  • Welcome to Tokyo Tuesday.

  • If you're a regular viewer, welcome back today.

  • With the sounds of Japanese summer in the background, I'm gonna be sharing with you guys some of the best tips for climbing Mt.

  • Fuji.

  • Actually, I'm gonna be sharing you with you is a bit of a misnomer.

  • You see, today I have a guest who has climbed Mount Fuji.

  • How many times?

  • Seven times.

  • Seven times.

  • Let's put the camera down and get started before we jump into things I want to introduce.

  • Victor Victor runs an instagram called frame of travel.

    維克多Victor營運的instagram叫frame of travel。

  • It is spectacular.

  • It is also linked below most people.

  • When they climb, Mount Fuji will climb from the fifth station.

  • Victor climbs from the sea.

  • Yeah.

  • Victor has all the best tips for climbing Mt.

  • Fuji.

  • I am gonna get him to share those with us today.

  • And then we're gonna wrap up the video at the end by me sharing some of my biggest failures for my client.

  • Let me let me change the camera position that that's really high.

  • So tip number one.

  • What is it?

  • Tip number one would basically be bring a lot of 100 endpoints if this is gonna be your first climb up Mount Fuji.

  • You need to bring these 100 points because soon to get up to the fifth station.

  • For some reason, everything costs 100 or 200 or 300 hand, especially the bathrooms.

  • I am already really glad that I asked you here because I completely forgot about that.

  • That is a really important tip.

  • Bring your change.

  • I guess we're on the tip number two.

  • Okay, So tip number two is that if you're coming here to Japan, you're not ready.

  • You buy a new pair of foods, do not wear them for the first time when you're climbing.

  • Mount Fuji, please.

  • For the love of God, break them in.

  • If you're gonna be climbing Mount Fuji with brand new boots, you're gonna have a bad time.

  • Yeah, I'm gonna add a little bit too.

  • That because you're not just gonna have a bad time because the boots will be uncomfortable and you will get blistered.

  • Have you done?

  • Have you done a climb with new boots before?

  • My first.

  • Never again.

  • Speaking from experience.

  • You see, I made the exact same mistake the very first time and on Lee time that I've ever climbed Mount Fuji.

  • I bought a brand new pair of like Timberline Ask boots for the climb.

  • The way up was fine.

  • The way up was completely fine.

  • But by the time I got up there, I definitely had blisters.

  • And on the way down there was a disaster.

  • It was an absolute You know what?

  • Before I get into the disaster, I wanna hear tip number three because I feel it.

  • Ties in tip number three is basically get yourself a pair of gaiters.

  • You don't know gators are.

  • It's kind of like a detective kind of layer that you put on the top of your boots that surrounds your leg in order to prevent any rocks from getting inside your boots.

  • Are they like leg warmers?

  • Do they look like like leg warmers?

  • Wrapping around your boot.

  • You recommend this because because everybody always has fun about climbing all the way up.

  • But they never remember that you have to climb back down.

  • And the past that you take travel back down are still with lots of volcanic super sharp pebbles and rocks that will always get into your foods e.

  • I feel like this is a pretty good time to share what happened with my boots.

  • So you see the climb up is super.

  • It's actually really easy.

  • It's tiring, but it's not that difficult.

  • But the trip down is when you want to die.

  • Ah, lot of people, myself included, will try to mitigate this by kind of running and sliding down like you're skiing down the mountain.

  • I did this for about the 1st 30 minutes of my descent.

  • It was at that point that I hit one of these rocks, not to mention all the ones that were in my boot and the soul of my brand new boots ripped off when flying down the matter.

  • After I went and retrieved it, I had to duct tape it back together.

  • That rocks that I hit broke my toes.

  • So the remainder of my descent down Mount Fuji was done with a ripped duct tape boot and a broken toe.

  • Took what?

  • How many hours?

  • Four hour descent.

  • A 4.5?

    A 4.5?

  • Yeah.

  • Yeah, there were some other mistakes I made in there, but we'll get to that tip number four.

  • Okay, so tip number four is basically bring Thea essential small stuff mask sunscreen.

  • You're gonna get burnt and then small bandages on Impossible sunglasses and a half.

  • I would agree with all of that.

  • Why do you recommend a math?

  • A mask is very essential because you're forgetting the thousands of other people they're climbing in front of you and all the dust that they're kicking up constantly, Constantly, Constantly.

  • Now, I may be shaving here, but back when I climbed it when I had a full beard, my beard was full of red dust.

  • By the time I actually got down, I forgot my mask.

  • And this stuff is some nasty stuff to breathe in as well.

  • So definitely wear a mask for that.

  • You know, the first time that Victor and I ever ran into each other was in Shinjuku.

  • Video linked up here, and he had a full beard at that time.

  • So when we met today, I was like, Who is this guy?

  • What would be your fifth?

  • So a lot of people starting from the fifth station usually take a bus up there.

  • Right on.

  • They think.

  • Okay, I'm just gonna get off the bus and just start climbing up there.

  • But that's probably one of the worst things you could do because of elevation sickness.

  • So if you are taking a bus and you're not with a group, chill a defense station for an hour, hour and a half and then start your descent.

