00:05 ALINA: I look like a doll. I like big eyes,
little nose, small plump lips, I love long hair, my hair is a metre long.
00:16 COMM: Alina Kovalevskaya is walking, talking,
living doll. The 21-year-old hails from Odessa, Ukraine, a city home to a number of other
real-life Barbies, including Valeria Lukyanov, who has made headlines around the world for
her unique look and controversial opinions.
00:36 COMM: Alina has made a splash online with
her YouTube videos showing off her doll-like charms - which she claims to have achieved
without the help of plastic surgery. And despite living by the beach, she shuns the sun in
order to retain her milky-white complexion.
00:51 ALINA: During the day I do not really like
to be there as I do not sunbathe, I don't like to tan.
01:08 COMM: Alina studies psychology and social
work at Odessa University. She first adopted the doll look around 18 months ago.
01:16 ALINA: A year and half ago I saw some pictures
of ball-jointed dolls. I really liked the image of these dolls. I decided to try it
for myself and bought big eye contact lenses. When I put them of my friends told me "Oh
my God, you look like a doll, you really do!"
01:30 COMM: Alina's doll-like style led to a brief
friendship with Valeria Lukyanov, but their relationship has since soured.
01:37 ALINA: I have had certain misunderstandings
with her after which we ceased to communicate. I realised that she is not person with whom
I would like to talk or even be friends.
01:52 COMM: Today Alina is heading into her hometown
of Odessa, and it's not long before she begins to attract attention.
01:59 WOMAN: Everyone is dressed in casual style,
but she looks like a princess. She's a beautiful girl, a very unusual person who stands out
from the crowd.
02:09 COMM: However not all of Odessa's residents
are quite so keen on her doll look.
02:13 MAN: If she wants to look like that I don't
mind, it's her choice. My personal belief is that a girl should be more natural.
02:23 COMM: While her style sometimes attracts negative
comments, Alina choses not to take such remarks to heart.
02:29 ALINA: People in our city react to my look
differently. Both positive and negative responses. As the saying goes: many men, many minds.
Honestly I do not get hurt by this, because I understand that one can't satisfy everybody.
02:52 COMM: Alina has 22,000 followers on Russian
social network VK, and is frequently bombarded with autograph requests, declarations of love
-- and even marriage proposals.
03:04 COMM: But despite being inundated with offers,
the porcelain-faced beauty is still looking for love.
03:11 ALINA: Currently I do not have a boyfriend.
I'm single. First and foremost I appreciate cleverness in men. For me it is most important
that my boyfriend is intelligent, charismatic, purposeful and kind.
03:33 ALINA: In the future I wish I could have my
own house surrounded by nature, for example in a deep forest or in mountains.
