  • - Today, Cookie Monster and I are turning

  • an old backpack into a shark costume.

  • (screaming)

  • - Shark, shark!

  • - Cookie, Cookie! - There's a shark!

  • There's a shark right there! - I know, I know.

  • - Watch out, be careful!

  • - Cookie, it's not real, it's a backpack.

  • We're making it.

  • So, this craft is perfect for Halloween,

  • dress up, or just to have a really awesome backpack.

  • - Yeah!

  • Follow along and make your own shark costume!

  • - So here are the supplies you'll need,

  • an old backpack, cardboard.

  • For this we're actually using an old cookie box.

  • Some white felt, large googly eyes,

  • duct tape, a hot glue gun, tape measure and scissors.

  • - Where do we start?

  • - Okay, so step one, (upbeat music)

  • make our shark teeth.

  • So first we're gonna take a tape measure

  • and we're gonna measure the zipper of the backpack.

  • And now, we're gonna take I over there to the felt.

  • Right here, to the felt.

  • So this is how long our teeth will be.

  • And it's okay if you need to use more than one felt sheet

  • to make your teeth.

  • So Cookie, do you wanna draw the top and bottom teeth?

  • - Me would love that. (upbeat music)

  • Wavy, wavy, wavy!

  • There.

  • Now what?

  • - Now we cut the teeth out.

  • - Oh, wait a minute!

  • You got to make sure that you ask a grownup

  • to help you cut out teeth, very important.

  • - Yes, I'll help you Cookie Monster.

  • - You a grownup?

  • - I am.

  • - Then start cutting.

  • (upbeat music)

  • Snip.

  • Snip.

  • - We've got teeth!

  • - Oh wow!

  • They look--

  • - Let's try 'em on.

  • Oh yeah!

  • Nice smile Cookie.

  • (laughing lightly)

  • So once we got two sets of these, for the top

  • and the bottom, we're gonna glue 'em on to our backpack.

  • Make sure to have an adult use the hot glue gun

  • 'cause it gets very, very hot.

  • - Very hot, you know what?

  • Me gonna stand back.

  • - Good.

  • - You know what, me gonna go even further.

  • - Okay.

  • - You know what, me gonna go back here.

  • - However.

  • That's fine. - Sorry, me no can.

  • What?

  • - What?

  • (upbeat music)

  • Pretty good right?

  • - Yeah!

  • That look like shark mouth!

  • - Yeah it does!

  • Next is step two. (upbeat music)

  • Create our shark fins.

  • We're gonna need three triangles.

  • So I've already made two triangles.

  • - Two triangles. - But we need

  • one big triangle and two little triangles.

  • - Two little.

  • We need another little.

  • - We need another little.

  • So, I would like you to trace my little triangle.

  • - Little triangle coming up!

  • (upbeat music)

  • There!

  • - Nice.

  • - Thank you.

  • - All right now we're gonna cut it out.

  • - Okay.

  • (upbeat music)

  • - So now we're gonna take our big fin

  • and we're gonna fold it in half.

  • We're gonna take our tape and we're gonna wrap

  • our fins so that they look like shark fins.

  • So I finished taping up mine.

  • Cookie how'd you do on your fin?

  • - Uh, me little stuck.

  • - Aye, aye, aye.

  • - Me little stuck. - Okay!

  • So once you have your three fins all taped up

  • it's time to attach them to the bag.

  • And you can use tape or hot glue gun.

  • We are gonna use tape.

  • (upbeat music)

  • Cookie you have to at least hold it there for a second

  • and I'm gonna tape it.

  • (upbeat music)

  • Cookie we did it!

  • - Wow!

  • - We did it!

  • - That looks terrific.

  • - It sure is.

  • We have one more step, step three.

  • (soft upbeat music)

  • Add our shark eyes.

  • Okay so we're gonna take our googly eyes.

  • - Those look vaguely familiar.

  • - Oh, I can't imagine why.

  • And then we're gonna put them right here

  • on the backpack right on top.

  • So for this we are gonna use a glue gun.

  • And remember, it's hot.

  • - Me gonna stand back.

  • - I'm gonna put the glue on the googly eyes.

  • (soft upbeat music) - One googly eye.

  • - One googly eye.

  • Two googly eyes.

  • Ta-da!

  • Our finished shark costume.

  • (soft crunching)

  • - Look me, Cookie shark!

  • - Hey!

  • Cookie shark, do do

  • Do do do

  • Cookie shark do do

  • And the best part is, your costume

  • can still hold things like books-

  • - What else? - And Halloween candy.

  • - Yeah what else?

  • - A Cookie.

  • (gasping lightly)

  • That me favorite crafting snack!

  • (munching fiercely)

  • - Yeah, and you can make one too.

  • Follow along with us.

  • - Let's get crafty.

  • To make a sock puppy, you'll need, socks, felt, cardboard.