  • And the reason for this is because if you try to shotgun it up there, you're not gonna be used to.

  • The atmosphere is a lot less.

  • They're up there and you're gonna start getting some nasty migraine headaches, vomiting and all this nasty stuff.

  • So prevent that and just relax for a little bit before you start your sense.

  • E would agree with that 1 100%.

  • We'll talk a little later.

  • Do you have any bonus tips?

  • I love?

  • I love bonus tip bonus tips.

  • Okay, so we're gonna get the bonus tip.

  • So this is more like the seat of summit type of stuff, right?

  • Okay, well, see, the summit brings two different shoes.

  • You're gonna want some running shoes, and then you want your hiking shoes, okay?

  • And the reason for this is because you're starting from the sea and you will be going to the city.

  • You do not want to go through the city in the heat with your boots on.

  • Most nastiest thing you could do Wear the most relaxing running shoes you can.

  • And use that up until you get to like the forest base of the mountain and then switch to your actual foods.

  • It really adds a lot of ah, wait, but it's worth it.

  • Another quick tip is that if you're gonna do the seat of something, invest in a A like a camel back on.

  • The reason for this is twofold.

  • One you carry your water with you and it takes up a minimal amount of space while you keep going.

  • And the second reason which is this is like the best pro tip in the world.

  • Trust me.

  • Um, Mount Fuji.

  • When you buy drinks at each kind of station, you have to take your trash with you all the time.

  • So it sucks carrying this bottle up, you finish it halfway and you have to carry it with you all the time.

  • And then the other person would accept it because you're invited from them or with Cal back, you just drink by another water, pour it out in front of them and you give it back to them right on the spot and they'll accept it because you bought it from them.

  • One of the things that I struggled with climbing the mountain was every single time that I did pick up a drink.

  • I had to hold this stuff.

  • If your bag is already fully packed when you arrive, it's only gonna be worse when you get to the top based off of these tips, which are really important.

  • I wanted to share with you guys some of my major failures from the first time that I climbed two major mistakes that I made.

  • And they're both kind of wrapped up in Pride number one.

  • People say when you climb for the first time, don't take one of the difficult courses.

  • Take like an easy course like Gotemba or Yoshida course I was like, I'm Canadian.

  • I'm gonna take whatever course I wanna take on.

  • I took like, one of the more difficult courses like Cuba shitty.

  • Oh, yeah, yeah, I took this Suba Shady court is not the most difficult, but it is like I think it's the second most difficult course and the second mistake that I made within that is people say Definitely give yourself some time to adapt to the altitude on do the same when you get to the top.

  • I had set myself a climb limit.

  • You see, I started climbing it around eight PM That's when we arrived.

  • Fan station way arrived at the station at 8 p.m. And I had a bullet train booked the next day for 1:30 p.m. Just a bad idea.

  • Just all around.

  • Everything about it was terrible.

  • Did you make it?

  • I made it, e just I just made it.

  • But I'm pretty sure if I wasn't in that much of a rush, I probably wouldn't have ripped my boot.

  • Uh, yeah, a swell.

  • It just made me more tired and maybe and stop me from enjoying the experience as much as I could have.

  • There is a saying in Japan.

  • Wiseman climbs Mt.

  • Fuji one.

  • He's already laughing, you know, he's heard it many a time.

  • The wise man climbs Mt.

  • Fuji once the fool climbs it twice.

  • Or I guess in this case seven times, I have no idea what that means.

  • How do you feel about that?

  • though I love the experience.

  • To be honest, the thing is like going.

  • We'll see the summit route.

  • I go at my own pace.

  • So while I'm taking pictures, I'm actually able to enjoy the atmosphere.

  • Supposed to go in on a bus tour where you're forced thio meet a certain time deadlines.

  • I could go on my own pace.

  • That's what I love about it.

  • That's really important.

  • And that's where I messed up because I didn't go.

  • I did go at my own pace, but I messed up in setting that pace on.

  • The other thing is, when you get to the top, when you're like in that last like, half kilometer of the climb gets crowded like I'm talking like last train on the Ginza or Yemen Otay line crowded.

  • And that's even an understatement.

  • Yeah, my one tip for climbing Mt.

  • Fuji outside of like gear and shoes and making sure that you've got a good poll to use.

  • Yes, you need the poll.

  • I've seen people do it without, but it helps.

  • My number one tip would give yourself enough time and don't rush.

  • Don't pull a normal.

  • All of that being said, there isn't an abundance of information out there on, like how to climb Mount Fuji on the different routes and everything like that.

  • This video wasn't really for that.

  • This was just kind of I wanted to share with you guys from an experienced climbers view the best tips and some of my failures.

  • And once again, Victor's instagram and everything is gonna be linked down below.

  • He instagram story to his whole last climb.

  • So if you are looking toe live vicariously through someone climbing Mount Fuji, check out his instagram because when are you climbing?

  • Next?

  • The second week of August and I'll be doing it live again.

  • It's like a month away.

  • So if you guys wanna live vicariously through someone climbing Mount Fuji because I'm probably not going to do it again, definitely check out Victor's instagram.
