I've read about it, I've heard about it where?

A selfie is a self-portrait, supposedly.

It's taking a picture of yourselfie!

Even I've gotten good with the selfie.

Your iPhone or your phone, and you take a picture of yourself,

and I don't know if you post it on your selfie page. I don't know.

(Finebros) And have you ever taken a selfie?

Actually, yes!

I have. (laughs)

Never.

I don't think it's for the over 50 crowd.

I don't do selfies, mmm-mmm.

Everybody else wants to take a picture of me.

I just don't have a cell phone.

I don't even have a phone that takes pictures.

Well, I don't have the equipment, first of all.

I don't have that little--what is it--an iPod?

Yeah, I don't have an iPod.

I don't seem to have the time.

I don't know where all these people have all this time to piss away.

(Finebros) When you were a teenager or college aged,

with the camera technology at the time,

would people turn the cameras around and take pictures

-of themselves all the time? -No.

I don't ever remember that.

Never! Unheard of.

Well, you'd turn it around and set it up and you could put it on a timer.

I don't think anybody thought about it.

It would be completely awkward, unable to do.

You took pictures of other people!

(Finebros) Do you think that if you had that technology

back then you would've taken pictures of yourself?

Oh, probably! We would've all done it, wouldn't we?

(Finebros) The other part of selfies is specifically to post it online.

Maybe they have a weak self esteem today

and they have to take photographs to assure themselves that they exist.

(Finebros) What do you think about people liking the concept

of people just wanting to see their pictures and commenting about them?

I think it's strange.

That's normal.

People have always had pictures of themselves.

Everybody wants at least 15 minutes of fame and glory.

Now that we've got things so immediate, it can be 15 seconds per day.

Can be obviously a bit dangerous.

Somebody's going to get a little too obsessed

with a girl or guy they don't know.

And these kids are not thinking about protecting themselves at all.

Then when they go to get a job, when they're in their 20s

and they're really proud of their college degree,

and they walk in and the employee says,

'By the way, I was looking for you and look what I found!

Your little nude selfie! How clever.

Do we want you for us? No, no, no, no, no.'

(Finebros) A lot of cases, people post selfies

so they can get likes on their picture.

Do you know what that means, to get likes?

Wasn't that the Facebook thing?

Or is it on everything now?

That people like the pictures.

They think it's cute, it's fun, it's great.

Why would I care if a stranger likes me!

An invasion of privacy.

People are harassing me now.

Like me here! Like me!

You know what I say to that?

Delete.

(Finebros) Do you know what the actual act of liking a picture is?

(Finebros) This has become so huge that there is now trends,

where people will take specific types of selfies.

So one of the most recent ones is called a sellotape selfie.

-Here is an example. -Okay. Oh, good god!

(scoffs)

It's sort of like Jackass.

Look at him! Look how stupid.

Why would anyone want to make himself look so stupid?

Well, she certainly looks horrible.

She now has a pig's face.

What is the purpose of that?

I like the fact that he added his phone.

That's very cute.

Who has time to sit at home and tape their face up?!

I don't think me and my friends are going to be doing that.

Their concept of what one should post or look like

is completely different than ours.

I try to spend all this time making myself look good!

It just goes to show you that we need psychiatrists.

(Finebros) So back to the song.

-The music video has over 50 million views. -Unbelievable.

(Finebros) And the song is even being played on the radio.

Do kids listen to radio anymore?

That doesn't make any sense.

I'm just glad I'm not a teenager anymore.

I would change the station.

Are they looking at it because it's silly

or looking at it because it's serious?

(Finebros) Do you think this was a serious song?

Or do you think they were making this to make fun of selfies?

This looked more like a serious song.

They were trying to make a serious song to their market.

I hope it was a joke.

I get the feeling they're making fun of selfie culture.

I definitely think it was put on to put a mirror up to themselves.

(Finebros) So, finally, can you humor us and take a selfie on our phone?
