  • this is okay guys get in, I'm a dude get in, this is a good thumbnail right here.

  • Uh huh.

  • Hey guys, throughout Tabaco right now in Topeka is a company that allows you to share experiences with locals in Japan, which is pretty cool.

  • So it's not, it's like unlike other, you know, regular tours that you would go on, it's something more personal.

  • And a lot of people did uh like the day in the life of a monk or the farm, the organic farming, which is pretty cool.

  • So I saw those videos and I really wanted to try the no theater one.

  • So today we're gonna learn about japanese traditional theater today.

  • So I'm really excited about that.

  • But right now I'm in how to do, so you can see, we're like in this alley way and how to do and they have like crepes here and crazy costumes and we're about to go inside and see what they are going to have us do and where we're gonna go from there.

  • So I'll see you guys there.

  • And today I'm with my friends, um Sam and Emma and they're from the channel Toki Doki Travel, I'm gonna, Emma's from the channel Toki Toki Traveler and SAm is from Sam in Tokyo.

  • So you guys should check them out.

  • Okay, so we're at the Topeka office right now and we are waiting to depart on our adventure.

  • We're just looking through the catalog right now and like making a list of all the things that we want to do in the future.

  • Rainbow Garden looks great.

  • I know.

  • So we're going to learn no theater and I know nothing, wow.

  • Is this cool.

  • This is a japanese traditional theater, wow.

  • Okay.

  • So we're gonna watch a video about what they do for no theater and how they dress up and everything.

  • And then we're gonna go experience it.

  • So it's pretty cool.

  • So far.

  • This is the mirror roll off the stage right ramp way here And after not only prepares his costumes but also his mind.

  • Mm hmm.

  • Why?

  • Okay, so we finished watching the video and now we're going to see the no stage.

  • So we're coming right there.

  • Oh my God, this is so cool.

  • Okay, country.

  • Oh my gosh.

  • I've always wanted to do this.

  • This is the no theater stage made entirely from unfinished hinoki or japanese Cyprus.

  • There are no major curtains and it contains only a single pine tree painted on the back panel.

  • On one side is a long walkway to the main stage, which symbolizes connecting worlds.

  • Yeah.

  • So we're about to see what they do during no performance, which is pretty cool.

  • This is like, it's so interesting.

  • What do you think about this insanely big.

  • Can't like the smell of it.

  • It smells like like wood.

  • It's like a good smell, really fragrant.

  • But it's like, I'm like christmas, trees, I don't know what it smells like history.

  • That's what it smells like.

  • Oh no, is a word derived from the sino, japanese word skill or talent.

  • It's the oldest major theatre arts still performed today.

  • It was performed in the beginning of the 14th century and usually entails stories from folklore and traditional literature.

  • Okay, masks are worn to stimulate the audience's imagination and intensify body language and movement.

  • Yeah, we're going to get into like the traditional socks and like walk around the stage, which is pretty awesome.

  • So I'm really excited about that.

  • Yeah, that's great.

  • But but usually like everyone is changing here.

  • So also the chorus and the people who play the instruments, Everyone is sitting here together.

  • And the reason is that everything is open, you can see like there is no uh partition, right?

  • And it's because when you come here or maybe like the like the main actor selection director.

  • Sure.

  • Then they can check if everyone is here so they sit here and then they focus on their character before they go on.

  • Yes, this is like a special thing for the main character is just so awesome.

  • My gosh, it's so exciting.

  • I'm living the dreams.

  • Yeah.

  • When opening the curtain to the stage, there's a special word that must be said in order for you to enter longer.

  • Yeah.

  • Mhm Yeah, this is amazing.

  • This is where the orchestra people come in, the orchestra is here, the chorus, it's over here.

  • Yeah, you get back okay, it's over here and this is where the actors are.

  • It was time to go through our first no training sequence.

  • We learned how to express emotions such as sadness and anger.

  • Yeah, then we put those emotions together with fluid movement, well as fluid as possible anyway.

  • Mhm No.

  • Yeah, well next we had a mask fitting, the masks are made of Cyprus and they say that wearing the mask keeps it moist and preserves the wood, it keeps it pierre, this is the new kelly, this is a okay guys, get in, I'm a dude get in.

  • This is a good thumbnail right here.

  • I'm scared that if I do facial expressions it'll slip.

  • Oh gosh, you look scared guys.

  • Selfie time.

  • Next we did the routine with the masks on and you could not see anything.

  • It was so challenging.

  • Yeah, you're very fast.

  • Like, I think, I think you're doing like bigger steps, masks can still express feelings by tilting them a certain way.

  • Yeah, yeah, look yeah, bigger.

  • Oh, Oh, okay.

  • Yeah, yeah.

  • Okay, so we finished our performance here at the no theater and it was really, really fun and I think this is probably one of the coolest experiences I've had in Japan actually, it's the number one coolest experience I've had in Japan because I really like theater and to get this once in a lifetime chance, like to do this has been my dream.

  • So I am so happy because I studied this in school and to see this like a private performance and experience, it was literally the best.
