Intro:
Hey, guys. This is Tera! Just a quick question, what comes to your mind when thinking of the word "apple"? Is it some sort of English alphabet pronunciation thing, you know, AAA-aaa-A-a-APPLE? We have all been through this when we were little. Is it the crispy, double-crusted, and syrupy apple pies? Or does that remind you of the very apple falling on Newton's head? I wonder how many of you guys came up with Steve Jobs? Well, yeah, today I’ll be taking you to the fancy, deluxe home of all Apple’s products, where those i-initial items are born. If you are a fan of Apple, do not miss it. And as usual, let’s take a look at today’s sentence.
Featured sentence: That's why office spaces are formed into pods, where a worker could be in deep concentration one minute, then bump into a colleague the next.
Tips:
worker: the vowel of this word is /ɝ/. This is not a hard one, but lots of people tend to pronounce it as /o/, it’s not correct. Be careful!
concentration: four syllables with the stress on the third syllable. Both the first and the second syllables have nasal sounds, "con" and "cen". Again, "con-cen-tra-tion".
colleague: two syllables with the stress on the first one. "co" is a short /kɑ/, whereas "lleague" all fall into a single syllable, which is a long /lig/. Together, "colleague".
**Kind reminder: college /ˈkɑlɪdʒ/, collage /kǝˈlɑʒ /
Vocab:
concentration (n.) KK [͵kɑnsɛnˋtreʃən] IPA /ˌkɑːn.sənˈtreɪ.ʃən/
def: the ability to think carefully about something you are doing and nothing else
專注
The new research claims that playing focus games can improve kids’ concentration.
新的研究指出玩專注遊戲可以改善小朋友的專注力。
colleague (n.) KK [ˋkɑlig] IPA /ˈkɑː.liːɡ/
def: one of a group of people who work together
同事
I was talking on the phone with my colleague when you went home.
你回家的時候,我正在跟我同事講電話。
bump into (v. phr.) KK [bʌmp ˋɪntu] IPA /bʌmp ˈɪn.tuː/
def: to meet someone you know when you have not planned to meet them
偶遇
She bumped into her ex-boyfriend in the department store.
她在百貨公司裡偶遇她的前男友。
Outro:
It’s indeed fabulous, isn’t it?
The translucent walls and doors in The Ring, 58,000-square-foot eating area, the two-story parking garage, the attractive landscaping, the artificial pond, the rectangular field, the Glendenning Barn, the fitness and wellness center, the sports field, and the terrific Steve Job Theater, nearly everything in Apple Park is detailed designed. No expense was spared in Apple Park! By the way, in fact, as many of you might already know, several other big tech companies also feature their brilliant headquarters. Here I provided the YouTube links for you to also peek into the headquarters of Microsoft and Google so that you can watch them along with Apple’s. Okay, I think we’re all wrapped up. Remember to get your recordings ready. I’ll see you in another episode.

這就是為什麼辦公空間是採用分離艙模式,這樣一來,員工也許在上一分鐘還全神貫注於工作,不受干擾,下一分鐘卻又可能突然和其他同事不期而遇。
