  • what is going on?

  • Ladies and gentlemen vega buddies, welcome back to the channel today.

  • In this video we are doing something a little different.

  • It's been a while since we've done a Q and A right, we've asked you to ask us questions and in this video we're gonna answer them.

  • Right?

  • So we're currently around the world filming for our new travel television show, Budget versus Baller.

  • So go check on our instagram to see where we are today.

  • But in the meantime you have asked this question, so we're gonna answer them.

  • They're all over the place.

  • They're really great questions.

  • Let's get started with question numero uno Question number one at mov mall asks, do either of you speak other languages and how have they helped you in your travels?

  • Right, so we both speak spanish.

  • That's really useful.

  • Languages spoken by tons of people all around the world.

  • One of the most widely spoken languages I think after mandarin is number two.

  • So very good language, you know, not to mention both of us are pretty much conversational in french, even though we probably speak like five year old Children, we can get by in french speaking countries.

  • Also a little bit of Portuguese.

  • I think if you had to add one language addition to english and spanish french would be a great choice.

  • Alright, number two brian and barrett asked us if you could go on a motorcycle trip for a weekend, anywhere in California.

  • Where would you go?

  • We live in Los Angeles.

  • So I would take highway two up to big bear and over into the desert Eventually heading to Death valley.

  • I really love Big Sur.

  • Every single time I, every time I can I go up the highway one up to Big Sur and I have some cool spots.

  • I go to up there at Mike Schwartz asks, is there a place that you heard was amazing but you were let down or disappointed when you arrived there for me?

  • Probably me and my in Burma.

  • I went there in 2008 or 2009.

  • Excuse me, every single traveler I'd met in Southeast Asia backpacking area was like, oh my God you have to go to Myanmar.

  • It's like it's like Thailand before tourism.

  • But in reality I found this political situation there is really intense, which is very eye opening.

  • But the country itself, I was a little bit let down in terms of geography, although people were super, super friendly for me.

  • It's got to be las Vegas and a story at Kendra Sturm asked us, have you ever been pick pocketed while traveling?

  • Yeah.

  • So Marco and I, when we were living in spain, we were coming back from the airport in Madrid and I felt somebody like take something out of my backpack um eventually tracked the guy down without him knowing I saw him pull out my camera from his pocket and put it back in there.

  • So I came up behind him and pickpocketed him and I called him out in spanish called him a thief and publicly shamed him.

  • I one time lost my backpack.

  • It was stolen from me while I was busy with other activities on the beach.

  • Late night after a fiesta in spain as well.

  • So keep your eyes on your belongings when you're partying in spain.

  • Next up at rain dance moyes's asks, what are some ancient cities that you think would have been cool to visit when they were around for me hanging gardens of Babylon or a lot of the ancient sites from Mesopotamia.

  • Yeah, I would have loved to see them, but unfortunately very few still remain for me.

  • I would have loved to see Teotihuacan in basically modern day Mexico city before the arrival of the spanish or ancient Rome during the times of Julius season at E.

  • V.

    V.

  • To ask, what's the craziest food you've tried while traveling for me ballot the partially fermented duck embryo.

  • I was forced to eat that at a family festival in uh real loud for me, it's gotta be the double Icelandic combination of fermented shark and a baked lamb's face at a bead in fais.

  • I don't know if I pronounced that right asks what was the worst moment slash situation you two had during your travels.

  • Uh when we went to India last fall to shoot the virtual reality series, we hired a fixer.

  • He ended up being not a great fixer.

  • And after a few days of really uncomfortable conversations, we ended up having to fire the guy.

  • Uh, and that was quite the sight as we get into more advanced types of productions, specifically virtual reality filmmaking, that we require tons of permits and permissions to film in places up front.

  • And then the guy that we hired to do that showed up and he had nothing reserved.

  • We kept getting rejected from places we were supposed to have permission to film.

  • It was very frustrating situation and we had to basically fire him and improvised on the spot.

