Hey guys, good morning!
Welcome to
Tagajo city.
I'm in a brand new place today.
You can probably guess what I'm doing.
I have three days left of the Pokemon
stamp rally, so i'm trying to get those
last stamps in.
Don't know if I'll be
able to complete Miyagi in the next
three days, but today I'm going to try
and get as many as I can just in case
it's my last trip.
I have a new
friend joining me!
This is Nadine.
This is
our first time meeting.
She contacted me
and was like, "hey want to go pokemon
hunting?".
I can't say no, so
I am Pokemon hunting with a stranger
today.
Making new friends, this is awesome.
We are in a rush as always, it's about
noon and because the place is closed at
about five, kind of have to run around
really quickly.
So we're at Tagajo right
now looking for our first one.
Let's go.
Bonus manhole!
That must be a famous
temple or something.
Pretty!
I love the entrance of the station here.
It looks like a torii gate very fancy.
There it is!
Stamp number one!
We're doing good, making good time.
cute!
How many can we fill up?
There's not much
space left.
We're doing good, 17 empty
spaces so I guess I have 17 to go.
So I'm actually on another mission today.
So they are selling postcards of the
manholes of every single one in Japan.
I've purchased 50 of them to send to
my Patreon supporters.
So I'm gonna stamp
the backs of these with various stamps
that we go to visit today.
Got lots of
stuff to do and very little time.
This is a
nice little city i've never been out
here, it's a nice river running through it.
Lots of really new buildings they had a
really nice Starbucks over by the
station.
It should be just up here.
Oh I see it!
I see it, yeah yeah yeah.
There!
Your eyes are good!
Yay!
Manhole number one of the day!
Look at that!
Awww.
That's adorable!
Cute, I've never seen one before.
Okay, one down
Nadine was saying that some of the
later ones on our map today are open
until a little past five.
So
we should have a little more time than I
did the last time I was doing this.
It was quite a rush.
Okay we're off to the next one.
Apparently it's only 18 minutes away,
so that's great.
I'm eating my
breakfast, Kind Bars, they started selling
these in Japan!
They're so good.
[Instrumental Music]
You can see the cement wall that they've
built.
It was put up after the tsunami in
2011.
It's supposed to
slow down a tsunami, make it weaker if
one were to hit again.
That wasn't there before.
We made it to the next one.
Shichigahama is where we are now.
We're right
on the coast.
We drove past some nice
views of the ocean a second ago.
There's another Lapras vending machine here!
I
had never seen one before and all of a
sudden they're all over the place.
Here's
the little tourist information center
where they have the stamp.
It's cool that
they have them in here because I learn a
lot about each area when I go in to get
the stamp.
It explains that Lapras is the
symbol of Miyagi prefecture.
[Instrumental Music]
Awesome, I'm totally gonna buy these.
They're selling
the postcards and stuff here.
Normally you can only get these at a
store, not at each location.
So, totally gonna get those.
Look how cute this stamp is
for Shichigahama!
I love Ditto so much.
You won't believe what they're selling
here.
Actually you probably will because
it's probably relatively normal in most
of your countries.
But they have rhubarb!
I have not seen rhubarb since I moved to
Japan
It's the first time.
I would kill for a rhubarb-strawberry pie.
It's frozen though so if I buy it it's
going to be all thawed out and weird
once I get home.
But it's good that I
know it's here, it's not too far from
Sendai.
They've got a little sign telling you
how to get to the manhole.
I love it when
they do that, so apparently it's just
over here.
There it is!
It's adorable.
This is definitely one of my favourites.
Ditto Lapras is the cutest.
Ditto in Japanese is Metamon.
That was a successful stop.
I am so happy that they had the postcards, you have no idea how hard it
has been to get my hands on those.
Right, off to the next one.
Don't think it's too far away.
All right we are at number 25 right now.
We're going to head off this little
peninsula here back onto the coast for
number three which is
this one
in Shiogama.
Shiogama is famous for sushi.
If you are a sushi fan and you're in the
Sendai area head out to the coast of Shiogama.
Some of the best sushi you can get in all of Japan.
Welcome to Shiogama.
So another thing that Japan does that's cute,
that's usually more plain in other countries, is mailboxes.
We have the tuna mailbox.
Because Shiogama is famous for tuna.
Like I said.
So, yeah, come to Shiogama if
you want probably the best sushi in all of Japan.
