JACOB SOBOROFF: Hey, it's Jacob.
Today , we got third-degree sound burns,
trike drifting through Taiwan, and weapons of chalk
destruction.
A few months ago, 80-year-old, Betty Belden
was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
And her great grandson decided to do something about it.
JEREMIAH WARREN: My family and I were
trying to come up with a way to kind
of document Grandma's last days.
And one of the things that popped up was Instagram.
JACOB SOBOROFF: She's become an Instagram sensation
with over 600,000 followers, including pharrell.
JEREMIAH WARREN: It has changed her personality for the better,
I think.
She's more outgoing.
She's more active than she usually is.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Despite how positive and upbeat
she's been through this whole thing, she needs your help.
Betty's family created an IndieGoGo campaign
to help brighten up her remaining days.
One of the requests-- you're going to love this--
is a lifetime supply of Diet 7UP.
BETTY BELDEN: You have to love people.
I mean, from your heart out, just not from your mouth.
JEREMIAH WARREN: She's very selfless.
And she does not think of herself, at all.
She thinks of everyone else.
JACOB SOBOROFF: I'm sure a lot of you guys
want to become one of Betty's Instagrandchildren.
We put a link her campaign for you in the description below.
CARLY: We all have guilty pleasure video niches.
Ernest is watching little kids get
hit in the face with exercise balls.
But for me, it's definitely ballet.
The New York City Ballet just posted this preview
for a new ballet with music by Sufjan Stevens,
and I'm completely in love with it.
It premieres in May.
If you've never heard of Sufjan, he's an indie folk wizard.
And this is the second time that he's
teamed up with the company.
I danced for eight years, and this instantly
made me feel like I was back in the studio.
But if you've never danced, I think
you're still going to love it.
MALE SPEAKER 1: Yeah, go for it.
Whoa!
[LAUGHTER]
JACOB SOBOROFF: In case you're wondering
what the heck you're looking at, that
is an open flame responding directly to music.
It's called a Pyro Board.
It was created by a graduate student in Denmark.
Here's how it works.
VERITASIUM:You may have seen a Rubens' Tube before--
a pipe with a bunch of holes in it,
and you pump in a flammable gas and light it on fire.
Play some sounds into the tube, and you can actually
set up standing waves.
There are patterns of the vibration of the air, where
there's a lot of vibration in some parts and not very much
vibration in other parts.
JACOB SOBOROFF: Veritasium just posted this video.
It might be one of our favorite ones of theirs yet.
If you haven't already, make sure to subscribe
to Derek's channel.
He's headed to the Czech Republic next.
ALEX: If you ask me, the coolest video today
comes and Sam and Eric, two high school students
from South Carolina who are incredibly talented.
What I love is it they turn to their subscribers for ideas
and crowdsourced all the weapon suggestions for the video.
Did you see the energy sword?
Ahh!
Head on over to their channel to see two more chalk wars.
JACOB SOBOROFF: In case you're looking for a new way
to waste time your cubicle, turns out competitive pen
twirling is a thing.
This video is a few months old, but it's
trending all over the place right now.
One of these guys made it all the way
the semi-finals of the 2014 world Pen Spinning
Championships.
This channel has been killing it recently.
It's two brothers from Utah, who spent the last year and a half
in Taiwan capturing some of the most fascinating fringe sports
that I have ever seen, like trike drifting.
Oh, that kid would kill me in trike drifting.
These guys have already collaborated
with Red Bull and EpicTV.
They are going to be huge.
Go subscribe.
This is the part of the show where you guys tell us
what to watch.
OWEN: Hey, YouTube Nation, my name is Owen Weber.
I'm a comedian and filmmaker.
And I made a video called "How to Piss Off Your State Farm
Agent."
It's a parody of those State Farm commercials, where people
sing the jingle and then summon their agent wherever they are.
MALE SPEAKER 2: Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
MALE SPEAKER 3: What the hell?
I was in Tahiti, man!
MALE SPEAKER 2: Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
MALE SPEAKER 3: [BLEEP] dammit!
JACOB SOBOROFF: Hey, thanks Owen.
We want to see you guys right here on the show.
Film yourself talking about a video that you love,
or maybe that you made, and post it with the hashtag YouTube
Nation.
And please don't forget to subscribe.
