All that is coming right up guys after we meet another Eat Sleep Dreamer. 的字。夥伴!在我見到另一位吃睡夢想家(Eat Sleep Dreamer)後,全部都會馬上出現。 Eat Sleep Dreamers welcome back to another lesson with me Tom. Today we're looking at 吃睡夢想家們(Eat Sleep Dreamers), 歡迎跟我——Tom 回到另一個課程。 今天我們要來看 stress and in particular sentence stress. Now English is a stress-timed language. What 強調(stress),和特定語句的重讀(stress)。 現在英語是種重音記拍(stress-timed)語言。 does that mean? Well it means that the stressed syllables in a sentence are at regular intervals 這是什麼意思?喲!是指 在語句中的重音節(stressed syllables)規律間隔, and the unstressed syllables are fitted in. So they are shortened down to fit in to the 而非重音節(unstressed syllables)要適應, 所以會縮短來適應 rhythm of that sentence. For example if I said 'She's from London' you've got four words 語句節奏。例如我說:「She's from London.」, 你能聽到四個字, there she is from London, four words. But the main stress is on She and London because 「She's from London.」,四個字, 但主要重音(stress)在 She 和 London,因為 the are the most important words. Is and from are contracted so she's is contracted and 那些是最重要的字; is 和 from 被縮短,所以 she's 就被縮短了; then from, I'm using the weak form there. She's from London. So as you can see the most 然後是 from,我用輕讀(weak form ):/frəm/。 She's from London. 所以你可以看到 important words, the words that carry the most meaning are stressed the most. Now why 那些最重要的字,那些帶有核心意義的字強調了(stressed)幾乎整個含意。為什麼 is this important for you? Well, we use the stress of certain words to carry a lot of 這對你來說很重要? 喲!我們在某些字用重讀(stress )來承載大多 meaning and that's important for you to know a) to understand so if someone is talking 意義,這對你很重要,讓你知道……,去明白,如果 to you and they are stressing a certain word you can understand why they have done that. 誰跟你說話,並且強調(stressing)某一些字, 你就能明白為什麼他們要這麼做, And then of course for you to use it as well when you are using spoken English. So today 然後當你說英語時,你當然就能同樣使用。所以今天 we're going to look at one sentence of ten words and we're going to change the meaning 我們要來看由十個字組成的句子, 並用重讀(stress)來改變 of that sentence using stress. Alright, this is going to be really useful, let's get going. 這個句子的含意。好了!這會很實用,我們來看。 Right our sentence is 'I don't think you should buy a new car' Alright the don't do not makes 好!我們的句子是: 「'I don't think you should buy a new car.」。 好了!那 don't、do not 造成 it ten words but ok if it's don't contracted nine words. So I'm going to say the sentence 是十個字,但,好!如果是 don't 就縮成九個字。 我要來唸這個句子, and I want you to think about what's the meaning of how i said it. Alright let's go with the 我希望你想想看我說的(句子)是什麼意思。 好了!我們來看 first one. 'I don't think you should buy a new car.' Ok, what's the meaning of that sentence? 第一句。 好!這句話是什麼意思? Well first of all the word that i stressed was I and the meaning there or the suggestion I don't think you should buy a new car. 喲!第一個我重讀(stressed)的字是 I, 在這裡的意思或暗示 is that I don't think you should buy a new car but maybe somebody else does. So maybe 是:我不認為你應該買輛新車, 但可能有人不這麼想。所以可能 your friend has suggested it or whoever you are talking about but there stress there is 你的朋友建議過了,或不管你在跟誰說,但那重音(stress)顯示 showing that it's not me that thinks you should buy a new car. Maybe you do, maybe somebody 在那裡,說那不是我在認為你該買輛新車, 也許你這麼想;也許是別人, else does but not me. I don't think you should buy a new car. 但不是我。 I don't think you should buy a new car. 'I don't think you should buy a new car.' Alright, so the word that was stressed there I don't think you should buy a new car. 好了!所以那個重讀(stressed)的字 is don't and the reason we did it there is perhaps because you think I do think you should 是 don't,我們為什麼這麼做可能是因為你想說我會認為你該(you should) buy a new car and so I want to stress that actually no no no I don't think you should 買輛新車(buy a new car.), 所以我想強調(stress)其實是:不、不、不, 我不認為你該(I don't think you should) buy a new car. It's contrary to what you thought before. I don't want you to buy a new car, 買輛新車(buy a new car.), 這跟你之前想的是相反的。 I don't want you to buy a new car. so I'm stressing that the negative there don't. It's almost like saying it's not true that 所以我重讀(stressing)那個否定的 don't, 幾乎像在說我認為你應該買輛新車 I think you should buy a new car because I don't. Stress on the don't. (I think you should buy a new car .)並不是事實, 因為我沒有(這麼認為);重音(Stress)在 don't。 