hello Hello friends hey guys it has been
a while it's been a while happy New Year
happy 2023 2023 is upon us was 2022 the
fastest year of your life oh man we say
that about every year but yes yes it
certainly felt that way so before we
dive into today's video we wanted to
take a little moment to wish you a happy
holiday season that has already passed
so really we hope you enjoy the holidays
we're wishing you all the best in the
year ahead may you be able to accomplish
all your goals and dreams and pursue
everything that excites you that's kind
of what we're doing that's what we're
doing these days and it's it's exciting
we've been making good progress here yes
here in Argentina it just I'm kind of
amazed every time I go to the property
it just looks a little bit different
we've cleared a little bit more the
workers we've hired have done a good job
yes and yeah we're we're thrilled with
the progress exactly so we are going to
start being a lot more consistent with
the videos the renovation videos you
guys have been asking for those so they
are starting this coming week and yes we
are excited to share the journey with
you because the place is looking like a
proper construction site these days in
all fairness we've been more social than
than we normally are so we have
I spend the holiday season so do forgive
me we've we've met some really nice
friends here in the village we've got
invited out to some nice places and we
kind of got swept up by the World Cup
fever yeah that was the last video I
mean yeah with with all that going on
now things have settled down a bit and
we can just get back to a more normal
routine yeah so like we said we just
wanted to take a little moment to thank
you for being a part of the channel and
also show some appreciation all the
comments you guys leave us like all the
feedback the emails the messages we
really do appreciate you being a part of
the channel and we hope you're excited
yeah for 2023. absolutely we are joining
us so with that being said let's dive
into this week's video
well guys
here we are good afternoon in this video
we are going to be clearing out the
kitchen so basically we're starting with
the big task of clearing out every
single room in this house free of
furniture
boxes garbage anything you can possibly
imagine
um because if we're going to stick to
our schedule of having this renovation
completed by the end of March we need to
start hurrying it up and there is a lot
to do so I already kind of started this
task yesterday I did film a few clips
for you guys uh basically just clearing
out Furniture Machinery uh the spider
webs the dirt on the walls on the
shelves on the cupboards
um but there's more to be done I have
barely scratched the surface worry not
so today I actually came armed with a
mask because I realized I'm kicking up a
lot of dust and I don't know if there
have been rats in there rats mice I'm
kind of suspicious that there could be
some nests and uh some people in the
comments were reminding me of the
hantavirus so yes yesterday I just
wrapped a shirt around my face today I
thought okay let's use a mask
so that is kind of the plan for today
um this is going to be a task that takes
several days little by little
I've got my little flashlight here this
is cool I'm borrowing it from the the
cottage that we're renting and you
charge it via USB I can just plug this
in at the end of the day and I'm ready
to go the following day so that is the
plan it's hard to show you the the
spider webs hanging from the ceiling but
I am going to try to try I feel like I
need a zoom lens or something here can
you see that
like that's what the ceiling looks like
so
Mia lots of work to be done oh man I
don't know if I'm looking at some rat
nests on the ground but there's like
weird stuff there
um
yeah like what is that is that a nest is
that just piles of dirt how did the
piles of dirt get here
how did it get here that is my question
didn't drop down from the ceiling
so
leads me to believe perhaps a critter so
we'll see what we find there could be
dead animals in here dead rodents uh let
us begin
[Music]

[Music]
also I'm kind of eager to see if I can
open this door
that would be
would be nice
oh look at that
oh my gosh
[Music]
well well I feel like I'm going to enjoy
working here a lot more now that there's
more Daylight otherwise it just looks so
freaky right so I'm just taking off my
mask for a little bit because I'm not
gonna be a sweeping up dirt quite yet
but I wanted to show you something
because I was actually talking with my
dad earlier this afternoon and he shared
a really interesting fact about this
house that I did not know so even though
this house was built in the 40s and and
people lived in it the electricity
didn't come to this Village until the
70s so that is three decades over 30
years of people getting by with uh like
little lamps like this one that would
have run on kerosene or like some type
of oil and this is what people would use
to like illuminate and get around once
once the sun went down so if you wanted
to read your book by the stove before
going to bed or whatever you would have
lit one of these and and sat there right
next to it so yeah that's that's kind of
fascinating the fact that there was no
electricity here until the 1970s but I
suppose it shouldn't surprise me that
much because I remember when I moved
here in 1994 we still didn't have
telephones there was no phone line no
phone service in this area and I
remember it was a pretty big deal a
pretty big event when it was finally
installed and we got a telephone in the
house and I remember that our our phone
number only had five digits because that
is how rural we are that is how small
