So today I have a question from Bhuntay, I hope I pronounced 嗨! 早安, 我是朱利安. 今天我有個問題,來自Bhuntay,我希望有把你的名字發對音, your name right, and John. Although, actually this question isn't unique to them it is a 有把你的名字發對音,與John。雖然,事實上不只有他們有這個問題, question that I get asked very, very often. How to improve English speaking skills? So 我常收到同樣的問題:如何提升英文口說能力,所以 that's the topic of today's video. 這就是今日影片的主題。 Okay, so how to improve English speaking skills? I have made videos about this before and basically 好了,那麼我們如何提升英文口說能力呢? 我曾經做過有關這次主題的影片 every person who makes English teaching videos on Youtube has made hundreds of videos about 而且基本上,在youtube製作過英文教學影片的人,已做過好幾百部影片討論有關這個主題 this topic. Yes, there are thousands of videos on Youtube about improving speaking skills. 是的,有上千部的影片在youtube上,教你如何增加口說能力 But I'm going to say that, well not just speaking but all English basically comes down to a 但我將要說的,不只是口說,而是整體英文能力基本上都可歸納成 very simple two-step process. One, learn the language that you need to use in your specific 兩個非常簡單的步驟。第一是學習你所需要使用的語言,根據你會遇到的具體 situation and two, do it. It really is that simple. It basically just comes down to those 情況,第二,實踐它。就是那麼簡單,基本上就是總結成這兩件事情 two things. Learn what you need and then use it. And at first it might be difficult but 把你需要的學會,然後運用它。而第一件事情可能會困難 it will get easier over time. 但經過一段時間會變簡單些 This said, here are some tips, free tips, in fact, that will help you make the process 這裡有一些秘訣,免費的秘訣,事實上,這會幫助你讓你的學習過程 a little bit easier and a little bit faster. My first tip is to make very specific goals. 簡單一些且快一些。第一個秘訣是設立非常具體的目標 This is why I said learn the language that is specific to your situation. And I've talked 這就是為什麼我說學習在你會遇到的具體情況的語言。而且我先前 about this in the videos before, but the different situations need different kinds of English. 在很多影片中談論過這個,但不同的狀況需要不同種的英文。 If you're going to be a news caster you're going to need very different skills to what 假使你將要成為一位新聞主播,你將需要不同種類的技能 you're going to need if you just want to have a conversation on travel. If you need to use 來應付你將要所需的。假使你只需要在旅行中用的到的會話,假使你需要在 English in your job for example giving sales presentations overseas, or being an Engineer, 工作中用到英文,例如,給一個越洋的銷售口頭報告,或者是成為一位工程師 or something to do with I.T. or something like that. Each kind of field is going to 或者是做與I.T.有關的事 等等。每一種領域 need its own kind of vocabulary, its own kind of language. So make very specific goals, 將需要其擁有的單字,以及它所擁有的語言。所以,設立具體的目標, really think about what you need in your situation and why, and focus on that. 真實地想像在那樣的狀況下,甚麼是你所需要的,以及為什麼,並專心致力於此。 My second tip is to focus on vocabulary more than grammar. The reason I say this is because 第二個訣竅是要專注在單字多於文法,我這樣說的理由是在於 you can communicate a lot with only vocabulary. But with only grammar, you can communicate 你僅使用單詞,還是可以進行很多的溝通,但若是只使用文法,就無法進行交流了 nothing. And to be honest, although English learners learned a lot of different kinds 而且老實說,雖然英文學習會學很多不同種的文法, of grammar like the present simple and then the past progressive, and the past progressive 像是現在簡單式,然後過去進行式,過去完成式 perfect and you know the list just goes on and on. There are so many of these kinds of 你知道這列舉還有很多很多種。有很多種不同的 tenses and grammar forms. But the reality is that we don't actually use most of those 時態與文法格式。但現實是我們實際上在很多時候 most of the time. So yes I guess you do need to learn them although I'm still not too sure 不使用他們全部。所以,我猜測你確實需要學習它們,雖然我仍不確定 whether you actually do or not. I guess yes you do need to learn grammar but no grammar 你實際上做了沒。我猜你確實需要學習文法,然而沒有文法 isn't the most important thing. Definitely focus more on vocabulary much more than grammar. 不是最重要的事情。一定要多專注在單詞上多於文法 Learn the words that you need for your kind of specific situation. Focus on that mainly. 學習這些你在具體情況中會需要的單詞,主要專注於單詞上 My third tip is to try and get used to Speaking in phrases not in individual words. This is 我的第三個訣竅是嘗試且習慣說片語,而非一個一個的單詞。 where a lot of problem with kind of translating in your head comes from I think. It's kind 我認為很多問題會出現在於你在腦子裡進行翻譯, of the way we people teach in schools, white people get taught in schools. You learn grammar 這就是一種我們在學校教授,同時有人在學校被教導的方式。你學習文法規則 rules and then you use that rule with vocabulary and then you, what you end up doing is you 然後你使用這規則與單詞,然後你最後要做的是 end up having a sentence in your native language and then try to translate it. And that doesn't 你要終結使用你的母語句子,然後將這句母語句子翻譯的習慣。 work very well. Try and get used to speaking in phrases because we do tend to speak in 那不是很好進行。嘗試並習慣片語口說,因為我們本身就是傾向用非常慣性 very fixed kind of way. There isn't much, we don't use much creative language if that 的方式說話。不用太多,我們不太常使用自創語言, make sense. For example, this is why we have things like collocations, kind of fixed phrases. 就算那字句沒有錯誤。例如,我們會有一些排列字句,像是慣用的片語 You know we always say 'Good morning'. We don't say 'happy morning'. We always say 'ride 我們常說 "good morning",我們不說 " Happy morning",我們總是說 "ride a bike', we don't say 'take a bike' with the meaning of riding it anyway. Whereas we do a bike", 我們不說"take a bike" 雖然利用take有騎的字義。然而,我們卻說 say 'take a train' or 'take a taxi' but we don't say 'ride a taxi' so much. Try and get 'take a train'或是'take a taxi',但我們不常說'ride a taxi'。試著且習慣 used to speaking in these kind of chunks, in these kind of phrases and you'll find things 在會話中使用這樣的習慣用詞,或是這類的片語,而你就會發現事情 to be much, much easier. Because you don't need to rely on grammar rules quite so much. 變得越來越容易。因為你不需要十分依賴文法規則 If you want specific exercises for learning these kinds of phrases, these chunks and getting 假若你想要有關這類片語、習慣用語的具體練習, better in using them, check Doing English+. It's not free but I provide a lot of exercises 並逐漸熟練他們,可點擊'Doing English+' 。雖然不是免費的,但我提供出很多 for building fluency with this kind of chunking and using phrases. 建立對習慣用與片語的流暢度的練習。 And that's about it. Again to be honest it really does come down to these two things, 就是這樣,再一次誠心的建議,學習口說就是總歸兩個步驟 learning the language you need then doing it. Again check out Doing English+ for more 學習你需要的語言,並實踐它。 請上網搜尋 'Doing English+'有更多的 kind of specific exercises and things you can do to speed up the process but that is 這類具體練習與資源,你可以加速這段期間的學習效率。僅僅如此而已
