  • we are slaves to our own minds.

  • We let it control ourselves where we just don't even know who we are anymore.

  • All of the toxic limiting beliefs that we grew up with and that were influenced by just get clogged up in our minds.

  • And we don't realize that we just need to clean it out every once in a while.

  • And most people don't because we don't know how.

  • The more information that goes through us that comes to us, the more stuck our minds become, and that results in overthinking and storytelling.

  • There are hundreds of ways to get over overthinking and to stop being negative, whatever you want to call it.

  • But the past two years of my life, I've learned a lot of different strategies and methods that were created by the Japanese or Zen systems that made me the person that I am today.

  • There are hundreds of talked about ways to stop negative thinking to stop overthinking, but the problem with that is that we shouldn't stop.

  • You cannot stop your thoughts.

  • It's impossible.

  • It's absolutely impossible.

  • So we find ourselves trying to repress our emotions.

  • We find ourselves trying to stop the voices in our heads when we should be inviting them in here.

  • Me out.

  • So for the past two years, I've been learning different ways to master my mind, and so far the only thing that has worked for me is a combination of Western style and Japanese style mindset, methods and psychology.

  • And it helped me 10 folds throughout the past couple of years, and I wanted to discuss that today with you for an alternative way to master yourself and master your mind in your everyday life.

  • Your mind is the only thing that holds you back and limits you in life.

  • It's the only thing.

  • Nothing else.

  • People seek to stop overthinking, to stop thinking, even in meditation.

  • People want to stop thinking.

  • But the more we stop thinking, the more it comes up.

  • Let's do a little exercise.

  • Don't think about a yellow cramp for some of you.

  • A yellow crown popped in your head, and the more you stop thinking about a yellow gran, the more it comes up in your life.

  • The more you start thinking about yellow throughout your day because your subconscious mind remembers that someone told you not to think about a yellow crown because you're repressing that you're stop.

  • You're trying to stop doing something that comes natural in us humans.

  • Those things will always come up in your life, including myself.

  • I overthink still, I think negatively.

  • Still.

  • I have cultivated more awareness and gratitude in my life to the point where it doesn't affect me as much as it did before.

  • I've identified it as not being a bad thing because a lot of the times we think it's bad.

  • We think our thoughts are bad when in reality it's part of who we are.

  • It's our humanness coming out.

  • It's our fears.

  • Our fears try to protect us in everyday life.

  • They serve us in a way, so they're not bad.

  • But you just have to know when it's happening and how you react towards your thoughts and how you treat yourself and how you manage it.

  • And that is the key to success and mastery of the mind.

  • This is a whole nother video, but I want to remind you that we have two minds.

  • We have the observing mind and we have the thinking mind and the observing mind is kind of like the mother to our inner child.

  • Our thinking mind is pretty much our inner child coming out, running rampant, so many different thoughts going through our heads, making up stories, lying to us.

  • It's that little toddler in our head that just can't stop.

  • You don't realize that our minds are separate, so we can't differentiate the two.

  • And that's what makes it difficult for us to react in a way that serves us.

  • What we really need to do is change our perspective on ourselves.

  • We need to be kind to ourselves.

  • We need to realize that these are normal things we need to normalize thinking.

  • Once we accomplish that, you can begin the new habit of resilience.

  • When these things continuously come up, we know how to react.

  • We know what action to take will know not to feed into the stories that our mind tells us.

  • So what exactly does it take to quit overthinking?

  • And I promise you, you're doing it wrong.

  • Oftentimes, overthinking actually comes from questioning our life path.

  • So we create a lot of what ifs and judgments and assumptions on other people and on ourselves, and the fact is, a lot of it isn't true.

  • More than people have allied to us.

  • We've been lying to ourselves, Mind blowing.

  • I know.

  • What if I don't get that job?

  • What if I lose my job?

  • Because I didn't.

  • I feel like I did very well today.

  • What if he leaves me?

  • What if I'm doing it all wrong?

  • What if this isn't the right decision?

  • What if this isn't what I'm supposed to be doing in my life?

  • We tell ourselves stories in a dialogue that makes it seem like it's true.

  • Our language is so powerful and our subconscious mind is picking up on the truth that we're telling ourselves she hates me.

  • He didn't email me or text me back.

  • He must hate me.

  • I suck at my job.

  • We are so in the habit of thinking this way because we grew up hearing people speak to themselves this way.

  • We don't know how to turn the what ifs to the what is.

  • We don't know how to turn the untrue stories into true stories.

  • And again, we can't stop these thoughts.

  • We can't stop thinking them, but we can react towards them in a way that serves us.

  • We can lessen the chances of it consuming us.

  • We can adopt awareness of our thoughts to bring us back to center and in the present moment, because all we're doing is time hopping.

  • We're just time hopping all the time, going to the past, going to the future, and we keep passing up the present.

  • And we're not looking at the lessons and the actions that we can take now to get from point A to point B.

