  • this'll is everyday grammar.

  • I'm Alice Bryant.

  • On Saturday, some friends I rode bikes.

  • We cruised along the Potomac River for hours.

  • It was fun, but then I made a mistake.

  • I took a photo while riding, and I crashed and fell.

  • You just heard me use two kinds of verbs to talk about my bike adventure, transitive and intransitive.

  • Today I'm going to talk about transitive.

  • The word transitive sounds difficult, but it's really simple.

  • Transitive burbs expressed actions.

  • After a transitive verb.

  • You will find the person or thing that receives the action of the verb.

  • For example, I told you some friends and I rode bikes here.

  • Ride is the transitive verb and bikes is the thing, receiving the verbs action, and we call that person or thing receiving the action.

  • A direct object.

  • So bikes is the direct object.

  • Let's look at a few other verbs I used, and I'll show you what I mean.

  • I made a mistake here.

  • Mike is the transitive verb, and a mistake is the direct object.

  • I took a photo while riding here.

  • Take is the transitive verb, and a photo is the direct object.

  • An easy way to identify transitive verbs is to ask whether they answer the question boob or what I took what?

  • I took a photo, and that's every day grammar.

this'll is everyday grammar.