There it is!
We randomly came across it.
That was easy.
And I think the stamp is inside this
building right beside it.
We've gotten so many in such a short
period of time.
We're doing very well!
Nice.
So many.
Wow.
Shiogama is also famous for salt.
Shio means salt and so they have this
ginger ale salty.
It's a funny name but it's pretty good.
I had it last time i was at a restaurant here.
Alright, we're on a roll.
We're making good time.
i think the next one... is
the cat manhole I've actually been there.
I wasn't vlogging though so I needed to
go back and show it to you guys!
Is that the Ishinomaki one?
[Nadine]: Matsushima is closer.
[Sharla]: Oh, Matsushima is next
Okay.
Later in the day you guys will see my
absolute favourite one.
Can't wait to take
you there, it's so cute.
[Music]
[Music]
So you may have noticed from the shots
on the way here but, the next stamp has
brought us to Matsushima, which you guys
have seen many times in my videos.
But
the stamp location is in a part of the
town that I've never been to before.
What's this one look like?
Oh, this one's
quite worn out as well.
Oh, it's the one
on the bridge.
The little red bridge of
Matsushima.
You'll probably see it better
when we see the actual manhole.
So, this is the area where you catch the
ferry that takes you around to see all
the islands here in Matsushima.
I've never been on it before so I've never
been on this pier.
It's really nice.
[Music]
Over in the distance is the red bridge
that I always go across when I'm here.
[Music]
Wow, I can't believe I've never been over
here.
It's really pretty!
I was missing out.
I love these manholes, *laughs* bringing me to all
these cool locations.
[Nadine]: I'm so glad, right?
[Sharla]: Yeah.
So, apparently the manhole itself is over
in a little park behind the visitor center.
I've never been here before.
It looks really nice!
How did I not notice
this was here?
The water's so clear.
[Music]
(Laughing) We totally missed this... took us a minute.
Aw, how adorable is that?
We're on the hunt for a snack now,
been running around— for a couple hours!
We're getting hungry and Matsushima is a
good place to check out street food.
Lots
of different street foods here.
There's a
famous curry bread shop there.
But they have oysters in them, so be
careful— careful, it's tricked me
two times~
I've wised up now.
But in the bottom of the curry pan is
oysters— so we're looking for something
else...
Alright, we've found a little shop that's
doing local
snacks.
They have some zunda mochi, which
this area is famous for.
You can see the
edamame in the background— the coating on
the mochi is made from edamame.
It's interesting, it's pretty good.
Look what I have found!
Flavored amazake— they have strawberry,
mango, or lemon.
I'm definitely gonna get
one of those.
I've never tried a flavored
amazake before.
Oh wow!
Look the amazake—
fresh strawberries in it!
I'm so excited.
Alright, taste test time!
Mmmm!
Mm~
Oh it's so sweet.
Yeah amazake and
strawberry is such a good combination—
It tastes like a strawberry sundae.
Mmm.
Mine's just coffee, mine's not...
Sendai bean, Miyagi theme— I just have coffee...
It's a fancy coffee!
We have zunda mochi
though.
(do you want some?)
This is zunda mochi!
So this is edamame sauce on top.
And inside is just a regular chewy white mochi.
So thick!
Finally I think I separated one of the zunda mochi.
Here we go!
All right, let's do a taste test.
[laughter]
-Mmmm.
The mochi is a little cold,
it's quite thick but
the edamame sauce stuff on top is really sweet and nice.
Wanna try?
-Yeah!
-Excavate one.
-[laughs]
Yes!
It's good.
-Mm-hm.
It's a little sweeter than it normally is I feel.
Yum!
Okay, we better get off to the next location.
-The next one's Ishinomaki which is the cat one!
-The best one, you guys are gonna love it.
Okay, we lied again.
So we were just at number 24
and number 2 is where the cats are,
but there's another one in the middle that we were unaware of.
So stopping by that one, and then we'll head to the cats, I promise!
[happy music]
So this is Higashi Matsushima.
It's just on the outskirts of Matsushima where we were a second ago.
It's basically just a residential area, there's not too much going on here.
Canada and Australia.
Australia, oh!
We're collecting the manhole stamps.
Nice to meet you!
What's your name?
My name is Bond.
Bond?!
James Bond.
James Bond?! [laughter]
Nice to meet you, bye!
Thank you!