'I don't think you should buy a new car.' So now we're stressing you and the reason I don't think you should buy a new car. 那麼現在我們重讀(stressing)you, for that is because I don't think that you should buy a new car but I think that somebody 是因為我不認為你該買輛新車 (I don't think that you should buy a new car.),但我想 else should buy a new car. So whoever you are talking about but you shouldn't buy a 有誰應該買輛新車,所以不管你在跟誰說, 你都不需要買輛 new car. 'I don't think you should buy a new car.' Ok, so now we are stressing should and 新車。I don't think you should buy a new car. 好!所以現在我們重讀(stressing)should, that's really emphasising my advice to not buy a car. So we're stressing the should basically 就真的在凸顯我的意見——不要買車; 所以基本上我們在強調(stressing)should, saying 'don't buy the car' 'I don't think you should buy the car.' Ok, next one 'I don't 說:「don't buy the car」。 I don't think you should buy the car. 好! 下一個:「I don't think you should buy a new car.」。 think you should buy a new car.' Alright now we're stressing buy and that's really saying I don't think you should buy a new car. 好了!我們現在重讀(stressing)buy,真的在說 don't buy it, rent it. So we're looking for an alternative verb so rent a car or borrow 別買,租吧! 所以我們在找個替代動詞,那麼就租輛車,或借 a car but don't buy a new car. We're emphasising the buy because we think there's an alternative 輛車,但別買新車。 我們在凸顯 buy,因為我們想說有個替換 verb that you can use there. 'I don't think you should buy a new car.' So now we're stressing 動詞(租)能拿來用。 I don't think you should buy a new car. 那現在我們重讀(stressing) new and the implication here is that I don't think you should get a new one, get an old new,在這裡暗指我不認為你應該得到(買、租、借)一輛新的;弄台舊的。 one. Ok, so we're stressing new because we think that's the most important thing that 好!那我們重讀(stressing)new , 因為我們想說這是最重要、最需要 needs to be changed. 'I don't think you should buy a new car, buy an old one or buy a second 改變的東西。 I don't think you should buy a new car. 買輛舊的,或買輛二手的。 hand one. So yeah that's why we're stressing new there. 那麼沒錯! 這就是為什麼我們在這裡要強調(stressing)new。 I don't think you should buy a new car. 'I don't think you should buy a new car.' Ok, so there we're thinking well not a car. I don't think you should buy a new car. 好!所以我們在那裡想……,喲!不是車, So what we are saying there is you should use your money to buy something else. Don't 所以我們在說你應該用你的錢去買其他東西,不要 buy a new car buy a new motorbike or a house or a TV whatever the thing is. So if we think 買新車,買部新摩托車、一棟房子或一台電視—— 不管那到底是什麼。那麼如果我們 about this kind of situation in context. Think about maybe you are in a shop, you are in 想想看這種語境下的情況;想想看也許你在商店,你在 Zara or H&M or wherever and you've got two t-shirts and you say to your friends. Which Zara 或 H&M,或不管你在哪裡得(買)到兩件襯衫, 而你在跟朋友們說: t-shirt do you like, the blue one or the white one? And your friend says 'the blue one'. 「你喜歡哪件襯衫?藍的還白的?」 而你朋友說:「The blue one.」。 Well that is using this stress. They are stressing blue because they want to say the blue one 喲!那就是在用重讀(stress)。 他們在強調(stressing)blue, 因為他們想要藍色那件, not the white one. So that's a really good example of how we use stress to negotiate 而不是白色那件。 所以這是我們如何用重讀(stress) 來協調含意的一個很棒的 meaning. Which one shall pick the blue one or the white one? The blue one. So therefore 例子。要選藍的還是白的? The blue one. 所以就 not the white one, using stress. Another example 'What time does our plane leave, quarter past 不是白的;用重讀(stress)。 另一個例子:「What time does our plane leave, quarter past or half past?' 'Oh quarter past.' Stressing the quarter there because the alternative or half past?」;「Oh quarter past.」。 重讀(Stressing)quarter,因為可以換成 is half past so we're stressing quarter. What time does our plane leave? Quarter past. So half past,所以我們要強調(Stressing)quarter。 What time does our plane leave? Quarter past. 所以 as I said at the beginning guys I think this is really useful for when you are listening 夥伴!跟我一開始說的一樣, 我認為當你在聽人講話時, to people speaking and you can understand exactly what they mean but also for your own 這很實用,而且你能確實明白他們的意思, 同樣也是明白你自己 spoken English. Start to think about which words you are stressing and which words are 說的英語。 開始來想你要強調(stressing)什麼字,哪些字 the most important. Alright guys, I hope you enjoyed that. Remember I've got new lessons 是最重要的。 好了夥伴!我希望你能喜歡,記得我會在 every Tuesday and every Friday helping you take your English to the next level.
