This was an adventure... yes, of outstanding importance. And I'll never forget that, for sure. The same way my character is learning, I have learned a lot of things... to give and to receive. The school of fine art where we are, is an allusion to one of BTWC heros. Even before its theatrical release, the AK movie was so much talked about... : Cannes Golden Palm, harsh words between the director and both actresses. But finally, a film which let you flabbergasted, guts wrenched. Meeting with the two actresses who wear that story: LS and AE. It was told you in Cannes, and we have read a lot about how long and difficult the shooting was. So, what's this Kéchiche Method? It's difficult... you can't sum up easily in few words, but he is somebody,..., he needs time. ...who...so...even before pre-production, you take a lot of time talking with him about a lot of things, not only about the movie. ...there is a lot of training...physical one, usually. He asked us, both, to make sport because he likes bodies like this...... some presence, toned bodies. ...Then..., I had to take painting lessons, I had to... he gave me a lot of books to read, movies to see. And then on set, he can take an enormous amount of time to shoot a scene. And sometimes...It occurred, it took him may be one week to shoot one scene. He, he, so, he does a take, he redoes it... Throughout the shooting, he can come back and redo it when there are new ideas. That's it. So its... its... So its Method is that way. It's a terrific way of working, but it's not at all: you have to come in the morning at this time..... There will be this close-up on you. We'll do 4 takes. Technique is crucial. No there is no make-up, no hairdressing, ..., he wants you to take off the masks... He wants to go, he wants to capture something like... just sort of a moment of grace... something spiritual, a piece of your soul, so obviously it is quite intense! Did you want to stop sometimes or to say no, I can't stand this pace any more... or it was... You were knowing what you were getting into. You never know what you are getting into. Especially with Abdel! Yeah. But really, it is... it is..., it was like a passion. There were highest highs and lowest lows and sometimes I was telling myself, maybe we have to stop it, I just can't stand this any more... And I'm going to fuck up it all, I'm going to disappoint him, and at the same time, the day after... We so wanted to...to... to succeed. Such a film, you can't make it ONLY with joy and ONLY with pleasure. It's an intense movie, an intense story, an intense matter. The resulting film, when you have discovered it in Cannes... What were your first feelings? First it's a film that lasts with you, that's something I like in this movie. That's not a movie, when you're going out, it's like wow lol, wow cool. It's a movie lasting with you, the day after you can work on it and everybody can connect with someone from it. I do, and it's hard to have a distance, to be objective when you were fully committed body and soul for five months... then I thought that Abdel has done all the right things for the film, to make it lighter... focusing on the passion instead of focusing on... all the consequences occurring about your life. and I loved poetry he puts in it, transmission, and then... you have to process it! Have you both processed it or are you still inside? Yeah! But it's true that, when I'll see it again, there will be something new for sure, it's different... and when you are yourself naked for 6mn, it's not the same for the other people beside you... telling they are uncomfortable, but but but, she is not the one on the screen, so it's totally different, involving..., it's intimate. even if you can make nudity a disguise, here, you can see yourself in a lot of different positions, so it is not necessarily comfortable. and it's not shot... for us... We as young women having our hangs-up. it's it's not easy to look at yourself, like this, for 6mn it's not like there is a super glamorous light and you can see us from rear, arching our back for just 2mn. Here you are talking about that sex scene which is one of the more powerful one in the movie with both of you... The shot is very beautiful still very raw... Do you were expecting such a result on the screen and how was it shot? We... we were knowing what we had shot! So yes, for sure, when you are shooting, when they are shooting you, yes we... you are not fully aware of the result, hopefully in fact, because if you were, you could not play it! So it's true that when you are seeing it on screen, you can't keep from... ...yes...from being touched, excessively. But however... however, it was, well, it was, so..., Abdel wanted to shoot... love in this way. And so it was take-it-or-leave-it. It was Abdel's choice to shoot this scene like the other ones. and...I think for him it's like an experience that the spectator has to go through in order to understand all the process. BTWC is a love story but it's also a coming-of-age story... Do you have grown up while shooting, do you feel that... well it's... I, ..., I,...well, , I, yes it made me progress finally. Yeah, you're more mature, I think . Even if it's done in an unspeakable way. That's it. When people ask me what playing Adèle brought me, what the film gave me. it's touching a so a so personal area... but I couldn't say that... there are things you can't explain to yourself but you can feel it's there. I don't know. It's special. Thanks a lot. You're welcome...
