You ask a girl and a Japanese girl in Japan what their hobby is
sometimes they'll say like, "Oh, Disney is my hobby," "Line characters are my hobby,"
and they start collecting things.
For you as a business, to essentially say, "No, you can't film there. You can't post about us online."
You are denying yourself free advertising.
Japan has an obsession and it's something not quite talked about.
Compared to other countries around the world, the Japanese have a quirky infatuation with collecting things.
From anime figurines, to kawaii fashion items, to specific characters from games or TV shows,
this passion Japan holds for finding the best of the best from a category they have so much love for,
is what drives Japan's tactics for sales: by integrating social media.
This collector culture in Japan has led to the opening of themed cafes,
shops, and collaborations between brands and companies alike,
turning this obsession with collection into a well-known hobby.
It's so cute!
This is one thing I love about Japan. Is it a healthy obsession?
Well,
if you can fit a huge collection of items into your tiny Japanese apartment and not mind clutter,
then I say whatever makes you happy.
So in Japan a lot of people like to collect things.
That's like a hobby for some people.
If you ask a girl and a Japanese girl in Japan what their hobby is
sometimes they'll say like, "Oh Disney is my hobby."
"Line characters are my hobby."
and they start collecting things.
You know those things called eita bags
or ita bags? (Oh, yeah!) So people like pick a character and then they start collecting them.
That's kind of like their hobby. They collect that specific character and they decorate their bag with them and then they like,
you know, deck out their house and their phones and everything with that specific character. So that's kind of a thing in Japan.
So like at Apeach, I feel like that's a very similar because they sell a lot of merchandise there.
We find ourselves at the new Apeach cafe in Omotesando,
a hop and skip away from Harajuku. Apeach is a character loved around Asia,
but originated from Korea.
This cute peachy pink character is an example of a collector item
that would match perfectly with someone's stash of kawaii merchandise. Oh! cute
One thing I noticed while living here is a lot more shops and cafes are smart and
Accepting customers who want to film take photos or promote the brand they love so dearly across social media platforms
We are at a peach cafe right now. And there's tons of merchandise comes of peachy type things
So everything's peach peach peach peach, but nothing really smells like peach and a crowd. I might not taste like peach
I don't know what we're gonna have to try it out
Alright so I'm gonna try the Frappuccino first. Oh, it's so cute. It's very squishy. Oh
My god
That tastes like real peach. They taste artificial or anything. It's actually the real peach
There's like peach bits in it really really like this. I was pretty shocked
Erm..
Oh My god, this one doesn't taste like peach though, it has like a berry flavor to it
hmm
That's so sugar sugar. Overload
The aesthetically pleasing and artistically themed foods make for this cafe to promote using their customers and some handy hashtags on Instagram
And other social media platforms check it out if you're in the area
On to our next next destination how much in our stomachs take how much what the heck
There's a second cafe you guys so you can go to either one. Yeah, let's say they have the macaroons too in the donuts
What?
