- You also get priority boarding which is group two with the premium plus seats so that's about five to six groups after because before that they still have to go through all the members like the diamond whatever status you know united plus gold members all those things first families military personnel group one and then it's group two so there's not that many people really and all these little groups and united also has two lines beforehand so they have the group one section line and the group two section sectioned offline and I usually like to line up a little bit early and these roped lines one of the biggest things I like about these premium plus seats is the legroom you get way more legroom than normal economy seats you also get more space too so you have lots of elbow room and you know you can like stretch out your legs more I just like having more space it's just especially on a long flight like this you don't feel so cramped you don't get as stressed I feel like and you can move around a little bit more you also get a footrest too but I never use these footrests I just feel like it gets in the way and I don't know I just a lot of people like it though so if you like footrests they have it the only thing I did not like about my seat in 22d was the space underneath the seat in front of me was really narrow so I only had about this much space whereas you know the middle seat had like this much space um so it was just really uneven I don't know why it's designed that way but super narrow and I wish they you know would have evened it out a bit more I get that you know the middle seat should have more space because they're in the middle but you know like why this versus this but I was still able to fit my carry-on backpack which is my low and sons rowledge backpack that I always carry with me but it was cramped so yeah that's the only thing about that seat area I just wish there was a little bit more room another perk that I love about premium seats is that you usually always get your personal outlet and a usb charger I always use my laptop on flights especially on long flights like this so at some point I'm gonna have to charge my laptop having the power outlet always helps and I always use it and just to note the outlet is actually located behind you underneath the right armrest so when you get to your seat you're welcomed with a nice travel pouch from away and it has lip balm a dental kit socks what else do they have a couple more other things and they also give you a nice Saks Fifth Avenue blanket and pillow and I actually really like these blankets and pillows because I use it for my dog I've taken all of them home with me first of all the pillow is so soft and the blanket is really warm and soft as well and my dog you know she's really small she's a corgi and she likes to use little pillows on my bed so these are perfect for her and it's good for like traveling with so yeah I've taken all of them home with me premium seats also come with large touchscreen tvs in front of you it's up to 13 inches and usually in economy seats they're about nine inches so it's a nice upgrade also if you get tired of doing the touch screen or if you know your arm gets tired or if you just don't want to touch the screen because dirty they also have a remote next to you that you can use to you know control the tv as well and you also get noise reducing headphones so they're a nice set of headphones and I've used them a few times and they do work really well there's also lots of entertainment on these tvs that's one of the things I get excited about on these long haul flights now is that I get to watch movies and just relax because they have you know a bunch of options like from old movies classic movies popular movies trending movies but they also have new movies as well that's not even streaming online yet so yeah so this is the time that I catch up on all the latest movies and I usually watch about two to three movies on a flight so in addition to all the movies that they have they also have tv shows you can listen to watch concerts they also have games you can play you can listen to podcasts and then you can also you know check your flight to see how far you've gone how much longer you have and other information so throughout the flight you get two meal services and then some snacks throughout the flight so the first meal was about an hour into the flight or an hour and a half into the flight and so that's basically like your dinner and there was a choice of chicken or pasta I chose chicken and had delicious chicken parmesan with a nice salad with spinach in it and also my favorite cookie from milk milk makes like these really chewy cookies so I love that they have that as dessert you also get free drinks including alcohol when I was younger I used to take advantage of this like free alcohol yay but nowadays I just try to stay hydrated and drink as much water as I can I also drink ginger ale too because it's um it's good for you it's good for my throat because my throat gets dry so ginger ale kind of helps with that and then like in the middle of the flight they'll give you some snacks there was chips uh m&ms and also a turkey and cheese sandwich actually they give you two turkey and cheese sandwiches but I actually didn't eat these because there's just so much bread and little uh meat and cheese inside so yeah I was I wasn't really hungry anyway and then an hour or two before you land they serve you breakfast and the choices were french toast or egg and egg and tomato or something like that um I usually don't like um eggs that aren't fresh so I chose the french toast option but I didn't really like the french toast because they put all this like red berry sauce over it and I like my toast as plain as possible so I couldn't even eat it because I didn't like all that red stuff on it but they did have a delicious fruit