The 1st 1 isthisphotographysoftwarethat I creatediscalledpanelAPS 360 dotcom.
Checkitout.
Itisfortimelapsephotographers, andthisprojectis a verynicheprojectthat, um, I beganwhentherewas a bigtimelapseboomlikethereweretimelapsesalloverYouTubeand I wasintotimelapsesaswell, andpeopleneeded a waytoaddspecialeffectstothesetime.
Therewasonesoftwarethatwasretailingforover $200 I thought, youknow, that's reallyexpensiveandthat I couldbuildsomethingbetternotthesulfur I builtdidtwothings.
Thefirstthingitwoulddowas I wouldallowyoutoaddmotiontoyourtimelapses, usingactuallyperspective, correctmathandthisinvolvedreallyunderstandingthemathbehindlenseslike a 24 millimetercamera.
Whatdoesthatactuallymeanintermsoffieldofviewandwhat's like 100 millimetercamera?
Andthiswasveryfunformetolearnandfigureoutandfindtheexactmathbehindit, and I alsoapplysomeofmycomputergraphicskillstogetthisgoing.
I builtthecellforusingAdobeActionScript, whichislikeflashtechnology.
That's prettyfunnybecauseactionscriptisnot a verypopularlanguagethesedays, butthegreatthingaboutitwasitwascrossplatformacrossWindowsandApple, and I wantedtomakesurethatthesoftware I wrote a targetbothplatformsandtheyneededtobedesktopsoftwarebecause I didn't wantuserstohavetouploadtheirphotosjusttogetherprocessed, unlikesomeWebsoftware.
So I'velookedaroundfortheappropriatetechnologyforthis, and I couldhavechoseneitherJavaorAdobeAirActionscript.
And I reallywasn't keenongettingbackintoJava.
Anditseemedtomethatactionscriptandflashtechnologycouldbesomethinginterestingissomethingthatalreadybeendoing a bitof, um, I wasabletojustbuildoutthesoftwareprettyquickly.
Ittook, like, twoweeksorsotobuildout.
I knowthisatthetimethat a lotofTimelapsephotographersweretriedtoaddmotiontotheirtimelapses, usingveryexpensivehardwarerakesthatwouldbebasedontimers, anditwasslowlylikerotatetheheadand I realizedthatyoudidn't reallyneedthesehardwaretimersandrotationalmotorizedhastodoallthisstufflikeyoucoulddowithonsoftwareusingperspective, correctionandjust a bitofmathandimagedistortion.
Therewas a verysmallnichemessageboardcommunityoftimelapsephotographers.
I waspartofit, and I knewthatif I built a software, I couldjustgothere, announceitandeverybodywouldseethatmessage.
Sothat's exactlywhat I did.
Andwithinthefirstdayortwoofmelaunchingthesoftware, I wasalreadygetting, like $500 everydayinsalesOvertheyears, I continuetobuildupfeaturesintothesoftware.
I alsoaddedsomeotherinterestingfeatures, like I hadthatsupporttodofish I timelapses, whichis a veryuniqueandstrangeeffect.
Anditliterallytookmelike a monthtoworkoutthecalculationsforhowtheythrew a fisheyeprotectionandthenbuildlikefish.
I geometryintotheprogram, so I'm notsureifthiswasthatwellreceived.
So I'm I don't knowifitwas a reallygooduseofmytimetospendthewholemonthbuildingoutthisfeature, butitwasreallyfunformetodoatleast, and I hadtogetintolike, AhGPUShaderistoactuallydoit.
So I hadtoteachmyselfthatstuffandwiththeselforsomethingthat I'm stillmaintainingthesedays, I sellitfor a prettyhighprice, about $80 apiece, and I thinkthat's actually a veryworthwhileprice.
Andalso, I justthinkthattheeconomicsisthefordesktopsoftware.
Youcanjustchargemore, and I wasprettyhappythat I didnotmakethislikeiPhoneapp.
Wherethestandardis, everyappneedstobelike a dollaror $5.
Likelikehere's a naptimesellingfor $80.
But I stillmanagedtomakeaboutonecelleveryday, anditalsohelpedwhen I managedtotranslatethewholewebsiteintoJapanese, andthisselfbecamequitepopularinJapanaswell.
Thesedays, thewebsitehaslost a lotofpopularityfromitsheyday.