[laughter]
So nice.
Ah, cute!
Whoo!
There it is!
It's a very blue one.
Okay I promise the next manhole we're going to is the cat one.
We have double checked.
So the reason that the next manhole has all the cat Pokemon on it,
it's because it's in Ishinomaki, and that is
just on the coast right by cat island.
Which you guys have been to if you've
been following me for a while.
You've been with me when I went on my trip there years ago.
I'll link that video down below if you missed it.
It's like a retro video now.
It's super old,
but it's quite a long trip.
It takes a while to
get out there on the boat and then come back
so we won't be going to cat island today
but you guys can watch that if you're interested.
But yeah, let's go!
The best manhole in Miyagi I would say.
[Music]
We've made it to Ishinomaki.
This is definitely where I'm going to be
stamping lots of my Patreon postcards
because it's my favourite one.
They've got some Lapras goods here as well.
Cider flavored Lapras candies.
Cute!
So, this is the manhole.
How cute is that?
Best one!
Do you guys agree?
And then the manhole is out here in, like, a sketchy alleyway.
(Laughter)
By a vending machine.
It's such a weird place to have it.
That's a pretty one!
Best one!
Nadine: Oh it's super colourful!
Sharla: Yeah, I think that's why I like it.
And the Meowth is just really cute.
Riding on the Lapras ferry.
Ah so cute!
Love it!
It's going to be hard to top this one
but we're going to probably visit three more.
So, you never know.
Might be something
super cute on the way.
[Music]
So the next stamp location closes at
5:00, it's currently 4:48.
No sight of the stamp yet.
We're just on a road, in basically
the middle of nowhere.
There's not much out
here but pretty rice fields, so hopefully
we can get to the next one.
The map is
saying it's still 10 minutes away, so
this is cutting it close.
Yeah fingers crossed.
We may have arrived, but these buildings
look very closed.
and it's not 5:00 yet.
No we have five minutes!
It looks very closed.
Very closed...
yeah.
Oh yeah, I think I see it in there!!
Ahhh, no!
Well, at least we can go see the manhole.
We can see the manhole.
No stamp, but we can
see the manhole.
It's the five o'clock song.
[Music]
Wooo
Ah at least we could see this before the
sun went down.
[Music]
Okay back to the car.
It's so cold!!
This is a cute little town that we're in.
I love the little lights lining the
streets.
It's really pretty!
Not much going, on everything seems to
shut quite early here, because we're
quite out in the
countryside at the moment.
It's not a big
city so unfortunately we couldn't get
that stamp.
We had to make some strategic
decisions about the next few because,
a couple of them do shut at 6:00.
Don't think we can make both of them before
6:00.
We've arrived at the next spot.
They didn't have a time on google maps
saying when they closed and everything
looks very closed here as well
unfortunately.
But apparently the manhole
itself is like, right outside the car?
Somewhere?
It says we're going straight towards it...
Maybe in the park there.
There's no more road left.
Ah!
Is that it?
Ah yeah!
Yeah yeah yeah, that's
definitely it!
Good eye.
So this is like a little cabin, villa?
There's a bunch of like, little cabins
that people can rent I guess?
and we thought the stamp might be in
here.
I see it!
It's in there, is it open?
Oh there's the manhole!
Here's the manhole.
A dark manhole Dodrio.
Let me put a light on it.
That's nice!
What's the Lapras doing?
He's
like riding the train.
[Laughter]
They've brought this sign for the stamp
rally inside so I think it's
probably closed.
Oh it's open still!
Okay I gotta go get
my stamps, they're in the car.
I think they turned on the light for us!
Yay!
For some reason there's a selection of
foreign snacks here.
[Music]
Oh
Hi, you can't really see us but we are in
a very quiet town.
Just missed the stamp
by three minutes, the place shut.
But you can see the manhole.
I think
it's around the corner here.
Oh nice,
lighting!
Some really pretty old style
buildings here.
Really nice towns it's bringing us to!
Aw and look at this bridge!
You can't really tell but it's a nice
traditional bridge and it's got some
lanterns on it.
River running through the town.
The manhole should be right out here, is
that it on the road?
yeah!
oh there it is!
look it is yeah.
So this is Osaki, is the area.
Yay!
Glad we could at least see the manhole.
All right we're making a quick convenience store stop before our last manhole.
During the winter in Japan, everything is strawberry themed
because winter is strawberry season here.