salad and a croissant the fruit salad was great I liked how they diced up the fruits into little pieces all right so a few more things uh lounge access you don't get free lounge access with these premium plus seats but they give you discounted passes wi-fi I usually don't purchase wi-fi and flight because it's usually slow but this time I did have to purchase it because I had to research something before I landed in Japan so I purchased it for an hour so you have two choices you can pay for an hour or you can pay for the full flight the hour fee was seven dollars and the 24 or the full flight was twenty four dollars or you can use your points too so I chose to use my united airlines points so I used that for an hour and yeah you know it was average speed as expected it's not that fast but good enough to check your emails or web browsing but they already note that beforehand before you purchase it says you know it's only good for browsing and emails and you cannot download anything or watch videos and lastly the bathrooms you don't have dedicated bathrooms for the premium seats but the bathroom is right near you and the bathroom was I don't know it was small for an international flight but there was still enough room to move around I just you know would expect it to be a little bit larger I've been on other international flights with other airlines and they're definitely bigger bathroom spaces but yeah again it's not bad it's just it was very average so overall like I said in the beginning I love these premium plus seats with united airlines I will always try to upgrade whenever I fly with them because I love it so much the legroom alone is enough for me to pay the extra price so for me as always the legroom the extra legroom priority boarding and the personal power outlet those are three things that I really like about it but also the Saks Fifth Avenue pillow and blanket for my dog too so I get to take a souvenir home for my dog so yeah I hope this review helped you out if it did - Yeah so they're not exaggerating it's the truth like you really do have a lot of legroom and with this Dreamliner flight you or with the aircraft you get nice big windows too and they have a dimming know back in the day windows used to be really small on airplanes so I like that they upgraded to like these big windows and I like looking outside to like the cloud view and everything too and so each seat has its own personal entertainment system and you can watch movies and there's like kids entertainment your flight info games and then they have like a really great selection of movies to choose from but I do feel like other flights that I've been on like on United had better selections when it came to like new movies especially it might be because they put more also Japanese stuff on there as well so I think they have to kind of split it yeah oh also as far as entertainment I mean if you have kids there was a kid a family sitting next to me and the flight attendant came and like basically presented a bunch of like coloring books and stuff like that for the child to choose from for their entertainment I thought that was so sweet that they did that for our kids so if you have kids you know that's just kind of like something they do extra I don't even think you have to ask for it just seemed like because they seem like they were kind of surprised like oh like I get to pick something so that's really nice entertainment for the kids this time we both purchased the wi-fi for the duration of the flight I think it was ten dollars for one hour fourteen dollars for three hours or eighteen dollars for the entire flight so might as well just pay eighteen dollars for it and yeah it worked really well this wi-fi there was a couple times when it got a little bit slow because you know they mentioned it ahead of time like there could be spots where there's like dead spots that you can't get wi-fi but for the majority of our flight the wi-fi worked really well I was surprised I was able to upload like stories on my Instagram so it's not just like basic checking your email so yeah I was pleasantly surprised how it worked shortly after takeoff I believe most airlines are the same like then they bring out the food I always look forward to meals on airlines specifically JAL and also ANA if you've ever flown ANA they have great meals but this time I was kind of surprised like how I don't know I didn't enjoy any of my meals I was a little bit disappointed not what I was expecting especially with JAL yeah so I like their snacks oh yes the snacks are awesome like the osembe the rice crackers fabulous so before you get your main meal they come out with like tea or coffee and then like this little Japanese crackers those are great I love those and then after that they come with the main meal so it was like sweet sliced beef over rice or salmon was the other option I believe okay yeah I can't remember yeah I know I didn't want fish the meat was okay it's what it's expected you know from when you're flying but the rice I was really disappointed with the rice because usually the rice is great but it was like overcooked and mushy and I'm like JAL what are you doing I definitely had better rice on other airlines but that's not Japanese that's not an Asian airline so that was really disappointing I'm like what is going on with JAL so that was kind of disappointing they had some other sides too which was like okay and then we get some dessert they give you Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream so I had a little bit of that you know Haagen-Dazs is always good before our second meal which is you know shortly before touchdown there is actually a snack bar during you know the middle of the flight which I really like this idea because I don't know any other airlines that do this but basically in the middle of the aircraft they'll just lay out a bunch of