Audible 是 Amazon 有聲書的提供者 My advice to you is search for a book 我給你的建議是搜索一本書 read in a British accent, 用英國口音讀他 or your English accent of choice. 或你選擇的英語口音 If you're at a slightly lower level, 如果你的水平略低 go for something aimed at teenagers or children. 去尋找目標青少年或兒童的讀物 If you're at a higher level, 如果你處於更高的水平 maybe go for non-fiction or sci-fi. 也許去找一些非小說或科幻小說 Listening to an audiobook 聽有聲書 and reading the actual book at the same time 並同時閱讀實體書 is such a great way of improving 是一種很好的進步方式 your listening and your pronunciation, 幫助你的聽力和發音 because you can see how the words are written 因為你可以看到那些句子是如何寫的 and hear how they are pronounced. 並聽聽他們如何發音 You can claim a free audiobook 您可以領取免費的有聲書 by clicking on the link in the description box. 只要點擊說明框中的連結 That's a 30-day free trial 那是一個30天的免費試用版 and I've got some recommendations 然後我有一些建議 like Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes, 像是 哈利波特 和 福爾摩斯 all read with a British accent, 都帶有英國口音 in the description box as well. 都在影片下面的描述框 Right, let's get on with the lesson. 好 讓我們繼續上課 Right, idiom number one 第一個成語 is to come up or out smelling of roses. 是 "to come up/ out smelling of roses" To come up smelling of roses "to come up smelling of roses" or to come out smelling of roses. 或者 "to come out smelling of roses" If somebody comes up smelling of roses, 如果有人 "comes up smelling of roses" it means they emerge from a situation 就是指他們擺脫了局面 with their reputation undamaged. 並且名聲完好無損 So it's to have people believe 所以必須讓人們相信 that you are good and honest 你是善良和誠實的 after a situation that could have 在經過一個可能讓你很狼狽又不誠實的情況之後 made you look bad and dishonest. 在經過一個可能讓你很狼狽又不誠實的情況之後 For example, 例如: the scandal could have ruined her reputation, 這個醜聞可能會毀了她的名聲 but she came up smelling of roses. 但她名聲完好的擺脫了這個局面 Number two, to go to seed. 第二個 "to go to seed" To go to seed. "to go to seed" This is slightly negative, 這句話有一點小負面 be careful who you say this to. 小心你是對誰說這句話喔 If somebody goes to seed, 如果有人 "goes to seed" it means their quality or appearance has declined. 它意味著他們的素質或顏質降低了 A flower is really, really beautiful, 一朵花原本很美 and then it goes to seed 然後凋零了 and it doesn't look so good. 看起來就不那麼好了 It might mean that they look older 這可能意味著他們看起來更老了 or worse than they did. 或者不如從前了 For example, after having children, 例如: 自從有了小孩之後 he started to go to seed. 他開始凋零了 He didn't look so good anymore. 他看起來不那麼好了 That's a really nasty phrase. 真是一個非常討厭的片語 Let's move on to something more positive. 讓我們看一些正面一點的吧 Okay, number three. 好 第三個 As fresh as a daisy. "as fresh as a daisy" As fresh as a daisy, "as fresh as a daisy" much nicer than the previous one. 比前一個好多了 If you are as fresh as a daisy, 如果你 "as fresh as a daisy" it means you are healthy and full of energy. 代表你很健康又充滿活力 For example, I thought I'd have a hangover, 例如: 我以為我要宿醉一整天了 but I've woken up as fresh as a daisy. 但我醒來時又充滿活力啦 Said no one, ever. (laughs) 才怪 Number four. (笑) A late bloomer. 排名第四。 A late bloomer. "a late bloomer" A late bloomer is somebody "a late bloomer" who develops later on in life, "a late bloomer" 是一個人 either physically or mentally. 在晚年才開始發達 So it could mean that 可能是身體上或精神上 they hit puberty at a later age, 所以它可能是指 or it could mean that they got a job, 他們比較晚才進入青春期 settled down, got married, had children 或者也可能意味著他們找到了一份工作 at a much later age than is considered normal. 安頓下來 結婚 生子 For example, Colonel Sanders, 在比一般人認為正常的年齡還要晚 the founder of KFC, was a late bloomer. 例如: Sanders 上校 He founded KFC at 65. 肯德基的創始人就是一個大器晚成的人 And then he became a multi-millionaire. 他在65歲時才創立肯德基 (claps) Congratulations, late bloomer. 然後他成為了百萬富翁 Number five. (拍手)恭喜 大器晚成 No bed of roses. 第五個 No bed of roses. "no bed of roses" If something is no bed of roses, "no bed of roses" it means it's difficult, it's not easy. 如果有什麼東西是 "no bed of roses" For example, 這意味著它很難或是不容易 gaining a UK citizenship is no bed of roses. 