  • For cardboard, we will be using an old cereal box,

  • googly eyes, a ruler, glue gun, scissors and pom-poms.

  • (upbeat music) Step one,

  • pick sock body's for your puppies.

  • (giggling softly)

  • - Elmo wants Elmo's sock puppy body to be the color yellow!

  • - [Nina] All right!

  • - And I want mine to have spots.

  • - Nice.

  • All right step two, we're going to give our puppy's mouths.

  • - Yeah!

  • So they can say woof, woof, woof!

  • (giggling softly)

  • - And oh!

  • - First thing we're gonna do is we're gonna grab

  • a roll of tape. - Uh huh.

  • - And we're gonna draw a circle on our cardboard,

  • which is actually a cereal box.

  • Give it a try.

  • - Nice work. - Look!

  • - All right!

  • Now we're gonna cut it out.

  • - Be sure to ask an adult to help you

  • cut out the circles.

  • (giggling softly)

  • - Will you help us cut out the circles?

  • - Of course.

  • - Please! - Of course, of course.

  • All right, so now we're gonna snip snip around

  • and then we're gonna keep going.

  • (dog barking softly)

  • And now we have a circle.

  • (giggling softly)

  • We fold the circle in half, just like this.

  • Fold, so now, we're gonna line up our mouth,

  • a little circle, straight line here,

  • you see that straight line?

  • We're gonna line it up with the line over here,

  • the seam of the sock.

  • Then we'll put glue on the mouth.

  • And be sure to cover the whole circle with glue okay?

  • - Remember, to ask an adult to help

  • you use the hot glue gun 'cause it gets hot baby!

  • (giggling softly)

  • - Press into the sock and smooth it out, just like that.

  • Now we just let it dry.

  • What should we do while we wait?

  • - Let's dance!

  • (upbeat music)

  • All right, so now that our sock puppies are dry,

  • we're gonna turn the sock inside out.

  • - Ooh!

  • - And watch.

  • Here we go!

  • - And voila!

  • - Look, there it is, there it is!

  • - Look it's a puppy mouth!

  • - All right it's time for step three.

  • Decorate our puppies.

  • What do we need to make our sock puppies look like puppy?

  • - Oh, eyes!

  • - Ears!

  • - Oh and a tongue!

  • - And a (sniffing softly) nose.

  • - Nose, right!

  • - Yes!

  • All right, so I've gone ahead

  • and cut out some doggy tongues out of this pink felt.

  • So here you go you can have one, I'll take on

  • and then you can have one. - Thank you.

  • - I also cut out some doggy ears

  • from all of these felt colors.

  • All right, so let's see, what colors

  • do you want for your ears?

  • - Elmo would like purple please.

  • - Elmo you can have the purple.

  • I'll take the pink.

  • Abby, what do you want?

  • - I think I would like an orange and a blue.

  • One orange, one blue!

  • - One orange, one blue, I love it.

  • So what eyes do you want your puppy to have?

  • - Oh Elmo likes the pink ones!

  • - Ooh okay.

  • - I like those big ones on the top part.

  • - Oh okay.

  • We'll use a glue gun to stick everything on.

  • (upbeat music)

  • Ta-da! - Ta-da!

  • - We have sock puppies!

  • - Elmo's puppy is called Jack!

  • and turning them into dog toys.

  • We're gonna give them to all the doggies on Sesame Street.

  • - Follow along with us to make your own dog toy.

  • - Let's get crafty.

  • Here's what you need to make a dog toy.

  • A pair of scissors, a ruler, and some old t-shirts.

  • Having a bunch of different colorful shirts

  • will make for a colorful and unique dog toy.

  • (giggling softly)

  • - Yeah but Nina, how do we go from this to that.

  • - Well I'll show you.

  • Step one, fold the t-shirts in half.

  • Make sure it's nice and straight.

  • Then, we will measure a thumb's length across.

  • That's about two inches.

  • - Wow. - Yeah.

  • - Who knew?

  • - Then we do here, that's our two inches.

  • Ruler, straight line.

  • - [Elmo] Look at that.

  • - [Nina] Now, we're gonna cut our strips.

  • - Remember to ask a grownup

  • whenever you're cutting something.

  • - Nina, will you help us cut our T-shirt strips?

  • - Of course I will help you cut our strips.

  • Here we go.

  • And there we go.

  • Nice strip.

  • Now all we have to do is snip and snip.

  • Two strips!

  • Now let's do some other colors.

  • So now that we have all our t-shirts cut into strips,

  • (cheering softly)

  • - Yeah we did it! - We did it!

  • - Whoa, whoa, whoa!

  • Guys hold on.

  • We're not done yet.

  • Now it's time for step two.

  • (upbeat music) Pick your colors.

  • (giggling softly)

  • - Elmo would like pink and yellow please.

  • - [Nina] Pink and yellow, yes here we go.

  • - I want the one with all those really pretty colors on it.

  • - Oh yeah the tie-dye?