snacks for you to choose from and I was kind of curious to see what they had and had chocolate they had rice crackers like I enjoyed the little snacks that they had and I'm glad that they just kind of have that out there so you don't have to like bother the flight attendant that's one thing is like I hate having like push the button ask for service so I like that they just kind of have that laid out for you and then so two and a half hours before you land they give you another meal so this is kind of like your breakfast lunch it's actually more like lunch because they gave us a margarita pizza which was okay again it was all right and then candies when it came out the cheese wasn't even melted I'm like isn't pizza supposed to have melted cheese so but the flight attendant was really nice about it I was like hey like can I get another one where the cheese is actually melted and she's like okay yeah and she brought one right away and actually this time when she brought it she had me open it to make sure that the cheese was melted and it was so I don't I don't know what's going on if like their their oven wasn't working I don't know how they heat this stuff up but yeah I wasn't gonna eat a cold cold pizza so that was the the food on the flight which we weren't too happy with like it was just like all okay like we've definitely both had better food on different airlines which is like unusual for gel so bathrooms are like pretty good size one side was a little bit smaller than the other side which candy saw I didn't see the bigger side you did yeah the other side is like twice the size and both times I mean I think I use a bathroom three or four times that's always like spick and span clean they must go in there like all the time cleaning it up back to like the service to like impeccable service all always with gel so friendly too very friendly soft spoken you really care about how your flight is and how you know comfortable you are yeah so I do always love that about gel it makes you feel safe and like relaxed when the flight attendants and appreciated yeah because you know there are some airlines where you feel like you're like you're a nuisance like and I hate that feeling so much because you know when there is a problem it's nice to be able to feel comfortable to ask for help or questions and like yeah if there was an issue I would not have felt uncomfortable to ask for help so yeah I just love everyone's super friendly and helpful and then this flight was 11 hours but I believe 11 and a half somewhere around there but it went by so fast and you're like you know entertained by their entertainment system with the movies we had wi-fi so like we had a lot going on to you know preoccupy ourselves so this flight went by super fast for us we left at 11 50 a.m from lax and then we arrived in narita at 4 40 p.m yes I will say so when we landed customs and all that was fine but gel they laid out all of our luggage for us off the belt conveyor belt so I thought that was really cool when we got up when we got through customs like our bags were just already like waiting for us so that was nice so then on the way back we took gel again and this time our little sister came our youngest sister came back with us too um and this time again uh there was not much of a line so you know it was check-in was super fast their um luggage system was a little bit different where you weigh the luggage yourself and like get the tag and then put it um on the belt for them to take it in if your bag is overweight it won't take the bag it'll say call an attendant so I just like canceled it because I knew what the problem was because I knew it was overweight so I just had to like shift some things around and then put it on the weigher again and then it went through usually it's 50 pounds per bag yeah for 50 pounds yeah your check-in luggage and then you get two free check bags um with international flights and gel and then for carry-on you know your carry-on suitcase and then a personal item yeah and again they didn't they didn't weigh your personal items so that was that was nice to not have to worry about how heavy your personal items are so they're lenient with that yeah but again the boarding process is super fast um right when we arrived with the gate again we were like rushing they were already like calling our the boarding position yeah again we sat in the back we were in seats uh 50 so we're row 50 acd so two of us sat by the window and then one of us sat in the aisle area because again it's like a two for two configuration we figured like this way you know um if somebody had to use the bathroom like uh with the four seater they could go the other way you know and not have to bother yeah and that's what happened like no one ever want it was like a family next to me so no one really came on ever came on my side and woke me up so it worked out great everything was the same the same except the same like service really friendly um really helpful so actually my my monitor my screen my entertainment system wasn't working and so i called the flight attendant and she's like okay well let me reset it let me see if that helps so she's like just don't mess with it for like 10 minutes so i waited and then um it did come back on so i'm like cool but uh she did come back um by and she's like i just wanted to make sure is it working i'm like oh yeah i just love that she followed up on it um instead of just being like oh yeah it's working again super friendly and just making sure that you're comfortable and okay and in the past you know 10 years ago when i was on jail uh one of us was hot so we even like mentioned it like oh it's like a little bit hot in here so they even like checked on the temperature for us and said okay we brought it down a little bit and i'm just like wow i can't believe they even like took that into consideration for us and speaking