  • I'm working from home actually

  • Ah, remote work? So you're at home.

  • For the time being, huh?

  • The title is a little small but can you read it?

  • It's called " Practical Japanese Conversation for Business People"

  • this text comes with audio too.

  • So this here isn't a script or dialog or something

  • its an outline of the tasks we'd do?

  • Yeah, so we check after using this, or use it to practice

  • ok, ok. Sounds good.

  • Hey everyone, it's me, Loretta, from the channel KemushiChan!

  • So this is just a chill vlog at home

  • where I speak as much Japanese as possible!

  • First, let's turn these off!

  • I just finished my online lesson

  • so I don't need to have those bright lights on anymore

  • how do I say it...

  • I still have some weird holes in my Japanese

  • I tried to ignore it because normally I can speak fine

  • and it's not that I'm having trouble at work

  • especially since no one really expects me to speak at the exact level of a native speaker.

  • People say that to me but

  • I hate the idea of getting special treatment just because I'm not Japanese

  • that's just how I feel personally

  • so I'm going to chisel at this language thing a little harder.

  • I want to try harder at speaking business Japanese

  • and I also want more chances to speak Japanese at home

  • so that's why I restarted lessons today on italki.

  • If you guys want to try it out for yourself

  • there's always a link (with a discount) underneath my videos

  • so feel free to check it out

  • they also have trial lessons if you want to start from there!

  • I forgot how exhausting a formal lesson can be!

  • I mean obviously I had fun....but I'm a bit tired.

  • OH! Sorry, that's right. So this caramel latte tasting thing

  • I mean, it tastes like a caramel latte.

  • It's definitely sweet. Does this have caffeine?

  • There's 170 calories?! I'll tell you what's inside here!

  • OMG DOES THIS SAY MY NAME?!

  • GUYS LOOK I thought it had my name on it

  • Look, look here

  • Focus please.... ok here comes the focus...

  • See?! Doesn't it look like my name???

  • But instead of Loretta it says Lorraine???

  • Is that an area in France?

  • Apparently the rock salt in here is from there?

  • I mean, sure, today we're drinking Loretta salt!

  • So, for today, first I wanted to say thank you again

  • to all of you amazing people writing my subtitles!

  • We've had French, German, Japanese and Spanish...

  • Earthlinguist, Vee Bee and Jacob Holmes

  • These are the 3 all stars of the video!

  • Thank you ALWAYS for writing subtitles!!

  • So on my to-do list: Japanese Lesson - CHECK

  • Other than my lesson, the other main thing I wanted to do today

  • Today I'm going to practice making bento...

  • Deep fried tofu thing... pork wraps....rice...

  • veggies... wait what language am I writing in?!

  • nira (garlic chives) and ....egg?

  • It's BENTO TIME desu

  • Let's start with the deep fried tofu idea thing...

  • STEP ONE: chop the veggie (spinach)!

  • Kind of like...into strips?

  • PS, I'm not using any recipes today

  • SO PREPARE FOR CHAOS

  • Take the pork and wrap it up!

  • This is an electric pan so I just put them in

  • wait for them to grill, and then I'll add a sauce, I guess!

  • So the thing with bento is you're supposed to avoid watery/juicy things

  • I saw that avoiding condensation is a big tip for bento

  • I don't have a real recipe so I'll keep that in mind

  • and try to simmer/grill it on high heat so it sears

  • then set it out to rest

  • before making the next dish.

  • OK so let's make some kind of sauce

  • (adds 2 tablespoons-ISH of soy sauce)

  • adds a swirly-twirl of garlic puree

  • adds a tablespoon-ISH of cooking wine

  • and a salt-bae's pinch of sugar

  • so stir that around...

  • and push the pork wraps so they get in the sauce

  • So here's what it looks like when it's done!

  • OoOOoo Caramelize baby!

  • So next up!

  • This actually is the most important part!

  • These charred, burnt bits at the bottom now are FLAVOR

  • so DON'T WASH IT, this will be our base for the next dish

  • I really have no idea about this next one!

  • I always end up just looking at pictures of food

  • then I study how the end photo looks

  • and make up the recipe on my own from there

  • So let's turn the heat back on...

  • (add water to deglaze, I used about 200cc )

  • I'm really making this up.

  • about 50 cc of cooking wine again...

  • and.. THE LAST OF MY SOY SAUCE ?!?!

  • whatever. Some 20 cc er something.

  • Squiggle of garlic!

  • and a tablespoonish of sugar!

