They came together is a double Dutch team.
Three years ago, at this point in time, there approximately 30,000 youngsters doing double Dutch in Connecticut alone and nationally there'd have to be well over 250,000.
It's no small accomplishment being a double Dutch champion in representing the United States abroad, especially for these girls who have never been outside of the state of Connecticut.
I've been Is it like trying I've been working with the girls for two years now.
When they first started jumping, they had gone to other places, have a coach, and there were places that turned him down because of their attitude and because of what was academically going on in their schools, fires their grades.
I just wanted to start double Dutch in tow, have a team because I had gone to people's competition.
So I really wasn't concerned about their attitude or dear Academic grades are basically concerned about them jumping and winning.
And it was a challenge just for myself, and I went after it.
And since then, the girls attitudes have straightened up.
The Greys have gotten better, and it's become winners.
Phyllis, I think Phyllis is a speed jumper on the team.
She set a new world record as faras jumping speed.
Phyllis is the clone of the team, and double Dutch means a lot to Phyllis Rash.
She I think of being the mother of the team.
She's the one when nobody wants to practice or everybody's feeling tired.

You know, when things don't go quite her way, leasable tend to pout a little bit.

I think kind of probably is being maybe the most relaxed of the team and able to bend the way the team goes.

Double Dutch didn't become a competitive sport until about 10 years ago when two police officers from Harlem spotted a group of double Dutch jumpers on a street corner and said, I wonder if we could turn this into a competitive sport for inner city girls.

And to win, everyone has to develop good rhythm, endurance, concentration and team timing.
I take freestyle is the most creative and fun part of competition.
It's the most exciting to watch because no two teams ever looked the same.