  • So everything worked out though.

  • And it was still one of the best trips we've ever done, right.

  • Yeah.

  • So although we didn't get to film in a lot of places, we really wanted to, we still made it work.

  • We had some alternatives and we got it done so funny, like what you saw in the India series was really like the backup plan plan B and it worked out really well.

  • So at Travel Explorer double 01 asks, do you think that traveling while vlogging is a good idea or should you just focus on being in the moment?

  • I would have to say, you know, there's been this explosion of people trying to vlog sharing, creating new accounts.

  • And if that's something that you really are passionate about and you want to give 100 and 50% for the next like five years of your life, then by all means go for it.

  • But if it's something that you're just trying out.

  • If it's something that you aren't 100% committed to, then I would just say and just enjoy the moment.

  • Yeah.

  • And I think that's a really good happy medium is just to do some instagram stories.

  • I mean you can do a lot with that medium.

  • It's a great way to share your experiences very immediately.

  • Doesn't take up a lot of time at Paula Novak asks, what was the most eye opening or humbling experience you've had with a local on your travels?

  • Okay, so before vega brothers, I did a solo backpacking trip in Vietnam and Southeast Asia and part of that trip I tried to ride a motorcycle all the way across Vietnam.

  • Long story short, it broke down, I was stuck in the middle of nowhere and I was taken in by some locals, part of whom were ex soldiers in the North Vietnamese army and there was a really interesting moment where we're all drinking having a good time and I actually made like a symbolic piece with one of the soldiers who had held up all these emotions from the war between Vietnam and the United States of America is a very poignant moment.

  • Just kinda goes to show how a one on one.

  • Human interaction can do a lot more than global leaders can in terms of making peace between nations?

  • Okay, luke babbitt asks, do you guys argue on the road and how do you get past it in order to keep traveling?

  • Okay.

  • The short answer is yes.

  • We argue all the time.

  • Yeah, we are.

  • We argue pretty much about like everything.

  • Um but it's usually not like an angry argument, it's more just disagreements about how to do things best and in what order.

  • So if Mark says we should go right, I say we should go left, we go right and then we realize that we should go left.

  • But um what we like to do now and what we've learned, what we've learned to do after five years of doing this is to give each other space when you're heated up, let yourselves cool off, give each other space and then everything is almost always fixed by a good meal with a glass of wine, just not too many glasses of wine or you find yourself right back in another argument at Molina says if you're going to travel the world for a year where you start, alright, we didn't know if you meant first destination or first step, but if you mean first step, there's a whole playlist we've done about how to travel around the world and specifically, there's a video about how much it costs to travel around the world for a full year.

  • So watch that video first.

  • There's a link in the bio as well as up here in the cards and that's a good place to start.

  • Okay.

  • B how 75 asked what's your favorite place to travel in the United States for me, probably new Orleans Louisiana.

  • I'd have to say road tripping around the western United States.

  • I just love how open and rugged and wild it is.

  • So yeah, I just, I love me some mountains and let me the rockies and the sierra Nevada's at some critical panning.

  • Rocky asks why is marco still single?

  • First off, am I you guys don't know, I keep my life fairly private.

  • But the truth is, I am, I'm still single and I think the reason why is because, well, first of all, I just haven't felt that I've been in a position where I'm able to fully commit to somebody because we have been so busy with travel and with work.

  • What I've done in this year is to focus on being more time here in Los Angeles and focusing a lot on my self development, personal development and self love, which I think is really the first step in making yourself available for relationships.

  • I think that this this lifestyle can be very difficult to find an easy match, especially if someone else doesn't have the flexibility that my life has and therefore won't be able to enjoy a lot of the opportunities that my life provides, but I think that I'm in a good position right now and I'm definitely open to being in a committed relationship.

  • I kind of feel like this deserves a video topic of its entire self.

  • so on my personal channel.

  • So stay tuned for that.

