hi everyone Jennifer from Tarle speech with your pronunciation question today's
question is how do I pronounce the letter W or the W sound
w and then the short ooh sound in English a lot of my students actually
struggle with this because you're moving your lips from a very puckered and tense
position to a more relaxed position okay so I'm just gonna add one more word here
and let's go ahead and jump right in so again we have the letter W followed by
the short o-o sound the Ooh sound that's the sound that we hear in look cook book
took most people figure this out and they can actually say that sound when a
different sound comes at the beginning but when that W sound starts a word and
then you have that oo people lose their minds and really struggle so let's
tackle this today it's really not as difficult as it seems it just takes a
little bit of practice so for the W sound www you can see my lips are very
puckered and very tense www for the Ooh sound my lips are more relaxed more open
and less puckered so if you look at these two sounds together wooh wooh wooh
I move from very tense to very relaxed lips the mistake that I see is that
people will keep their mouth too rounded and too puckered and they'll say
woooo woooo woooo so again we're gonna pucker and pull back wooh and we want to avoid
keeping our mouth in the same spot or puckering more it's not wooooo woooo it's
wooh wooh wooh all right now let's try it in some words
wood would yes those words are pronounced exactly the same wool wool
wolf wolf woman woman wood would wool wolf woman and let's try it in a sentence
the woman was startled by the wolf would you believe that the wolf was hiding in
the woods and wearing wool clothing give it a try
