  • Welcome to our global classroom. Today we're learning 12 Beautiful Words.

  • And before we go into the words, I would like to invite you to join our social media classes for more practice.

  • We're active on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat.

  • So today I'm going to give you 12 Beautiful Words that are synonyms for the word "Beautiful."

  • I have some words that are better for you than just to say "Beautiful."

  • These are very helpful when you're trying to express different nuances when you mean to express that something looks special or incredible.

  • So by the end of this lesson, you'll be able to express yourself better and have a wider vocabulary.

  • And kind of from now on use them instead of the word "beautiful."

  • So the first word I have for your today is the word Alluring.

  • And alluring is something that's mysteriously attractive or that's fascinating.

  • So, when I say that something is alluring I'm kind of drawn to it.

  • So kind of attracted and I want to kind of get to it.

  • That's an alluring dessert.

  • The second word I have for you today is Exquisite.

  • And exquisite is something that is very special.

  • Of special beauty and rare.

  • So when you want to say that something is very rare or very, very, very special.

  • We say that it is exquisite.

  • The architecture in the Temple de Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is exquisite.

  • Number 3 - Lovely

  • Lovely means very pleasant or enjoyable.

  • So when you want to express something that's not like extremely beautiful, but still really, really nice...

  • We say lovely.

  • We had a lovely picnic at the park.

  • Number 4 - Stunning

  • Now stunning is very different than lovely.

  • Where lovely was a little soft, stunning is strong.

  • So if somebody is stunning or if something is stunning, it means that it kind of shocks you with it's beauty.

  • Her wedding dress was stunning.

  • Number 5 - Magnificent

  • Magnificent means impressively beautiful or extravagant.

  • This is a word I really like because many times it's used to describe nature.

  • Of course you can use magnificent with people as well.

  • So, it really means extremely impressive.

  • For example, you can say...

  • The view from the top of the mountain was magnificent.

  • Number 6 is Splendid.

  • And splendid really is just a synonym for magnificent.

  • So it can be used interchangeably.

  • But it's really mostly used for nature or objects rather than people.

  • I picked up a splendid flower bouquet for our apartment.

  • Number 7 - Appealing

  • Appealing is attractive or interesting.

  • I would say appealing is many times used to describe food.

  • We really definitely use, "Oh this looks appealing" or "This doesn't look appealing to me."

  • So you will definitely hear it in that context.

  • The strawberries looked very appealing, so I got two boxes.

  • Number 8 is Attractive.

  • And attractive means very pleasing to the eye.

  • You can use attractive to describe both men and women.

  • It can be used for objects as well.

  • But it's mainly used to say that someone's good looking.

  • My husband is a very attractive man.

  • Number 9 is Charming.

  • And charming means pleasant or attractive with a great personality.

  • It can be used to describe both objects and people.

  • We spent Christmas Eve in a charming little cottage by the water.

  • And superb means excellent and splendid.

  • It's really just very, very beautiful.

  • The little girl had a superb singing voice.

  • Number 11 - Gorgeous

  • Gorgeous means beautiful and very attractive.

  • But it can also be used for nature and objects.

  • We stopped to look at the gorgeous sunset.

  • Number 12 - and I really like this one - is Ravishing.

  • Ravishing means delightful, entrancing.

  • I would almost say disarming.

  • It's such a beautiful word. I love it.

  • Her ravishing smile lit up the room.