this place is
so yeah that's a cool little fact I'm
sure we're gonna find more uh more lamps
like these and of course we're going to
be keeping them as decorations these are
antiques so another interesting thing I
wanted to show you that I kind of
noticed the other day as I was cleaning
up are these um like chair cushions
these were the seats on the wooden
chairs that I took out yesterday I don't
think that's salvageable it's just
covered in mold mold that is too many
colors there's white there's yellow
there's green I don't even want to
really touch it so yeah we'll probably
get some some new seats for the chairs
new material but yeah I'm just showing
you things as I discover them so another
special item that was a little harder to
see the other day but now we've made
some space here in the kitchen is this
old fashioned stove a thing of beauty it
says
industria Argentina so it was made in
Argentina by the brand dompe and Company
apparently it's gonna need some repairs
my dad was telling me that it never
worked because I guess there was a crack
or something so when you would light the
fire you would just get smoke coming out
so it needs to be welded somewhere so at
some point once the time comes we will
have to bring a welder to to look at
this but let's see if we can open oh
there's still wood in there so somebody
made a little fire at some point there's
also plastic bags
but yet this thing weighs a ton there's
just dirt inside just dirt I'll show you
right so now I'm going to continue with
the same task I had yesterday uh I've
got this little I still don't know the
name for this but it's for like mopping
squidgy or something anyways I'm going
to attack the spider webs that are still
hanging I got a lot of them yesterday
but there's still quite a bit left and I
just wanted to look and feel a little
cleaner otherwise every time you walk in
here it just like it sticks to your body
and it gives me the Shivers so let us
clean

all right I found something really
interesting that I wanted to show you
guys
so when when my family had to return to
Canada and same with like my aunt and
uncle and my cousins when both families
decided that things that weren't going
very well here with the economy both
families tried to sell off as many
things as possible including clothes
um just everyday personal items you know
and on this plastic bag I found uh three
button-down shirts four dollars seven
t-shirts three dollars ten could it say
shorts three dollars I think that's
where this bag comes from just like when
they were trying to to sell off
things they kind of had like a garage
sale
[Music]
here we are just shoveling dirt out
[Music]
all righty
suppose I can show you what um items are
still left in the kitchen okay so I just
opened up one of the cabinets
found some old pots and pans
some dishes I don't know what this is
coffee maker in the back lots of mold
and then down here more cooking plots
there's a thermos in the very back a
very 80s thermos you got a little frying
pan in there
some mason jars yeah still left over in
this kitchen well friends now for
the real find
my first Mouse skeleton
there it is turns out there were mice
and rats in here maybe that's what I've
been cleaning out A Rat's Nest
good thing I'm wearing a mask there he
is rest in peace well Sam just came from
his shift how's it going I'm exhausted
oh yeah
it's one of the best work sessions I've
had here
um I'm clearing a trail to another
building and yeah there's a lot I
cleared the path all the way there
I know I'm clearing a boat around it
there are a lot of
sarsa
those tiny little trees to cut down lots
of bushes so
good day though man exhausted this is
the sweatiest I've ever seen you can you
take your hat off and just show us on
camera
yeah you're here but look at this oh
it's gross we have the
the world's most necessary shower going
in
going in
whoa let's open the side door wow
it looks so much better like you've
really cleared it a lot progress
progress you know this is great because
we're we're both working on our own
individual projects and uh and we're
both making a lot of progress I'm
actually not going to show you what I've
been doing until a week or two from now
because I want you to see the entire
thing done what's what I don't know
spider webs no right there
so you see a skeleton
no oh my gosh right there oh
that's a mouth
it didn't make it apparently from what
decade it's been there for a while
there's no uh signs of a flesh or fur
all right guys good afternoon hot hot
summer day over here but I have some
good news part of the materials we need
to start rewiring the whole house have
arrived they have been delivered so I
came running over to the property to
collect those we're going to put them
into storage but in a matter of days
we're finally finally gonna be starting
with that project so that is very
exciting new cables inside the whole
house and also like running down from
the main street across the property to
the house because like oh there's
several houses in a hotel here that we
need to feed electrically
um so we're getting some some newer
cables and some wider cables that are
going to be able to uh satisfy the needs
shall we say of all these different
constructions once they're being lived
in and once we've got guests and that
kind of thing cables
voila
all right guys so checking in for a
little update here I forgot to bring my
little my light my lamp today
um so I've got you on the window frame
but basically the plan for today is
we're going to be taking measurements of
the kitchen uh basically getting an idea
of the dimensions so that we can start
designing the kitchen now that I've
cleared quite a bit of the Clutter and
