It's Cooking... AndCrafting. ♪♪ Hey kids! We're going to start with a pound and a half of thinly chopped umm, chopped steak. We can buy it here in Hawai'i already called chopped steak. But, you can buy your own steak and... Umm, ch- chop it, umm... on your own. Then, we're going to add a quarter of a cup of soy sauce, and two tablespoons of sugar, as you can see. I'm doubling mine up. So... We're going to let this sit and marinate for about an hour. I normally don't give it even that much time. Uh, the amount of time I allow it to umm, marinate is about the time it takes me to chop up my onions... ...and whatnot. So... It really doesn't have to be a hard and fast rule. Probably more flavourful if you do allow it to sit, though. You need a 1- to 2-inch piece of ginger that's been smashed, and then chopped. I probably should have scraped off as much of the outside - before smashing it - as possible. But... It's all good if th-, if the skin is still on there. It's not going to kill you, that's for sure. And we have 5 cloves of garlic... ...or 7. And we just want to smash them, and chop them. We're going to slice up 1 large onion. (chopping) And normally, that's all that you add. But, today I decided I am going to be adding in some mushrooms... Because I thought it might be fun to kind of mix it up a little bit. So, I'm also going to be um, slicing up my mushrooms... We're going to mix our thickener before we get started. So, there's 1 tablespoon of corn starch, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of water. And that vinegar, I believe, truly believe is what makes the flavour... ...in this case. I mean, this recipe, so delicious. Okay, we're going to move over to the stove now. We have 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil in there. And to that, we are going to add our garlic, and our ginger. And we're just going to stir that business around for a little bit. We are now going to add our meat. And we're going to cook it until it's medium. (sizzling) I kind of left you on a high note, like I was going to add something to that, right? But, we're going to cook that until the meat is about medium. Alright, and so now we're going to add our onions. And we're going to cook them until they are translucent. I'm also going to add in my umm, fungus. Not all of it. I think I'm going to make another, different side dish. It's starting to get translucent here. So... I'm going to add my thickener. And we're going to cook until the, the gravy gets thicker. And then turn it off, cover it up, and the steam should take care of um... taken care of the rest of... ...the onions that might not be quite translucent at this point. But, it's a really fast, simple, and a super delicious meal. You can salt and pepper it to your heart's desire, if you prefer. Um, the shoyu (soy) should cover the amount of um, salt that's necessary for this dish. So, there you go: Chopped steak Hawai'ian style. Enjoy! Please don't forget to give me a thumbs up for this video. I truly appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