  • - Yeah the tie-dye! - Yeah tie-dye!

  • Okay what's your other color?

  • - Green. - Green, all right.

  • Here we go.

  • And I will take the blue and the white.

  • Step three, knot the strips together.

  • So we're gonna knot these together like this.

  • So you're gonna pull that out and then you're

  • gonna pull to tighten.

  • There we go!

  • You got a knot!

  • - We did it!

  • - Look we made an octopus!

  • (giggling softly)

  • - Wait, wait, wait but Nina, we're supposed

  • to be makin' a dog toy, not an octopus.

  • - What?

  • (giggling softly)

  • Just kidding, you're right.

  • So now, we're gonna go to step four.

  • We're gonna braid the strips together.

  • So we're gonna spread it out first.

  • And then we're gonna take one side and cross it over

  • and then cross the other way.

  • It's just a crisscross.

  • So criss and cross.

  • - Oh Nina I wanna try.

  • - All right let's do it.

  • - Criss, cross.

  • - Great job Abby!

  • Elmo wants to try too!

  • Criss! - Criss.

  • - And cross. - And criss.

  • - And criss. - And cross.

  • - All right, step five.

  • Tie another knot at the very bottom.

  • So grab the end, and then you pull

  • the little things through.

  • And then, you pull, real tight!

  • - It's a knot, a braid, and then another knot.

  • - That's it!

  • - That's easy!

  • - Yeah and plus it was fun!

  • - I know!

  • It doesn't even look like an old t-shirt anymore right?

  • - Nina, you forgot about step six.

  • - What was step six?

  • - Test it out on your doggy.

  • (giggling softly) - Of course!

  • (whistling softly)

  • (dog barking softly)

  • - Hey buddy!

  • All right, here you go boy!

  • (giggling softly)

  • - Good boy!

  • - Fall is in the air!

  • So today we are taking on a very special challenge,

  • the pumpkin

  • painting challenge. - The pumpkin painting

  • challenge.

  • - We're supposed to say that together.

  • One, two, three.

  • - The pumpkin painting challenge.

  • (groaning lightly)

  • - [Together] The pumpkin painting.

  • - Painting.

  • - Bert, did you know that your eyebrow

  • goes all the way across the top of your eyes?

  • I never noticed that before.

  • All you'll need are a couple of pumpkins,

  • some paint and a pal.

  • - We set a timer.

  • - Ooh oh yeah!

  • And you'll also need a timer.

  • - Yes, you'll need one of those too.

  • The challenge, is to paint your self-portrait

  • on a pumpkin before the time runs out!

  • Doesn't that sound fun Ernie!

  • - Boy it sure does sound fun Bert!

  • Although you know, it could be even more fun.

  • - More fun?

  • How do you get more fun than that?

  • - Okay, ready Bert?

  • - I feel ridiculous.

  • - Oh come on Bert,

  • this is gonna be a lot of fun. - I can't see a thing.

  • instead of throwing it away.

  • - [All] Journals.

  • out of recycled material?

  • - Well Murry, we're making these out of cereal boxes.

  • - Cereal boxes!

  • - You take a cereal box. - Yeah.

  • - Fold it in half. - Yeah.

  • - And then it makes a book like this.

  • - And you put paper in there?

  • - All the paper you need.

  • And then you wrap it closed.

  • - That is so cool! - And no one can get in there.

  • - Demari, what's on your journal?

  • - Soccer.

  • - Whoa!

  • Who are you making your journal for Demari?

  • - My mom.

  • - It's a gift for your mom!

  • Hm, maybe I should make a journal for my mom.

  • I'm gonna make a tube monster for my mommy

  • out of this toilet paper tube!

  • Okay Bryan, how do we make it?

  • - All right everybody, everyone's gonna take

  • one of their tubes.

  • What I want you to do is to lay it down flat and squash it.

  • - Squash it down.

  • - What I want you to do next is,

  • you're gonna take your scissors

  • and you're gonna cut a line right down your tube.

  • You're gonna have this little ring when you're done.

  • - Good!

  • - You're gonna put it inside,

  • you're just gonna snip it once so this opens up.

  • You're gonna cut little triangles out of the end

  • so these look like little monster claws.

  • Makin' triangle fingers

  • La da da

  • La da da

  • - What do we do now Bryan?

  • - We take our arms that we made

  • and we slip 'em right inside these little slits

  • and slide 'em down.

  • - His hands are in!

  • - Now we're gonna lay 'em down flat

  • and you can choose markers, crayons, whatever you wanna do

  • and design the monster anyway you like.

  • (upbeat music)

  • (giggling softly)

  • - I'm coloring it with this orange crayon.

  • I know what my monster's gonna look like.

  • My mom's gonna love it.

  • Hey Ovejita, what does your monster look like?

  • Oh and now, here's mine! (twinkling music)

  • It's a little Murray Monster!

  • I think my mom's gonna love it!