the garbage out there's still you know a
ways to go but we're making progress
with that so I'm gonna be going to a
store they sell like Construction
Supplies building supplies and like they
do plumbing and electric and Roofing and
all that kind of thing and they offer a
service where they'll design a kitchen
for you or they'll design a bathroom and
they do that for you and you buy the
materials there so it's kind of like how
they hook you and reel you in but
anyways that works great for me so
that's one of the things that I'm going
to be doing in the coming days so yeah
just measuring everything taking notes
so I've got like a rough not a rough I'm
precise so I have a precise uh sketch of
what I've got here and we can kind of
start building it out planning it out so
if you've got some ideas
there's a lot of trash around the
property and I just found a sock and I
have a bottle of water so I thought
maybe we can look at the floor tile we
have together and reveal the color the
design underneath the mud and the dirt
uh so why don't we clean it together and
see what's underneath because I kind of
remember it as a reddish color in this
foyer area I don't even know what the
kitchen looks like it might be the same
but yeah it might be nice to discover
what we're standing on
wow
that looks nice so check that out guys I
think that looks pretty nice I think we
could try to um keep the tiles and just
incorporate them into the design they're
almost like a wine color which is cool
we are the wine enthusiasts so yeah I I
kind of like it vintage vibes okay now
we're gonna do the kitchen looks like a
different color this one looks more gray
but we'll see what the water and a good
scrub reveals
foreign
situation a bit of a surprise the foyer
and the kitchen do not match so we've
got the wine color with the Speckles uh
here in the foyer and then more of a
gray in the kitchen
so what do we think keep both keep one
of them tear it up I kind of like it I'm
trying to keep uh the house as authentic
as possible to the period to the time it
was built in so I do like it I think the
floor could be salvageable
um to be honest
but yeah it doesn't match not
necessarily an issue but I'm open to
thoughts suggestions and ideas I think
if we were to replace the floor
I'd want I want wooden floors to be
honest and like wide
I'm forgetting my English why did not
beams wide table honest I would want
wide pieces white planks wide planks of
wood
um that would kind of be the The Rustic
style I would go for but that being said
I also think we can work with this I
feel like it's neutral enough it's
nothing crazy so who knows well hello
hello everyone
here we are it has been a while since I
picked up the camera so this always
feels a little bit strange but my
goodness I thought it would be good to
actually sit down and catch you up uh
because the footage that I filmed like
when I was cleaning up the Chalet and
organizing all of that and Sam was
working in the garden that was actually
a couple of weeks ago now and there's
just been a lot going on behind the
scenes and we just haven't been filming
as much we really are planning to change
that for January and get back to our
regular posting schedule on weekends
um I know it has been a little bit
scatterbrained but like I said a lot has
been happening for starters my credit
card got hacked not even here in
Argentina someone in Canada has been
using my credit card so that was a
lovely little surprise to wake up to
during the holiday season I went to pay
my bill and I saw
I saw like all these charges and I'm
like what is this I have not been using
my credit card this month it should just
be my monthly phone bill
and I click in and I see that somebody
in Winnipeg has been ordering skip the
dishes and like several times this
wasn't a one-time thing so yeah it took
a few days of like going back and forth
with the bank and you know getting on
the phone explaining the situation to
different people
um but anyways that is getting sorted
but that was kind of like threw me for a
loop
um then we nearly ran out of water like
the place where we're staying the place
we're renting the well actually ran dry
and we had no water in the well for a
while like when you would look in it was
just mud and it got to the point where I
had to go to the fire department and ask
them about getting a tank with water
like them coming down with with one of
their trucks and like refilling the tank
we have on the roof which is the water
we use for everything for cooking for
drinking for showering all your water
needs
um but anyways thankfully thankfully the
morning that the fire department was
supposed to come over
we went and we checked the well and we
saw that the levels had come up a little
bit uh so that was very very exciting we
were able to to cancel with the fire
department and we're making do with what
we have and like one of the reasons I
wanted to keep using the well water is
that it's it's drinking water if the
fire departments were to come and fill
our tank they would just be like pumping
from a random River and then we can't
drink the water anymore so yeah that
water situation was a little bit
stressful for a little bit it is very
dry but it is the rainy season
um if that makes sense we actually get
our rainy season in the summertime
um so it has been quite dry because we
haven't been getting all the rain we
should be getting but apparently that is
about to change now in January we are
expecting some pretty big rainstorms
speaking of storms the other day I went
into town to run a few different errands
and I got caught in the biggest hail
storm I have ever experienced like this
was
apocalyptic let me tell you