All the chocolates.
All the cookies.
(Giggles)
So they have a Kuji going on right now.
Kuji is a lottery.
You buy a ticket,
usually for around six dollars.
Yeah, 6.50.
And then you will win one of these prizes.
You don't know which one.
The chocolate towel is super cute!
Look at it!
It's like a Meiji chocolate bar.
I love that.
Welcome to Osato Michi-no-eki,
which is very closed at the moment.
But we have a gigantic edamame in front of us
and we think that the manhole is right where that is.
So we're going to go and see the giant edamame.
oh there's two!
One Pokemon and one, just local one with a giant pudding man.
(Laughing)
Oh and fireflies!
Yeah so this town is
famous for fireflies.
i think firefly season's in the summer.
Nadine: I think, so yeah.
Want to see some fireflies, i've never
seen them before!
So maybe i'll come back
in the summer, we can try and hunt
some fireflies together.
But
here is the manhole!
Probably the second to last one we will
see today.
There's one more on our way
back to Sendai.
We saw quite a few, i think we did really
well!
Oh here we go, here we go.
All right i'm gonna take one out, there's
a rogue.
i think one broke down here, but
let's see.
It's cute!
Oh it has the name, look at
that.
It's Dratini!
Nadine: It's a very big packet so.
Sharla: Oh I got.
Oh it's Lapras!
How fitting.
Lapras.
Good note to end
snack time on.
All right, we are off
to the last manhole of the day!
And we
can also get the stamp there, so that's
exciting.
One last outdoor adventure,
one last manhole.
And then we're gonna
head to the mall to get the stamp and do
a bit of shopping.
I want to get Maro
some cat grass.
There isn't a pet
store near my house so every time I go
somewhere that has a pet store I pop in
and get him some cat grass because he's
an addict.
Hopefully we can find this one.
We're just at an intersection.
There's nothing of
importance around here, so we don't
really know where it would be.
Oh there it is!
Yay!
What an obscure location.
Yay!
Oh it's a cute one.
so this is Rifu area, we're getting
pretty close to Sendai now.
I guess
they're famous for that, looks like pears?
Could be wrong, could be apples.
Very cute.
One last photo and then we can go inside
and warm up.
So luckily there is a Village Vanguard
here.
I can get some more postcards if
they have them in stock.
Even the shops
though have them sold out.
Every one I go to, if i'm lucky they might
have like a small handful of them.
It's so colourful in here.
ah cute!
Here's the Pokemon stuff.
If they did
have something it would probably be
around here.
I want to see what this looks like.
Oh there's all Pokemon stuff on this side.
Don't
see any
of the Pokelid stuff unfortunately.
Oh wow they've got Charmeleon
stickers.
You don't see that very often.
They also had a ufo catcher over here.
I really want the Slowpoke, I might try
for it.
[Gasping]
No!
One more, do I have another?
last one.
Come on give me the Slowpoke.
So close, why.
Oh that was so quick.
They got some fun stuff here.
It's a little coin purse.
Japan has an obsession with Gizmo
not like the Gremlins movie, you don't
really see anything other than just
Gizmo stuff.
Look what I found, they have Animal
Crossing hoodies!
They're quite cute.
All right, now to find the stamp.
The
problem is the sheet that gives you the
location of the stamps only told us
the address of the mall, and that's it.
And it's a huge mall, it's probably the
biggest mall I've ever been in in Japan.
So
we don't really know where to look
for the stamp.
We're just gonna wander
around and hopefully come across it
before the mall closes.
All right we are gonna ask the
information desk, we've given up already.
That was quick.
We just passed a huge gacha store!
tempting.
Gotta focus.
All right so apparently it's
up here.
Oh there it is!
Oh right by the game center, that makes
sense.
All right this is the final stamp of the
day, and it might possibly be the final
stamp that I collect of this stamp rally.
There are only a couple days left, I
don't know if I'll get a chance to go
out hunting again.
lLt's see how many I managed to end up
with.
Oh it'll be a satisfying row finishing
stamp, love that.
um 16, 8, 24.
Not too bad!
sharla: the last stamp!
all done!!
all right guys I think that wraps up our adventure for today,
I will link Nadine's channel down below!
Go check it out for more adventures in japan.
And i'll see you guys again very soon!
Bye for now.
Nadine: bye!!!
*music*
