  • - Hello, and welcome to the Kellgren-Fozards'

  • pumpkin carving challenge 2019.

  • (screaming)

  • (spooky music)

  • (cackling)

  • - I think this is number what, three, four?

  • - Four? - Yeah, I think it's four.

  • - I think four. - The fourth year running.

  • - You can see all of our previous pumpkin carving challenges

  • in the cards above or the description below,

  • wherever I decide to put them.

  • This year, however, is incredibly super special

  • 'cause we're doing an association

  • with Stand up to Cancer during their

  • Fortnight of Fundraising, which is very hard to say.

  • - It's why we're wearing - Fundraising Fortnight.

  • - And actually the Stand up to Cancer colors

  • are actually quite Halloween-themed,

  • orange, black, white.

  • - I mean, this is cream because I'm a glutton for punishment

  • and like to live dangerously while doing my crafting.

  • Now you can get involved in Stand up to Cancer fundraising

  • by either donating using our special link

  • which will be down in the description below,

  • or have your own challenge, and you can find out

  • more information about that

  • on the Stand up to Cancer website

  • for it will also be in the description.

  • - Amazing.

  • - Now this year, we've decided on a special theme.

  • Are you ready, drum roll please.

  • (hands drum on table)

  • - Pumpkin roll. - What?

  • - Pumpkin roll.

  • Pumpkin, - Yeah, it's alright.

  • - Pumpkin percussion.

  • - Pumpkin percussion, please.

  • - Pumpkin percussion please.

  • - Pumpkin percussion, don't say that quickly.

  • Pumpkin percussion please.

  • (drum roll)

  • Magic!

  • - That's our theme.

  • - That's the theme, oh sorry, I, we'd kind of

  • like gone so far from that.

  • - Yeah, I mean also your pumpkin percussion

  • was also magic, but no.

  • Magic is the theme, so we've got to come up

  • with magic-themed-related--

  • - Are you all right darling?

  • - Things. - Can't speak very well today.

  • - I'm not doing well, clearly.

  • I'm very tired, all right?

  • I woke up with a migraine, I've taken lots

  • of migraine medication, it's a thing.

  • - You're doing well, you're doing well.

  • - Thank you.

  • - We've only got like three liters of Coke so far for me.

  • (laughs)

  • That's not even an exaggeration.

  • - All right, wife.

  • I think first what we need to do

  • is chop open these bad boys,

  • start scooping out, and then we're gonna do our designs.

  • - Scooping out the pumpkin's insides

  • is always like the, like the gooey--

  • - That's true Halloween.

  • - Yeah, like--

  • - Oh wait, I'm just gonna remove my wedding ring.

  • - Oh yeah, good idea.

  • - Because it's damn hard getting pumpkin

  • out of diamonds, all right?

  • (chime)

  • Okay, and we also bought a new special tool from Waitrose.

  • So I say Waitrose because I believe in trusting you,

  • Waitrose, and if you let me down,

  • I'm gonna be really, really sad.

  • But apparently it's a Halloween pumpkin scoop, right,

  • it should be therefore way easier

  • than just using a spoon.

  • - Well, it's got serrated edges, so.

  • - Look at it, okay.

  • - And a scary pumpkin face.

  • - Aww, it's quite adorable, it's hardly scary.

  • Okay, let's begin.

  • (spooky music)

  • (record scratch)

  • - Do you want me to sharpen the knives first?

  • (laughs)

  • - Right, breaking proceedings, Claudia's going

  • to sharpen the knives.

  • (knife sharpening sound)

  • (spooky music)

  • - All right, so what are you gonna carve?

  • - Well, since it's magical, I thought

  • that I would go with some kind of cauldron,

  • bubbling cauldron.

  • - Oh, like a witch's magic pot?

  • - Yes, also as we have learned from the last three videos

  • of pumpkin carving, I'm not great at timekeeping.

  • - No, you're gonna do something simple this time,

  • aren't you? - Mm-hmm.

  • - Not so elaborate, and decorative.

  • Normally what you see in a video is just like

  • Jessica's only like just started and she's carving it

  • for the next like 12 hours off-camera.

  • (laughs)

  • That was an evil laugh.

  • (laughs)

  • - Well, do you want to know what I'm going to carve?

  • - Yes I do.

  • - I'm going to carve a feather.

  • - Uh-huh?

  • - And you might think why, well you know why.

  • - I know.

  • - But you might not know why,

  • and it's, I'm thinking more because of

  • going along the lines of Stand up to Cancer.

  • - Sure.

  • - Because I lost my mum to cancer in 2012

  • and I've got quite a nice, magical story.

  • - Yes you do.

