I'm Rebecca, and we're here today in Kensington Market in Toronto.
Toronto is one of the most multi lingual cities in the world.
So we're going to ask people today if they can speak another language.

The question today is Do you speak another language?
Yes, I did.
And which language do you speak?
Vietnamese.
You can speak Russian and Ukrainian.
Um, I speak Bengali.
I speak English.
I speak a little Hindi.
A little bit of friends.
Do you speak with at home?
Yeah, well, like when we go back to visit family.
And so, yeah, nieces and nephews.
It's good to get started toe.
Speak another language as well, for sure.
Yeah.
Not much.
With friends.
So what language do you speak together?
Always speak English.
I speak Russians.
My first language.
I just speak English.
Vietnamese.
I learned English when I came here.
How did you learn?
I took courses at home and then I went to Vancouver for language courses.
And then I came here for university.
So you studied English before?
Yeah.
I used to live in night.
Would you like to learn another.
Uh, yeah.
I'd like to learn Japanese.
Yes, Japanese and Portuguese, Japanese and Polish to any plans together to go to depend way.
Want to teach English in Japan?
Actually, everyone.
I'm an English teacher too.
If you had to learn another language, would you for shirts.
I need you to um maybe it's like I feel like it's way harder to learn languages at our age when we were younger.
Are you learning Russian?
I'd like to learn Ukranian as well, because my mother is also you could What are you studying any other language at the moment?
German.
What are your reasons for?
Um Well, my mom speaks Portuguese and all her relatives, so I think would be pretty awesome to communicate with them cause otherwise, Like, we can't really have a relationship by polish.
I'm half polish.
So my mom and let people make family our influence.
I want one their language to communicate because my step dad and my mom speak German.
I can understand a little bit, but I can't do this.

Sometimes it's even with our parents is well, we kind of mix code switching.
What helps you to learn a language?
Well, I guess, like the absolute plunge into the foreign culture.
Like when you go somewhere.
And, uh, when you feel that there is no one speaking English because this is the best case scenario to learn.
What's the best way to learn a language, go to the street and talk this danger?
Honestly, the best thing is just so like speak it every day, of course, and they convey in my rent That's the best you can do.
Practice, I guess, because this is the most important thing.
Not only like to read books, but actually to talk to people.
And there are lots of, like, free speaking clubs.
And we met actually this speaking or fall in love, right s.
