Ugh!
Oh!
[PANTING]
Sweet mother of monkey milk!
Whoa!
Kid, I don't think we're in Litwak's anymore.
We most certainly are not, friendo.
We are in the internet!
Come on, Ralph!
[MUSIC PLAYING]
What's up, everyone?
This is "Disney+ Deets," where we break down everything
you need to know about your favorite Disney+
movies and series.
I'm Kenneth.
And I'm Marcellus.
And not toot our own horns, but we're pretty much the biggest
Disney+ fans out there.
No! Let's do it!
Toot, toot!
Beep, beep!
That's right!
Let's get into it.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): You ready to go
viral on BuzzzTube, Marcellus?
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): The only way to answer that question
is "yes" with three S's.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Today, we're breaking down
one of the most high-tech, exciting films out there,
"Ralph Breaks the Internet."
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Grab your best friend,
and let's get this party started.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): "Ralph Breaks the Internet"
is the follow-up to 2012's "Wreck-It Ralph."
This was Walt Disney Animation Studios'
first feature-length theatrical sequel
created by the original movie's writing and directing team.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Yes, the dream team is back again.
Head of Story Josie Trinidad noted it was important
that the second movie show the friendship between Ralph
and Vanellope grow in new ways.
Director Rich Moore said Ralph and Vanellope
are like a couple of small-town kids
who venture into the big city.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Exactly.
Vanellope loves it and wants to stay,
but Ralph wants to go home ASAP.
He can't believe his best friend isn't on the same page as him.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Hmm, sounds very familiar.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Nuh-huh, don't
know what you're talking about.
This is a story about the ups and downs
that come with relationships and how even the strongest
friendships can be tested.
We can all relate to having a different point of view
from a friend-- like how you think we have to ride
with the AC on all the time.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): And how you insist on having
the windows rolled down.
It's hot air, Ken!
It's hot air!
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): But you make a fair point.
[LAUGHS]
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): John C. Reilly
returns to voice Ralph, the iconic character he brought
to life in the first movie.
Most actors in animation record their lines solo.
But producer Clark Spencer said Reilly likes to be
able to riff with his co-stars.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Which is why Reilly did not one, not
two, but all of his recordings with the hilarious Sarah
Silverman, who voices Vanellope.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): These two characters
have incredible chemistry.
And when recording some of the movie's most emotional scenes,
writer and director Phil Johnston
said both stars were in tears.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Aww!
Just like when you found out you can't
really play "Slaughter Race."
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): You said you wouldn't bring that up.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): [LAUGHS] We can't talk about "Slaughter
Race" without mentioning one of my favorite characters,
the queen herself, Shank, voiced by Gal Gadot.
Whoof!
Let's go drive.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Johnston said
they wanted a big sister figure for Vanellope,
someone she could look up to.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Well, Gadot definitely fits the bill.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Let's talk about the car.
This is the whole reason that they go into the game.
They're trying to get the car so that they can get money
to fix Vanellope's game because the steering wheel broke
on her game in the real world.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): And can I tell you?
You drive just like Vanellope.
[LAUGHS]
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): OK, If we're
talking about our favorite characters,
we have to talk about Yesss, voiced by the talented Taraji
P. Henson.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): All hail Miss Taraji P. Henson.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): And she did it beautifully.
She brought a self-assured dynamic to the character,
and producer Clark Spencer thought
Henson was the perfect choice.
I need you out there popping up and getting
clicks all over the internet.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): We talked about the stars, now let's
talk about the guest stars.
What is the one scene everybody knows
from this movie, Marcellus?
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): The Princess avatar meet-up.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): That's right!
How could anybody forget the very first movie
to bring all Disney's Princesses together with almost
all the original voice actors?
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): But the best part about it
is you're getting to see everything about them,
and they are just like you'd think they would be.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Exactly! MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): [LAUGHS]
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Let's see if I can name them all.
Hold on, let me take a deep breath.
Irene Bedard as Pocahontas, Kristen Bell as Anna,
Jodi Benson as Ariel, Auli'i Cravalho as Moana,
Linda Larkin as Jasmine, Kelly Macdonald as Merida,
Idina Menzel as Elsa, Mandy Moore as Rapunzel,
Paige O'Hara as Belle, Anika Noni Rose as Tiana,
and Ming-Na Wen as Mulan!
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Whoa, don't pass out.
You OK, kid?
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): (BREATHLESS) I'm good.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): To help put the Princesses
on the screen, the team turned to animation superstar
Mark Henn for his expertise.
Oh, can we get to go to Oh, My Disney?
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Hey!
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Look at how vast and dense the internet
is.
It's such a creative choice to visualize it as a city.
Now let's race over to the world of the internet.
Disney animation artists looked at cities like Manhattan,
Shanghai, and Dubai to inspire the internet's
towering skyscrapers, with each building
representing a website.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Probably the single hardest
part of the movie to animate-- this racing scene.
The layout team placed 100 cameras inside the virtual set
and shot the chase from every angle.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): It was amazing.
But you know, they didn't want it to look too good.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Right.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): According to animation supervisor Robert
Huth, if "Slaughter Race" looked too realistic,
it wouldn't look like a game at all.
So the team went back to classic racing games of the early 2000s
for inspiration.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): I was on the edge of my seat
watching this race.
Not only did the animation team build skyscrapers,
car chases, and an entire original video game, the giant
Ralph that literally breaks the internet was
made of 300,000 little Ralphs!
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): That is so cool.
This is one of my favorite parts because I love that he gets
to see kind of like a reflection of how
he's been acting in a way.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Oh, we going deep.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): And he has to fight against it.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Yes, sir.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): He has to not
be that because he wants to not have
that be a reflection of him.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): [CHUCKLES] Yes.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Man, this movie was deep.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): It really was.
Friendship sometimes has to be tested in order
to learn if what you have is true.
Ralph's just shocked.
He's shocked because him and Vanellope
are not on the same page.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Yeah.
And now they're realizing, like, wait,
maybe we have a difference of opinion in what we should do.
But you know what?
That's OK!
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): This film highlights
that we can have differences and still be great friends.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Friendships aren't always
perfect, but it's about persevering
and accepting differences.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): That's our show for today.
Be sure to like, subscribe, and check
out "Ralph Breaks the Internet" now streaming on Disney+.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Take care of yourselves and the planet,
and we'll see you next time.
Marcellus and Ken, signing off.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): Wait!
We can't sign off yet!
We didn't film our viral video for BuzzTube.
Come back here and shout into this leaf blower.
MARCELLUS (VOICEOVER): Ken, you can go viral on your own.
KENNETH (VOICEOVER): OK.
You're gonna to be jealous.
