He easily won the US presidential election in 1952 and was re elected in 1956. He is linked to that periods economic growth as well as the growth of America's highways on the world stage. Eisenhower said he most wanted to wage peace. He ended the conflict in Korea and worked hard to keep good relations with the Soviet Union. But U. S defense spending rose sharply during his years in office. In his final speeches, President Eisenhower himself warned of the military industrial complex.