  • Meantime, I'll let you guys know when the situation changes.

  • At Luciana af tv asks, do you like football slash soccer and will you watch the World Cup?

  • The answer is as americans, we grew up playing soccer and then we became pretty much totally uninvolved with football or soccer and then we moved to Spain and kind of got into it then.

  • So America didn't qualify for the World Cup, but Spain did.

  • So we got our fingers crossed, viva espana Dalloway and yeah, I don't see a way in Spain theo Okay, yeah.

  • Spain okay at santa panda, what would you be doing if you were not doing youtube.

  • This is a question a lot of people asked us and it's a really good one.

  • Yeah, I think, you know, since I was in my teens, I always wanted to be a travel tv host, mike buddy, Carlos and I would go and film parties on the weekend and I would kind of act as the impromptu host.

  • So I feel like regardless, I would still be making films and still be working in media and probably be hosting something else.

  • If I were not doing value brothers, I think I would be doing freelance journalism for sure.

  • Either as a writer or as a host.

  • I really liked what Vice was doing at the time.

  • We were starting vega brothers.

  • I could easily see myself doing that and there's still part of me that really wants to get into journalism.

  • So you never know where the future will lead.

  • But right now I'm very happy doing what we're doing.

  • Okay.

  • Jasmine Subito asked us, what's the number one hidden spot that you've come across?

  • That's really challenging.

  • But I think some of the waterfalls, waves and beaches in southern Costa rica are pretty amazing and they're not totally blown up yet.

  • So And I have a secret camping spot in big sur that I return to frequently at Asap 17 asks how do you guys balance filming and simply enjoying the place that you're traveling to?

  • I think part of it is knowing when to be in the moment and when to focus on capturing the moment.

  • Um a lot of that's just mindfulness.

  • Just really being present and then understanding, oh this is something cool.

  • I should film it rather than walking around the camera and just pointing at everything all the time.

  • Also just being super efficient with your time, understanding how much of it you have, how long it's gonna take you to get to places that you are trying to film and just being diligent about like getting there, capturing what you need, not over shooting and then enjoying the moment.

  • Don't just get somewhere film it and then realize that you have no time left and you have to leave.

  • That sucks.

  • So be you know be mindful and be diligent with your time.

  • Also really easy.

  • Hat is just to set up a time lapse and when the time is going, you can just like be in the moment, look around and we often do this at sunset with a beer.

  • We'll just lasting the day set the camera, get a time lapse, drink a beer, enjoy the moment.

  • Okay.

  • It's Mrs Brain asked you guys follow a code of ethics or any rules to be a good tourist or traveler when you're traveling.

  • I think that the golden rule is a good place to start basically.

  • Do you want to, others as you would want them to do unto you and it's just using common sense, imagine that you were at home.

  • What would you not want to see a tourist doing in your hometown.

  • Whatever those things are just try to be a good person, try to be respectful, try to be nice and I guarantee you that that will be reciprocated at NJ sean asks, have you guys ever thought about doing van life and or daily vlogging with Van life definitely.

Vlogging?

  • We're working on that right now and hopefully later this year we'll be exploring around the Western United States Daily vlogging, No, I think that we really do value our personal lives and our private time off camera.

  • So it's really just not an option for us right now and it's something that we are interested in doing at all daily stories on instagram happen already.

  • So if you want more insight into our lives on a day to day basis, just follow us on vega brothers and our personal accounts on instagram.

  • Okay, Megan anya asked what is your advice for first time travelers specifically staying safe etcetera?

  • I would say it's pretty simple, just keep your wits about you, keep your belongings near you, you don't need to obsess over them, but just use common sense.

  • It's not like you're going somewhere where you're gonna be instantly, you know, abducted or um treated poorly.

  • I think that a lot of the reservations that people have about solo travel are mental, they're kind of like cultural preconceptions that people have but do it and you will see how liberating solo travel really is.

