Ben and Joe are talking after class about idioms concerned with dogs and cats.
Ben: I have been thinking that we humans are not doing dogs justice.
Joe: That’s an interesting idea. How is that?
Ben: Dogs have been considered man’s best and most loyal friend,
but every phrase related to dogs seems to have a negative meaning.
Joe: I haven’t noticed that.
Ben: You see, we often say “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
What’s more, one may be living “a dog’s life.”
Joe: That’s really bad.
Ben: Cats, on the other hand, get better treatment.
Joe: How?
Ben: Well, at least “A cat has nine lives.”
It has a better chance than “a dog’s chance.”
Joe: That makes sense … (Silent for a while)
Ben: Has the cat got your tongue?
Joe: No, I was just thinking.
What will you say when it starts to “rain cats and dogs?”