  • We'll add some of this too! It's kelp based broth powder

  • I always use kombu dashi when I cook vegan food for Taylor

  • so at the moment... I only have this vegan kombu broth

  • This is aburage...deep fried tofu skin

  • Cut it in half and it should open like a pocket

  • It should be a pocket....

  • IT'S NOT POCKET. I have to cut it myself...

  • I bought the wrong one...

  • Er, maybe I can use this after all?

  • I thought this was the premade kind that's already like a pocket

  • like the ones that they sell for inari-zushi

  • BUT I BOUGHT THE WRONG ONE

  • Whatever, I made a pocket!

  • OK, so watch me get crazy with this now

  • I dropped that egg RIGHT IN THERE

  • and since we had some spinach leftover

  • I'll just put some in here too

  • I reallllyyyy hope this idea works!

  • Ack, I broke it!

  • Well, here's the first pocket-y thing

  • So take your pocket thingys...

  • and toss them in-SOY-d

  • toss them inside...

  • in-SOY-d. Get it? Made a vegan joke!

  • Then let it simmer on medium!

  • I feel like maybe I should show what my american-ish bento boxes look like...

  • especially for my Japanese audience

  • they probably just think I'm butchering Japanese food

  • maybe this is boring to them...

  • they might like it if I showed them my USA-bento!

  • WTF is an American bento anyway?

  • A sandwich and an apple?!

  • Aw man, I really want to have a big kitchen one day...

  • Here's the trash...

  • Actually, not trash

  • These bits are great for making vegetable stock!

  • So... cutting these into like 3cm strips

  • I can't fry normal pans here

  • So I'm just going to scramble this in the kitchen really fast

  • BRB

  • Maybe it needs more sauce?

  • This is something I made the other day

  • This is blue cheese dressing that I made

  • So in a real bento, you wouldn't want to put a loose sauce, or a MILKY sauce directly into the box

  • You should use a little container like this or something

  • but I'm lazy today so NOPE

  • We throwin it RIGHT IN

  • Hmm... running out of space...

  • Aw man, it looks so good!!

  • I guess.... that's it then??

  • This is the one I was worried about!

  • You know, the one that was vegan-friendly before I dropped the eggs inSoYdE

  • (instagram mode)

  • Please taste!

  • I'm sure you're sick of this background now

  • so this thing here was SUPPOSED to be a Christmas present

  • I went on a work trip (completely unrelated to YouTube)

  • where I was in Northern Japan for like.... weeks on end

  • and since my dad really likes flashlights

  • I forget the word in Japanese but my dad is a sound engineer

  • So he's always working with machines and oodles of noodling cords all around

  • so he has these tiny flashlights

  • I mean a lot of people just use their phone flashlights

  • but my dad always has one on his belt

  • so that he can have it out at any point

  • so I got him a....

  • OOPS, WAIT! Mk, I'm not going to translate what it is exactly

  • Yeah, ok, let's keep this a surprise...

  • [ SECRETSECRETSECRET ]

  • I wanted to give him this SECRET

  • but I forgot I had it inside this bag!!!

  • so before Japan shuts off its borders any further

  • I want to call if the post office is still mailing abroad

  • Thank you for calling, this is the post office.

  • I had a quick question about international shipping

  • Sure!

  • Is it still possible to send mail to the U.S.?

  • It would take us a verrrrrry long time to process.

  • Is this because EMS service is down?

  • Actually, for all international mail sent out from Japan

  • Mmhmm?

  • We can take the package for you, but we can't confirm the day when we'll be able to actually ship it out

  • Ahh.... like you'd just end up holding it there?

  • Yes, that's correct.

  • I see...... ughh...

  • Well...er... I ... mk. Got it.

  • We apologize!

  • I understand. Thank you, anyway!

  • They said no!

  • Seriously how am I going to get this kabazaiku to him...

  • this is seriously so grim.

  • I swear everyday is another depressing piece of news!

  • I want to send it...

  • This one too, it's so cute

  • This is a real, cast-iron skillet made by a craft iron-maker

  • if you hold it like this it becomes a beer opener.

  • and I bought a few of these too

  • I bought this direct from a famous iron tea-kettle factory in Odate.

  • but I forgot to send this one too and it's all my faultttt

  • This is so sad.

  • PS, while I was cleaning I found this too!

  • Look at it go!

  • This was in the last piece of mail your dad sent us!

  • Wind it up like thissss

  • then hide it in something...

  • OK I think I'm losing it a little...

  • Loretta: Inspired by new JOKER movie dance Lily: *training her army crawl*

  • OK guys, so this is the end!