  • We're two guys.

  • So obviously for us the world's a lot safer than it is for a lot of women who are traveling by themselves if you are a woman, I mean you obviously do need to take certain precautions, you don't want to be putting yourself in extremely vulnerable situations.

  • However, I would say in general, the world is a lot safer than its portrayed on the media and travel, especially solo travel is really an exercise in being able to read personalities, being able to be situationally aware and so the more that you can focus on situational awareness and reading body language and trying to be very perceptive of other people's energies, I know that that sounds like a very hippy dippy word thrown around about like what's this person's energy, but it's very, very true.

  • If you can become more attuned to those frequencies, you will find yourself able to follow your intuition into good situations and out of bad ones.

  • Also just try to find friends at hostels, chances are you're gonna meet other solo travelers people that you connect with and who are down to explore with you.

  • So that's kind of the beauty of solo travel is that you open yourself up to more connections with different people and you have a richer experience at birdie bob fleeman, ask what's the worst thing you've seen tourists do at an attraction or a monument.

  • Generally speaking, people being drunk and disrespectful of their host cities is extremely common.

  • It doesn't have to be having a landmark for it to be disrespectful.

  • For example, the cities of Barcelona and Prague have a problem with a lot of people coming visiting, getting totally drunk, especially for bachelor parties and stag parties and just disrespecting local, staying up late, making noises, singing wonderwall at two or three in the morning.

  • This is bad behavior, It's very, very, very widespread, every country does it and it's something we should all make sure that we don't do ourselves or we can stop other people doing it when we see it happening, but I think there's a more pervasive problem, youtubers influencers in general setting poor examples for all of you out there by breaking rules publicly disregarding cultural nuances etcetera and basically just being bad role models.

  • So don't break the rules in pursuit of that selfie or more likes on youtube.

  • Okay.

  • Tristan millionaire 19 asked us what's our best picks for urban travel backpacks.

  • We have made two videos specifically about best travel backpacks, one for travel in general and the other one about camera bags.

  • So just head back over to the channel search bag of brothers camera backpack or travel backpack.

  • And you will have an in depth video on exactly that subject at capture anthropology asks the telltale all this question you can ask a traveler, how many countries have you been to?

  • So we had to stop and count the number of countries because we've lost track but it's 48 countries together.

  • Um and then each of us has traveled to a couple different countries which brings me to 58 and Alex to 56 but you have a two year head start whatever at J.

  • B.

    B.

  • T.

  • Asks how do you stay in shape while traveling and eating?

  • Very common question.

  • Okay.

  • Life of ski asked what are some underrated or non touristy cities in europe.

    Life of ski

  • I would have to say I lived in Galicia for a year and I fell in love with that place.

  • There's so many great towns there, but Santiago de compostela in Galicia is a beautiful, beautiful place and even though it's a little bit touristy with the community Santiago, it's still well worth a visit, but it's the rainiest city in Spain.

  • So bring an umbrella and a rain jacket for me, I would say like in Puglia, it's an incredible city.

  • I mean it's very, very different than the rest of Italy Puglia in general is influenced a lot by the Greeks.

  • It was a Hellenic like colony back in the day and the city of Lecce is just incredibly beautiful.

  • So that would be my pick and last but not least at chad Bruce asked where does marco get all of his sick hats from?

  • Very common question.

  • The most common hat that I wear is this red one.

  • This is from the Gorn brothers, it's great.

  • It costs about 100 bucks.

  • It's very well made hat though and every time I get it gets to bring it in and they spruce it up for free.

  • And then I also have a lot of hats from lack of color which is an Australian company.

  • This is like the big Daddy, but I rock this one a lot and I have some other ones coming in from lack of color soon.

  • So Gorn Brothers lack of color and the village hat shop dot com.

  • Alright, ladies and gentlemen there, you have it quick Q and a, we haven't done one of those in a long time.

  • I think we should make those a little bit more frequently.
