Now, how do we answer the interview question: What did you dislike about your last job?
Here's a few important tips before I give you that cracking answer to the interview
question.
First and foremost, be positive and complimentary about your former employer.
Now, I understand that will be difficult for some people.
Perhaps you didn't see eye-to-eye with your manager.
It happens.
Perhaps you didn't get on with some members of your team, or maybe you were not happy
with the working conditions?
If any of those are applicable to you, do not mention them during your answer.
Just be positive and complimentary about your former employer and that will help you to
gain the highest scores possible.
Say that you were mostly very happy in your role.
“For the most part, I was very happy in my role.
However, there was just one small thing that frustrated me slightly.”
So I would choose that word instead of ‘dislike’.
I would say there was one thing that frustrated me slightly and then turn it into their advantage.
So, tell the interview panel how this one thing that frustrated you slightly is actually
to their advantage.
So, how do we do that?
Let me give you the perfect answer to the interview question.
What did you dislike about your last job?
Here we go.
“Overall, I was very happy in my last job and my employer was supportive of me within
my role.
The team were great, and we achieved some amazing things whilst I was there.
However, if I had to choose one thing that frustrated me slightly, it would have to be
the fact I felt, on occasions, my skillset and qualities were not used to their full
advantage.
I am naturally an enthusiastic, driven and competitive person, and I felt I had so much
more to offer my employer.
That is one of the reasons why I have applied for this position, because I feel the skills,
qualities and attributes you are looking for are the exact ones I possess.
If I am successful, I strongly believe I will be able to make a significant difference to
your team and your organization as a whole.”
That is a brilliant answer to that tough interview question!
“What did you dislike about your last job?”
Because it puts you across as an intelligent, smart and mature person, which any employer