例如: It's very, very difficult. 獲得英國公民身份很不容易 We also have number six. 這非常非常困難 Pushing up the daisies. 再來是第六個 Pushing up the daisies. "Pushing up the daisies" This is a slightly morbid one. "Pushing up the daisies" If you are pushing up the daisies, 這一個成語有點病態 it means you're dead. 如果你正在 "Pushing up the daisies" You're underground 這意味著你已經死了 and you're helping the daisies to bloom. 你在地底下 For example, 而你正在幫助雛菊綻放 my late uncle Malcolm is pushing up the daisies. 例如: It's very sad. 我的叔叔 Malcolm 正在幫助雛菊綻放 Number seven, we have oops a daisy. 這很令人悲傷 Oops a daisy. 第七個 "oops a daisy" And this isn't really an idiom, "oops a daisy" it's more of an exclamation. 這其實不太是一個成語 It's an expression used to indicate surprise. 更像是一個感嘆詞 It's like (gasps) silly me! 這是一個對於驚訝的表達 (gasps) Oh no! 就像(倒抽一口氣)我真傻! (gasps) Oops a daisy. (倒抽一口氣)哦不! We can just shorten it down to oops. (倒抽一口氣)"oops a daisy" It is quite frequently used with children. 我們可以把它簡化為 "oops" So, for example, when Will says to me, 它經常用在跟小孩子對話中 "Lucy, you left the front door unlocked again," 所以 例如: 當Will對我說 I might say oops a daisy, silly me! “Lucy 你前門又忘記鎖了“ The next one is a shrinking violet. 我可能會說哎呀 我真傻! A shrinking violet. 下一個是 "a shrinking violet" A shrinking violet is somebody "a shrinking violet" who is very, very, very shy, "a shrinking violet" 是說有人 somebody who doesn't like to express 超級害羞 their views and their opinions. 那些不喜歡表達 For example, 他們的觀點和意見的人 I am no shrinking violet 例如: when it comes to expressing my opinions. 當要表達個人意見的時候 我可不是害羞的人 That's a lie, sometimes I am. 當要表達個人意見的時候 我可不是害羞的人 Sometimes I'm not, depends who I'm with. 這是騙人的 有時我會 Don't ask me about Brexit. 有時候我不會 取決我跟誰在一起 And the next one. 不要問我關於英國脫歐的事 This is a really good one. 然後下一個 I use this a lot. 這一個非常好 To nip something in the bud. 我經常使用它 To nip something in the bud. "to nip something in the bud" This means to stop something at an early stage. "to nip something in the bud" For example, 這意味在早期階段就阻止某些事情 if you see yourself developing a bad habit, 例如: try and nip it in the bud 如果你看到自己正在養成一個壞習慣 before it becomes ingrained in your brain. 試著在一開始就阻止它發展 I try to do this, but I'm not always successful. 在它變得根深蒂固之前 And the last one, the final floral idiom, 我試著這樣做過 但我不是每次都成功 is to smell the roses. 最後一個 最終的花卉成語 To smell the roses. "to smell the roses" This means to appreciate what is often ignored. "to smell the roses" We sometimes say to stop and smell the roses 這意味著去欣賞經常會忽略的東西 or to wake up and smell the roses, 我們有時會說靜下心來聞聞玫瑰 and in general it means to take time 或者醒來聞聞玫瑰 out of your busy schedule to stop 一般來說 這意味著慢慢來 and appreciate what is often ignored. 在繁忙的行事曆中停下腳步 Like nature and the beauty of life. 並欣賞經常被忽視的東西 So I might say, 像是 大自然和生活的美好 every morning I like to stop and smell the roses 所以我可能會說: and take my dog on a walk. 每天早上我都喜歡停下來聞聞玫瑰 There are no roses on the walk, 並帶著我的狗去散步 but I just like to take a moment 路上其實沒有玫瑰 and enjoy the beauty that is around me. 但我只是想花一點時間 Right, that's it for today's lesson. 並享受我周圍的美好 I hope you enjoyed it 好的 這就是今天的課程 and I hope you learnt something. 我希望你喜歡 Don't forget to check out Audible, 也希望你能學到一些東西 the link is in the description box, 別忘了查看Audible you can claim your free audiobook 連結在描述框中 and your 30-day free trial, 你可以領取免費的有聲書 and I've got loads of recommendations 和30天免費試用 down there as well. 而且我描述欄中也有很多其他的建議 And don't forget to connect with me 而且我描述欄中也有很多其他的建議 on all of my social media. 別忘了追蹤我所有的社交媒體喔 I've got my Facebook, I've got my Instagram, 別忘了追蹤我所有的社交媒體喔 and I've got my Twitter, 我有臉書 我有 IG and I shall see you soon for another lesson. 還有我的Twitter (kissing noise) 那我們下節課再見啦 Today, I've got a lesson for you on (嗯瑪) (jumbled noises) 今天,我為你準備了一堂課 Today, I have got a very... For example... 有可能 And the last one, the last final blah. 這比較不像是一個成語 (laughing) 它更像是...... (upbeat music) 例如...