of temperatures um jowl flight is a very comfortable like i want to say 75 degrees i don't think it's that warm no but it's pretty warm it's warm because usually when i go on flights i am like wearing a hoodie and a coat i got my long socks on i got my uggs because i'm freezing all the time but this i didn't have to wear my coat just had on like one little tiny sweater and i was comfortable throughout the entire um flight actually i had my uggs on i was a little bit too warm i wish i didn't wear my uggs but usually i'm like freezing so yeah so just keep that as a note like the temperature is warmer than usual airlines and then we purchased wi-fi again on this flight because we enjoyed it on our flight from lax and narita so like from narita to lax you know we want all three of us got the wi-fi and super comfortable flight um no issues so we're gonna go over the food again so this is like the only con i feel like with jowl this time the first meal that we got was ginger pork so it's like thinly sliced pork onions over rice again the rice was so gross what is going on with their rice situation it's so weird because usually they're fantastic yeah even our youngest sister was like oh what is this it's not that great so yeah all three of us didn't like our first meal the second meal was actually pretty good i didn't think i would like it but it was called taco rice which i don't know if you've heard of i've never heard of it yeah the rice was good finally yeah so rice was good on that and then so basically what you do is mix like taco ingredients on top of rice and you just mix that up they have like the meat they had lettuce tomatoes all that stuff shredded and then you just mix that up with the rice um and i didn't think i would like it at first but it was good yeah cindy was like no you should try it it's really good i've had it before i'm like oh you have so i did try i'm like it was superb yeah and i think the reason why it was good because it's something that they do in collaboration with muji and if you know muji it's like a really famous brand in japan so they sell that in their stores so they started selling i guess they collaborated with jowl so yeah as we said so this flight just zipped on by so this flight left japan at 5 10 p.m and then we got to lax at 10 50 a.m and candy and i we both have a global entry so customs is super fast for us we actually went through in like 10 seconds i believe our youngest sister she has a japanese passport so she had to go through the non-u.s citizens line and that took over an hour so yeah we were waiting at the baggage claim for a long time for her to come down i thought maybe something went wrong because she hasn't been to the states in a long time to visit so i'm like are they did they take her back for questioning like i was getting so worried that i actually went back upstairs and as i went up she was actually just at the counter i'm like oh my goodness it took her that long and once she got to the counter she was out like in but uh yeah it was surprisingly long yeah so i just wanted to note that uh for non-u.s citizens if you don't have global entry like it's gonna take some time to go through the lax customs yeah i don't know if it was a time of year because we went in march end of march also like one of our other friends uh your friend asami she went through yeah in the summer same thing she said it took her over an hour too so i just wanted to note that because that's a significantly long time to wait yes but yeah so that's our review um overall we really love gel economy seats i would definitely ride it again because especially at the price point and everything it was just it's fantastic i - So I did want to make sure that this exit seat had plenty of leg room and it wasn't one of those weird exit seats and when I clicked on the view seat I can really see like I was as if I was sitting there what it would look like and what was great about this seat was that there was nothing in front of me it was like this big open space now there was a bathroom but it wasn't like right in front of me there was like a little bit of space before there's like a quite a bit of space in front the exit door then like a little bit further down there was a bathroom and then like where the cabin crew like got stuff ready I don't know like that's what a trash can and like the little area I don't know what that little area is called but that was their little area there so I was like oh this seat is perfect I didn't mind if I was even in the middle if I sat there just because there was so much leg room I booked that seat and on the way back I was also able to book an exit seat and again I was able to see what the seat looked like so once I purchased my ticket of course I got the confirmation number and then prior to going to the airport 48 hours prior to my check-in at the airport I got an email saying like hey we will automatically check in for you if you want to opt into that which was a you know which is no additional fee it was complimentary so I was like okay yeah go ahead and check me in for 48 hours before my flight so I thought okay if they're checking me in I thought okay I'll have a pretty good zone but actually my zone was the very last zone so I don't know if that prior check-in really helps or not but anyways so once I got to the airport check-in was really fast actually there wasn't really a long line that this could be because I got there three hours prior to my flight I don't like to rush the airport I like to take my time especially for international flights so once I got to my check-in counter the lady was very very friendly very nice and when I boarded my flight unfortunately there was no more overhead bed space where I was sitting before I got to my seat the flight attendant noticed that because he asked like where he's sitting and I said oh that's my exit row seat