  • We're always going back and forth in between these time loops, and we're not sitting with ourselves in the present moment and Japanese Zen practice.

  • It's always important to keep a don't know mind if you're worried about what other people think of you, or if you're worried about the future, ask yourself, Does any of this rain true?

  • Do I know this as a fact?

  • Do I truly know the outcome of my future?

  • No.

  • Do I know that that person actually hates me or cares?

  • No.

  • And if they do, does it keep me from moving forward in my life?

  • No, because you can always take action.

  • You can always change your reality.

  • Your truth is your reality, and you can change it whenever you want.

  • So the lesson here is, even though we can't control what pops into our minds, we can control how we react to them.

  • We can learn to question their validity.

  • A practice to move from fear, which is the real culprit of overthinking to a place of calm, is to ground ourselves in the present moment, when you're constantly and consistently caught up in a loop of fearful thoughts, simply say the words drop it.

  • Become that parent to your inner child because what's happening is your inner child is scared.

  • Your inner child is shaking.

  • You need to be the person to calm down that inner child.

  • Imagine, grab the small you by the shoulders and say, Drop it in the most firm and calm way possible.

  • Look yourself in the eyes and then direct your attention to a current sensory input.

  • This is called an anchor, and it's a habit to bring yourself back to center.

  • It could be a sight sound.

  • Smell a touch, say drop it.

  • Sit down on your chair field chair.

  • Notice the chair.

  • Snap bracelets nicely.

  • Don't hurt yourself.

  • Snap a bracelet.

  • Bring yourself back.

  • Feel that snapping sensation, something that's going to bring you back to yourself so you can adequately assess the situation.

  • A lot of the times, the things that I over thought in my past never came true.

  • All of the fears that I had never came true.

  • I was always over thinking I was always feeling like I have to do this.

  • I have to do that because I was taught that way.

  • But now I'm embracing the concept of uncertainty.

  • And as you begin to embrace uncertainty, especially when it comes to your future or relationship, then you start to open up more opportunities.

  • You start to get excited about new things that will come into your life.

  • You make more room for new things that come into your into your life, and the more you embrace uncertainty, the more success you can have in your life, The more happiness you can have in your life, even though there are going to be negative things that happen to you in your lifetime.

  • Most of them are lessons that you can learn from, and there are more good things that actually you'll find that there are more good things that come into your life that are positive.

  • First, negative.

  • You have a choice to allow everything in your life into your life, including family, including friends, including the words that you hear and the things that people say.

  • You have a choice to accept those things into your life.

  • You have a choice and there are no wrong choices because people think that if they go down the wrong path, they're going to run themselves into the ground.

  • And that may be true.

  • But that doesn't mean that it's the end of the road.

  • No step is the wrong step.

  • Every step that you take is important in your life.

  • It's a lesson learned.

  • It's something new that you can understand about yourself.

  • In my life.

  • I took so many wrong paths and I needed to take those paths to discover what I loved and what I didn't like and what I did want and what I didn't want in a relationship in my career and my life in general, for myself, for my happiness.

  • I needed to go down those wrong paths in order to understand myself and where I was going.

  • So there is no wrong stuff.

  • There is no wrong path and you need to remember that when you start to overthink, especially when if you're the type of person that start to over, think about your future.

  • Which is why the geeky guy, life purpose lifestyle that I created my eight week course there is no wrong way to do it.

  • There is no right or wrong way to accomplish anything in this lifestyle.

  • Every path and every step you take is so important.

  • And there's a lot of things that you're not going to know about yourself.

  • And there's a lot of things that you are going to know about yourself.

  • It's all about the journey in your life, the future and the past is not us.

  • In this very moment, that's not who we are.

  • We are safe in this moment now.

  • And when we direct our attention to the present moment, fear is simply not there because fear resides in the stories that we tell ourselves about the future.

  • One tip I have for you if you don't know where to start with this, stop looking at The end result.

  • The outcome the ideal.

  • You focus on the you right now and what's step 1% step you can take to become that person that has a master mastery over his or her mind.

  • So what you can do is learn more about yourself.

  • Ask yourself questions.

  • We don't ask yourself enough questions.

  • Therefore, we feel uncomfortable doing it.

  • But we have to get into the habit if we want to figure out what we want and what we don't want.

  • And one thing that I highly recommend is to journal.

  • And in your journal you can ask yourself, Why do you think this way?

  • Why do you feel this is true?

  • Call yourself out on it.

  • Call out the BS, set a timer for 15 minutes and just go to town.

  • Don't worry about spelling mistakes.

  • Don't worry about sentence structure.

  • Don't worry if it even makes sense.

  • Start to say yes to the things that you want in your life.

  • Literally like even if it's a small little dog or something, point to it and say yes, point to a butterfly.

  • Yes, just point at things and say Yes, you may look a little crazy, but realize that you have the power to say yes to things in your life.