  • - Associated with the day she died,

  • which was, we let some, they were actually pigeons,

  • but they were a mixture of white and gray,

  • so they weren't like white doves but you know,

  • the idea was that, and we released them

  • from her bedroom, just a few minutes after she passed

  • and it was meant to be about sending your,

  • - Your, your-- - Spirit.

  • - Yeah, sending her spirit off and also

  • your last prayers with those birds,

  • and one of the birds dropped a feather

  • and it was completely pure white,

  • and I thought that was really lovely

  • and I kept that and I have it framed

  • and I'm gonna carve that across here,

  • because every time I see a feather now,

  • especially if it's a single white feather

  • along sort of when I'm walking along

  • or out with the dogs, I just feel like it's my mum

  • sort of just saying hi there, how are you doing?

  • - And in fact the day that we moved into our new house,

  • we found a white feather in the garden.

  • - Yeah, and I was like it's a blessing,

  • and yeah, so I think you know, magic can happen

  • in real life, too, even in your darkest hours of life.

  • So this little pumpkin will bring a little bit of light

  • from the feather.

  • - Right, pick up a pen.

  • (clock ticks)

  • (fast forwarding)

  • - I've drawn my outline.

  • - Oh, so you have.

  • Beautiful.

  • - Now we've got our--

  • - Friendly Kellgren-Fozard torture kit.

  • - These ones here are actually my woodcarving

  • and Lino carving tools.

  • These ones are particularly good.

  • Actually, they look a bit rusty,

  • I think we didn't give them a proper cleaning

  • from last time.

  • - Ha-hah.

  • - You're still drawing yours.

  • This is what I mean about her carrying on

  • for like 12 hours afterwards.

  • (dog coughs)

  • That was the dog.

  • (laughs)

  • (spooky music)

  • - [Narrator] Six hours later.

  • - Hello, welcome, I mean welcome to myself, I'm back.

  • I mean, you should say welcome.

  • - Welcome back?

  • - Yeah, thank you.

  • Good to be here.

  • - You're welcome, okay.

  • - So as you can tell I left because Jessica

  • was taking too long to finish hers.

  • - I would just like to say before we reveal

  • the official pumpkins of 2019,

  • I'm not as proud of myself this year

  • as I have been other years.

  • - Oh, why is that?

  • - I spent less time on it 'cause you made me,

  • so I don't think it's as creative.

  • - I think it still looks really good.

  • - Really? - Yeah.

  • - Are you just saying that because you're married to me

  • and therefore really supportive?

  • Okay, before we reveal.

  • Pumpkin percussion, please.

  • (drums on pumpkin)

  • - Really bad, sorry.

  • - Do you wanna go again? - Yeah.

  • - Pumpkin percussion again.

  • (drums on pumpkin)

  • - Whoo! - That was better, ready?

  • - And ta-da!

  • - Okay, there we go.

  • Here's a beautiful feather. - Oh, thank you.

  • - Gorgeous detailing here, absolutely lovely,

  • you can really see that you put lots of thought into it,

  • your whole heart and soul.

  • - Well--

  • - Some effort. - I have drawn--

  • - I wasn't being sarcastic.

  • - I have drawn feathers quite a lot,

  • I've got one tattooed on me that I drew.

  • - That she drew.

  • - I didn't tattoo it on myself, but, no.

  • (laughs)

  • - Jesus, how would you?

  • - I don't know, a few people have.

  • - Yeah, but how would you tattoo,

  • because it's right here, like that wouldn't be easy.

  • - Yeah, so I had, and also I did a stone carving

  • of a feather-- - Of a feather also.

  • - I'm a bit feather-obsessed.

  • - There's a lot of feather iconography in the house.

  • - So?

  • - Although-- - You like those.

  • - Now that she told you the story, you understand why.

  • - Yeah, I always liked feathers anyway,

  • I think a lot of people like feathers,

  • I mean, you know, they represent

  • a lot of things, don't they?

  • - I like bows.

  • Not as meaningful, but, I like them.

  • I did a cauldron.

  • - You did, it's very nice.

  • I think it's actually really good,

  • I think you're being too hard on yourself.

  • - Aww, thanks.

  • It's all right.

  • - It's all in the display of do they actually

  • show the design off well once they've got

  • tea lights inside?

  • - Let's light them up and then we'll find out.

  • And please, let us know down below in the comments

  • which one you prefer.

  • (spooky music)

  • (blows)

  • If you would also like to get involved in raising money

  • for Stand up to Cancer as part of Cancer Research UK,

  • you can do so by clicking on the links

  • down in the description to download

  • your very own fundraising packs.

  • You can also donate using my very special link

  • which will be in the top line of the description,

  • so it is nice and easy.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • - Bye!

  • (wind blows)

- Hello, and welcome to the Kellgren-Fozards'
