾

So for example, “when man first harnessed fire, no one recorded it.”

例如 男人首次用火時 沒人記錄這件事

Well, we could also say maybe, “when man first harnessed fire”…

我們可以改寫成 男人首次用火時…

I don’t know.

改成什麼呢…

Everyone had a barbecue

大家都有烤肉吃

Or we could change man to woman

或者 也可以把男人改成女人

First discovered

首次發現…

Instead of fire, maybe you wanna put nail polish

不一定是火 可以說 擦指甲油

And then, well, anyway, you can

然後…總之 你可以…

You can think of so many different ways to change the sentence

你可以想出各種方法來改寫句子

But we kind of got the first sort of clause here

但我們好像是用第一種的子句

So you can just sort of play around with it

所以你可以拿各種子句來玩

And the good thing this is it really helps you to maybe

好處就是 這也許真的對你有幫助

expand or use certain clauses as ways of writing

拓展文法知識 用特定種類的子句

that you wouldn’t maybe normally think about

這些句子你平時不一定想得到

But you can try it and you can use someone else’s writing styles

你可以試試看 嘗試其他人的寫作風格

So that’s really great. I mean all great artists started off by stealing, so…

這真的很棒 我是說 大藝術家都始於模仿…

Okay, and last but not least, of course

好 來到最後一點 但這當然不代表這點最不重要

The best thing, number 5, talk with someone

第五點 找人聊天 這方法最棒了

But they don’t talk back, so um

但影片不會回應你 所以…

Yeah, you’re probably wondering why am I not talking right now

沒錯 你現在一定在想 我剛剛幹嘛不說話

You probably maybe tried to push the button right there

你可能想按按看下面的播放鍵

I know it’s frustrating, but you couldn’t tell me that

我知道這感覺很糟 但你沒辦法跟我講

I know, so that’s the frustrating thing about videos

這就是看影片的壞處

But they can be good, and anyway

但看影片也有好處…總之
