In southern Philippines, I introduce you to Dr. Deo.

在菲律賓的南部，容我向你介紹我向你介紹 Deo 博士。

I am Deo Florence Onda. I'm one of the first humans and the first Filipino to actually descend the third deepest place on earth.

我是 Deo Florence Onda，我也是第一個真正下探到地球上第三深的地方的菲律賓人。

Dr. Deo is a marine scientist who explores the deepest parts of the ocean, the parts that are 10,000 Below where no one has ever been.

Deo 博士是一名海洋科學家，他探索海洋最深的地方，也就是沒有人去過的一萬英尺以下的地方。

There had been more people who have been to the moon and to the outer space than people who were able to cross the 10,000 meters below sea level.

到過月球和外太空的人比能夠到海平面一萬英尺以下的人要多。

This is no easy trip because in the ocean, the deeper you go the more pressure builds up on your submarine.

這不是簡單的旅程，因為在海洋中，你下探得越深，潛艇的壓力就越大。

But once Dr. Deo got to the bottom of the trench, what he found was shocking,

because there was a lot of plastic and that's not all.

Shorts, teddy bears, bottles. The more they looked, the more garbage he found.

And that's what scientists call the seventh continent.

There's a lot of stuff on the seafloor.

That's garbage down there. I'm pretty sure.

I thought it was a reflection, but yeah, I am seeing it.

It was very saddening to actually see plastics down there.

在海底看到塑膠其實是非常難過的。

Imagine a place that has never been visited by any humans before and the first thing that we saw were actually imprints of human contamination.

想象一下，一個從未被任何人類造訪過的地方，而我們看到的第一件東西居然是人類汙染的印記。

This is the same plastic we throw in the ocean. It doesn't magically disappear.

這跟我們扔進海裡的塑膠是一樣的，它不會神奇地消失。

It stays in the ocean and reaches places even humans have not reached.

它會停留在海洋中，到達連人類都沒有去過的各地。

This is why plastic pollution is dangerous.

這就是為什麼塑膠很危險。

Plastics are made up of different poisonous or toxic chemicals.

塑膠由不同的有毒或毒性化學物質組成的。

When released, this can affect actually the physiology of the different animals, which then affect their living conditions and then could result into mortality or death.

丟棄時，塑膠會影響不同動物的生理結構，然後影響它們的生活條件，然後可能導致死亡。

And this negative effects can actually cascade to the trophic system.

而這種負面效應可能會連帶影響到營養系統。

Whatever is happening in the smallest organism affected by plastic, all of us, humans will also be affected.

And instead of losing hope, Dr. Deo saw an opportunity to educate.

但 Deo 博士沒有失去希望，而是看到了一個教育的機會。

So he took pictures of this plastic continent and started sharing them with the world.

For many people, plastics problem is still an abstract.

對於許多人來說，塑膠問題仍然是一個抽象的概念。

They haven't really connected it with their everyday lives and my responsibility is to understand this plastic pollution.

The plastic pollution is real and it's serious.

Cleaning up plastic stuck in the bottom of the ocean is still impossible.
