it's 2020.
It's the traditional thing to do on this channel to start the year by looking at my predictions from the previous year, Did I predict well, Did I predict badly?
Well, let's find out.
Let's talk about those five corrections that I made and I'll give you my opinion on whether I failed or passed the test and maybe at the end of a little poll in the top corner, which you can take to tell me how many you think I got right.
So let's start with the first prediction, which was about espresso machines, and I had predicted that there would be a big surge towards automation because emphasis had been doing so well.
They were seen as being so far ahead of everyone else when it came to sort of super automatics that I felt the industry wouldn't let them keep going out in front.
I was wrong.
I went to host this year, and while I saw a couple of stupid robots, I really saw no one chasing emphasis in a meaningful way.
Also leads of espresso machines that looked kind of the same.
I saw a few interesting things, but but no one came for emphasis on that sort of stunned me.
It's a couple of years before the next cycle of brought it releases that host again.
That's one everyone does.
They wait till host.
I just don't know what we're going to see in the next two years that will close that gap that ever since have ahead of everyone else.
My second prediction was around the kind of cafe market, and I had said If Brexit happens, then bad things will happen in the UK We didn't yet yet managed to Brexit if that's a verb, but it has been a brutal year in the coffee industry.
We lost him big popular cos I would consider myself kind of right in that regard.
In the Brexit uncertainty undeniably has damaged the UK coffee industry.
I don't know what the future will hold.
I have given up predicting anything to do with the nonsense of our politics.
So they go probably right in my prediction for right and wrong reasons.
My third prediction, I think, was around alternative milks.
I thought this was gonna be the year of hemp milk on, while a couple of hemp oil companies did get in touch to to be very excited about my prediction.
I I just don't know if the date is out there.
It was undeniably another year old milk being a big deal and growing and growing and growing out remains the main alternative milk.
Unquestionably.
I was probably wrong about hemp milk, but I'd be interested to hear from you on.
That 1/4 prediction was around packaging, and I sort of predicted a sea change in packaging, and that has sort of happened.
But it hasn't really happened.
I haven't seen any new packaging be released that wasn't more recyclable or better.
But I don't know if I've necessarily seen a big sea change in the way that coffee companies pack and deliver coffee.
I know that it's where Mile we did have higher hopes in terms of achieving a bit more this year in that regard, but I think I'm probably wrong on that prediction.
At this point, I just feel like we should just be taxing cardboard just by the gram.
I don't care what it is.
It would discourage companies from shipping oversized boxes Amazon, and it would just be good, I think, to just use less cardboard.
And that leaves the fifth and final prediction, which was the return of specialty dark roasts on this one.
I do feel pretty vindicated.
There are a number of companies out there doing more developed stuff with really great war coffees, and I'm not sure I can be that mad about it.
I think there's definitely an audience of people who want more developed roasts that just don't like the things that some of us like.
People are diverse in their tastes and a specialty.
We've sort of said, We're not interested in catering to a bunch of thumb on, I think is the market has grown and got more competitive.
People have realized that if they wanna grow, they need to find new customers, and they need to re engage the people we lost by saying Acidity is everything.
Terawatt is everything.
Transparency is everything.
People who love texture, people who love body people who love low acidity, people who like a little bitterness.
Those people could be drinking great coffee too, and now they kind of are which, which I think is good.
I think it's good, so that what I'm calling correct.
I'm not gonna argue that too much.
I think that was right.
If you want to tell me how many you think I got right, you can look up in the poll up in the corner that I get 1234 I definitely anything at five.
Let's not say five did not get five things right.
I did also make another prediction, which was about YouTube, and I said I made 40 videos in 2018 and I wanted to make 60 videos in 2019 on and if you just count the stuff that's publicly available.
I made 65 videos in 2019 and I had the secret goal, and I want to talk about it off, hitting 100,000 subscribers.
I did not think I would be doing this video at the start of 2020.
With around 170,000 subscribers, the channel has had a crazy few months.
I'm delighted.
It's amazing.
I'm so pleased to kind of connect with more people and that more people are enjoying what I'm doing.
So what are the plans for this challenge for 2020?
And there are plans.
Do you have goals now?
Patriot has grown to the point where I'm able to do some really cool stuff and there's a bunch of really interesting things that I'm gonna re reviewing in the next two or three months.
I'm super pumped on that front, but I don't just want to be a reviews channel.
I'm working on a few different technique videos.
There's gonna keep happening a few more recipe videos, those gonna keep happening.
But my prediction, my aim, my goal.
I'll share it with you.
I want to make a least one mini documentary this year.
I know what that one is gonna be.
I'm not going to talk about it yet, but I I'm in pre production of trying to make something more substantial, more ambitious.
I don't know why I think, um, capable of making a documentary, because I could make you do videos.
OK, but I want to.
I want to tell some interesting stories I want to ask some difficult questions on.
I want to make really interesting stuff.
I am trying to reach people who enjoy coffee, right?
I don't wanna be pretentious about it.
I want to make coffee more enjoyable.
That's kind of the goal of this channel.
This project, the time I spend here.
I don't know how many videos are gonna make in 2020.
I don't know if I could make 65 more videos.
I'm going to try the one question remaining that I be interested in your full time.
I don't know whether to do predictions video for 2020.
It feels so unpredictable.
The well, the world feels so unpredictable that I don't know if I have anything super useful toe offer.
So I'm 50 50 on whether there's gonna be a Predictions video this year.
Chances are probably not, but you never know.
So I will say thank you to all of you who supported me through 2019 who have helped this channel reach new people and reach a new audience.
I we had fun.
I've had fun.
It's been amazing.
It's been incredible on a very grateful So I hope you had a great New Year's.

I wish you the very best for 2020.
That's it.