Nobody realizes
The obsession with collection had been going on for years
But the obsession didn't really take off until this guy arrived Hakone on Japan's first ever prefectural
Mascot, Japan thought it would be a great idea to create mascots to help bring in the tourists and customers to better promote their product
Or location the trend took off quickly and how they market these products has changed drastically
It's 2019 and more than just popular characters are being promoted with social media
Beauty products like lush are on board with the whole concept as well the newest trend in Tokyo
Conveyor belts if you've ever heard of a conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Then you'll understand the meaning behind it when you see it now in fashion outlets or big brand stores like lush
I'm not gonna lie. It's genius
It gets customers in the stores
But their phones ready to promote these products across social media platforms without stores, like lush lifting a finger to market their merchandise
Well, the conveyor belt event of the lighting is gorgeous we've come across a new lush store
So if you get their app and scan each bath bomb and it tells you
We need to show the demonstration of it and you can do it in English and Japanese and Chinese
and maybe a few other languages the new lush store offers an app to use while shopping where you can scan the items on the
Shelf to check out the ingredients in their new bath bombs. This is another crazy marketing tactic for avid shoppers
For in the newest lush store, there's lots of things going on here. There's conveyor belts of bath bomb
I think I saw a Triforce. I
Think I found a cell to try for its guys. There's an egg plants would give it
Is this the best thing you've ever seen, you know
Like there's like we dolls with babies and creepy clowns and okay guys. We have to go check this out
Like I am so curious. It's called passed the baton. What the heck is
Another example of marketing at its finest. I thought this was a Museum of sorts, but it was actually a thrift store
I'm pretty impressed with how this set up lured me into the shop not gonna lie
That's what I was like thinking like it's like a museum it's kind of cool it's very hidden
But it's big creepy
It is good. And it's very good advertising. I have to agree
As the Sun was setting we headed to Yoyogi Park to see if there were any events or performances
We snapped some photos and took a quick break before heading to a couple more aesthetically pleasing
hotspots
So we're at yogi park right now and there's some new stuff that they're setting up for the Olympics
And I don't know what this is
What is this it looks like a museum oh
They just built a community center here for kids and this has never been here before so it's pretty interesting
So quiet here you guys it's a peaceful his parents it's cold
It's peaceful. I want to know what this house is though
Fix something tell me you guys what this is. I
don't know I
Did not expect to be out this late
But we were having too much fun and miss came to the park to see what's going on. But there's really nothing
It's in Monday, but we walked off some of our food and I think we're gonna go have some coffee to end the day
So we are at cafe kitsune right now and cafe kitsune is a Fox themed cafe I
Got some cotija, but I'm kinda regretting it because they do some really nice
Latte art here, too, and I could have got a matcha latte which I was
Whatever. I got hodiza moejisha is roasted green tea and it's one of my favorite types of teas. It's very good for your body very
How do you say it? Like there's a word for it? Earthy. Yeah, it's very earthy tasting and I like that
I like a very
Earthy flavor in this day and age word-of-mouth and social media is powerful to growing a brand and Japan is now catching on
It's a competitive business and a sell you have to be unique get people talking
So I'm wondering what this gorgeous City is going to come up with next
Okay, I know I basically live here but these girls haven't been here before so I really wanted to take them
Mariano's all the left jalapenos life
Okay, so we just finished at the keeps in a cafe and
They told us not this one woman told us not to film but I think honestly she was just having a really bad day
Yeah
so we were really
confused at that point when the girl was like why your cameras and I'm like when on their Instagram and they have like tons
and thousands of photos and we were just saying that like
nowadays
You would think that people would be on board with like, sosial media marketing because people come you want to invite people to come
To your cafe or to your service?
With their phones in hand and start taking pictures of your cafe or your shop because that's what gets you know
The word out we're talking about word of mouth and how important that is to like marketing anything
The company is going to not do so. Well, like social medias powerful if
Social media if something bad spreads about a company on social media
It will not do well and if something really good spreads then it will do well for you as a business to essentially say
You are denying yourself free
Advertising scan the bath bomb like it's using technology to its advantage like the event the ladies show this the hashtag
She's like, please use our hashtags on Instagram like yes. Yes. We will. Thank you
It's a say for youtube. Like if you get negative comments, if you get any kind of negativity, don't delete the comment
Just leave it there get people talking
I mean obviously if it's like extremely bad like yes, like offensive and yeah
You should delete it
But like if someone's like debating about something and like disagreeing with you
You should keep that on your channel because people are gonna start replying to that person and it's gonna push your video to the top
and if you don't change with the world
left behind
Unfortunately, it was just how it is. So people are coming to these shops for the purpose of
Instagram and for the purpose of YouTube and all that stuff, so I was really shocked but honestly
I think they were ok with it. I think it was just that lady
But you know, I've gotten like told not to film in the places that I thought I could film. I don't know
What do you guys think?
She's still going
We ate ourselves into a food coma today, but we wanted to just like have fun and just like go
to cool places and eat good food and
Just lip Yolo our lives today. Oh, oh, oh, sorry blossom cherry blossom guy
Oh, yes, this is what type of cherry blossom tree I can recognize it from the bark
These are some type awesome of early blooming one
We finished our food adventure and now he went shopping we were like here all day this place is awesome
There's so much to see you can't finish everything in one day

Compared to America Japan is racing past them and are ahead of the game now with social media marketing