Um, it's stillpushingoutabout, say, $100 permonth, andthewayitgeneratesmoneyisgenerallythroughmembershipstakeofftheissues, so I feellike I probablyshouldbetrudgingmoreformembership.
I chargelike $6 for a monthlymembership, whichisprobablytoolow.
Whenyoubecome a member, yougain a bunchofadditionalfeaturesandanothergreatthingaboutthis.
Thatadthatwasthatyoucouldbuyorgivethemembershipstootherpeopleso A lotofpeoplewouldbedoingthat, becauseoftenpeopleseemtotreeothersbetterthantheymaytreatthemselves.
Thethirdprojectwas a setofiPhonegamesWeb, RPG, APS, really, wherepeoplecouldjustprogress a characterthrough a gameandtherewouldbelevels a storylinetopushtheplayerthroughmanyitemstocollect, monsterstofight, andyoujustclickbuttonsandkindofmoveyourcharacterthrough.
I thinkthekeytothiswastherewas a storylinethatwasjustveryengrossingfortwoplayer, andtheotherthingwas, I hadhighlimitsforpurchaseslikeyoucouldbuyitemsthatwerelike $20 inthegame.
There's a statisticthat 90% ofyourincomewillcomefromthetop 10% ofplayersinthegame, andthoseplayersareconsideredthewhales.
They'rebasicallypeoplewhohaveeither a lotofmoneyordon't mindspending a lotofmoneyongaming.
Umandso I thinkthatwasonemistake I madewithmyfirstwebsite, whichwas a limitedsothatyoucouldonlypay a maximumofabout $6 permonthformembership.
Andafterthatitdid.
Amanda, howmuchyoulovedtheapporgame.
Ah, itwaskeptatthatamount.
Andwhat I wish I didwasaddhigherthresholdsforspending.
Now.
Thefourthproject I didwasveryinteresting, andthiswasactuallyphotography.
Um, andthesedays I thinkpeoplearelookingreallyforfour K video, liketheyneedtobeextremelyhighquality.
MyvideosthatsoldreallywellwerevideosofJapan.
TherewasactuallythestraincalledFushimiInariinKyotowith a bunchofredgates.
Thiswasactuallyrelativelyunknownwhen I visited, andtherewereveryfewpeople.
Butit's funnythatnowifyougothere's tonsofpeopleand I thinkit's because I helpedpopularizeit.
Youknow, I hadthisvideohassoldover 1000 copiesofthisvideo, andusuallyit's travelagenciesthatbythesevideos, andthentheyusedthesetotrytosellthedestinationtowardspackages, andtheytaketouriststhere.
Soit's kindofshamenowthatthisplaceisnotcompletelyoverrunwithtours, and I probablyhelpedcontributetothatmess.
Andthen, um, I alsodidvideosofah, Iceland, theIceCavesandNorthernLights, andeachofthesevideosgenerallybroughtinlike $1000.
Sointheend, myphotographyworkbrotherinabout $20,000 over 45 yearsorso.
Theothergreatthingaboutthephotographyworkwas I actuallygotsponsorships, so I wasabletoworkwiththesellingcompanyandtheyofferedus a $10,000 catamaransandsailboatsinexoticlocationsliketheBahamasorPuckett.
Andwewereabletojusttakethesailboatsaround.
Andthiswaskindofuniquebecause I knewhowtosell.
And I'm a photographer.
Soandso I wasabletotakeweeklongsellingvacationsinexoticareaswherethelodgingandthatboatwouldbefree.
S O isprettygreat.
Weeitherthoughttogetherwe'relookingatabout $3600 a monthor 40 k a year.
Sothelastdamnonesays, When I lookedfor a project, there's a fewthings I'm lookingfor.
Sothefirstthingtolookforitstiming, likewhynow?
Andeverything I'vedonethathassucceeded.
I thinktherewas a reasonthattimingmadesenselikeliketheywerecertaintrendsanduserbehaviorortechnologythatsignifiedthatitwasthatthatmomentthatitwouldberightbeforesomeprojecttosucceed.
Theotherthingis I lookforthingsthatarescalable, sorunning a restaurant, I think, isnotveryscalable.
It's, I think, whatyou'rereallylookingforourscenarios, whereyoucanaffectfarmormanypeople, andthat's usuallydonethroughtheInternetandthengetsthelastthingisusingcodingtoautomatethessystemssuchthatyoudon't havetodoanything, andthenthesystemjustautomaticallytakescareofitself.