I have never seen kale come down so hard
for so long and in such great quantities
so I actually pulled out my phone and
and filmed a few Clips to show you guys
because I feel like otherwise nobody
would believe me
um basically I was like out there in the
street I could see you know rain dark
rain clouds off in the distance and I
thought okay it's gonna rain and then
this crazy wind this starts to pick up
and like blow this fine sand into my
eyes so I went into my friend's dental
office because I was getting a ride back
with her
um to wait it out and then you start
hearing the
talk
and like the hail just started coming
down
oh my oh my I I thought by the time we
we exited the building like the glasses
the windows were gonna be smashed the
the cars the windshields I was expecting
to see smashed windshields because it
was just so loud and so intense
but anyways I am told this is very
common uh here in the area which is
another reason why we are putting a
metal roof on the Chalet a lot of a lot
of people in the area
have been switching over from the
colonial tile that terracotta tile uh
two metal roofs
um because of the hail because if you
get a really solid pounding that can
crack
all the tiles and then you need to like
replace great part of your great part of
your roof so yes that's one of the
reasons I got a haircut
I probably should have mentioned that at
the beginning but while I was running
errands that day I also got a bit of a
chop you know it was starting to look a
little messy and stringy so
is a nice summer cut and what else can I
tell you what have we been up to
Christmas here was pretty chill it was
just Sam and I we had a a quiet day in
just the two of us we ordered
cannellonis with ricotta and spinach and
tomato and cream sauce they were
delicious but we didn't really do like
anything big anything major like our
friends were out of town either like
visiting family members in the capitol
or you know doing different things so it
was just us around here
um but today which is the 31st we are
going to a New Year's Eve party
so that'll be nice I have to have to say
it just didn't feel very very
Christmassy for us especially at least
for me because we're so used to snow
like having a wintry Christmas and I
find that if there isn't snow on the
ground and I'm not listening to
Christmas carols for a month and a half
leading up to the holidays it's harder
to get into the spirit so for us it felt
more like we're on summer summer holiday
Chris not Christmas Vacation summer
holidays summer vacation
um that kind of vibe so yeah that's what
we've been up to lately and oh I wanted
to do a little Show and Tell I went
shopping for some Christmas gifts for
the children in the village where we
live because the the Gaucho Association
for like the Gaucho families in the area
they're putting an event for the
children in January and this is a bit of
a cultural difference in Canada we're
used to opening our Christmas gifts on
the 25th in the morning but here they do
something called Dia de redes and it's
the day of the Kings or the three wise
men who come bearing gifts but they
celebrated in January and I'm not
exactly sure when in January it is I
know it's at the beginning might be the
fourth or the fifth but anyway they're
gonna do a little parade with the three
wise men for the children so I went
shopping
so I bought like uh I don't know a
variety of things like this is a little
tool kit
um here's another one with like you know
Hammers and saws that type of thing they
had some cooking utensils spatulas
the Argentine version of My Little Pony
and like some musical instruments a
little flute and a tambourine
and then I also got like little things
like yo-yos I used to love playing with
yo-yos when I was a kid and then I got
some cute like little pens that have
like little animals Little Unicorns
astronauts just different
little characters oh I got a
I don't know this like playset with
teacups and saucers and little kitchen
items
and then also some candies I don't know
what kind of candies kids like nowadays
around these parts but basically these
are like little raspberry or strawberry
gummies so I got like different flavored
gummies which I hope they will enjoy
these are called mobile and then Push
Pops I got loads of different flavors
of Push Pops
so yeah that's gonna be my contribution
to the group
and yeah it'll be fun I'm trying to get
more involved in like local community
stuff so whenever they have an event I
like to participate and like go to
meetings and stuff like that
so I think that's the that's the little
sit-down update I mean I don't think I
have anything new to tell you guys we
are planning to get back on a more
regular filming and uploading schedule
in January and we are starting to go
hard on the renovations in January like
I finally have the roofers coming
I had to find new roofers because the
other people were just taking forever I
get that they're busy with other
projects but I also have the goal to
have the Chalet completed by the end of
March and if we're going to stick to
that goal we
we gotta stick to a schedule we gotta be
working in a very timely manner uh so
yes we've got roofers and electricians
working all of January we'll be filming
that updating you we've had a few little
snags along the way uh but we're getting
those resolved so yes more renovation
videos lots of you have been asking show
us more of the renovation so I will do
just that
um so yeah that's it for today's video
we're gonna go get ready for the New
Year's Eve party and yeah just wishing
you a happy 2023 I hope you guys will be
able to pursue all your different goals
and dreams and all the best in the year
to come and that's all for now