right there and he's like oh we're out of you know overhead bed space but don't worry there's room right here ahead of you which was actually the premium economy side they had an extra space for overhead for my luggage and they helped me and they were so courteous and they helped me get you know my luggage situated and I really appreciated that I also like that I was able to see ahead so like I can actually kind of visually see where my luggage is rather than it being behind me also when I exit my flight it'll be easier to grab my luggage that are ahead of me and instead of backtracking and try to grab luggage from behind me which that's just annoying that's happened to me before so I like that they were proactive and you know immediately helped me with my luggage and let me know where I could store my luggage without me having to like get to my seat then realizing there was no luggage space overhead bed space and then having a like fine space so they're really aware of what you know everyone's sitting arrangement you know what's going on so I really appreciated that once I got settled into my seat was pretty comfortable because I had a lot of legroom the seat was really comfortable I liked the pillow and blankets I usually don't forget my headphones but I forgot it this time they did provide headphones which I didn't really like their headphones but whatever it's better than nothing once you know the flight took off we got our snacks pre-flight snacks and they actually handed out warm towels and I was like oh I love that I love it it's like it reminds me of Japan so much when they come around with like warm hot towel like warm towels like that's just the best so after a snack you know they did come around with our beverage and then our meal and the meal actually isn't that bad I actually over the past few years flying the different airlines Singapore actually has been overall the better option when it comes to meals like I've been able to eat their meals more than other meals on other flights so I can't really complain too much about the food I mean it is aircraft cabin meals but it's decent I'm able to eat most of it you know if I can eat at least half of it that means it was pretty decent there was quite a bit of movie choices maybe a little bit less than like if I was flying in like an on American aircraft but they did had new releases like they had the new Captain America movie they had a lot of Asian also selections so yeah there's plenty of movies to watch or TV shows as well the only thing that I didn't like about my seat was so there was a USB charger but it wasn't even working I do offer free Wi-Fi on flight so if you're a Chris flyer member it's not like the fastest connection but it's there so you can send text messages and check your emails you won't be able to upload any like videos or social media stuff but but for basic stuff it's available which is great the bathrooms are really average size they were pretty clean the entire time well they're clean whenever I used it so they do keep it clean and what I like about Singapore Airlines is they have a drawer in the bathroom where you can brush your teeth so there's like a little toothbrush set with like toothbrush and a mini toothpaste I really appreciate that because I do like to brush my teeth right before we land just to freshen up a little bit the only thing that I want to complain about this flight there is my tray was so wobbly and warped that I had to kind of hold it up with one hand while I was eating otherwise it's the my food tray like would just like slide off so that was the only thing where I'm like oh I wish they would fix this so they would you know take care of us it'd be easier for me or anyone that sits here so that plus the USB outlet not working and that kind of sucks but everything else worked great overall I was really happy with my flight there and it went by really fast actually I don't know why I feel like the older I get the faster these flights go by whereas when I was younger I felt like these flights took forever once we landed I was I came in with their customs really fast my luggage came out really so really great experience and then on the way back from Narita to LAX very smooth process the only thing is though like at Narita airport you can't check in too soon so I there's a time when the gate opens and I did get to the airport pretty early because I was traveling with Crystal and her flight left way before her flight left before me so I had to get to this airport at the same time as her because our parents were driving us so anyways I kind of had to wait around and you know I had luggage with me so I couldn't really do much until I could check in once we checked in though the process was really fast the service was really friendly and then again once I got to my gate everything moved by really fast you know they have it very orderly where to stand so not everyone's like rushing to you know get on the aircraft they make sure to put everyone in their zones this time you know I was still the last zone even though I checked in 40 hours in advance but you know this time there was overhead bin space above me so my luggage was right above me and again the bathrooms were pretty clean every time I went inside there was you know toothbrush toothpaste the meals were decent as well customer service is always super friendly I do like the crew members on Singapore Airlines they're always like you know go a step beyond to make you feel comfortable they're super friendly the only thing I do want to note with Singapore Airlines is that their carry-on weight limit is really really limited so if you have a suitcase that's pretty heavy even though it's a carry-on they will weigh it and if it's over their weight limit they will make you check it in that's it I hope you like this review if you did please give it a thumbs up and don't
