Andso I made a consciousefforttoshiftmyenergyawayfromschoolandtowardsotherthings.
See, don't getmewronglike I stillcareaboutschooland I stilltriedinschool.
Butthe 80 20 rulereallydoesapply.
Thatis, I cando 20% oftheschoolworkandget 80% ofthereward.
Maybenotthatextreme, butprettyclose.
Andso I decidedtodothatinsteadofaimingforhundredsandallofmythings I aimedfor, youknow, higheightieslownineties, andas a result, I wasabletofreeupsomuchtimeonmyscheduleforthingslikemakingYouTubevideosandextracurriculars.
Whatkeptmepostingvideosweekafterweekwasthepeople, thehumanimpactsthatsomemyvideoshad, and I foundmyselfdrawntomakemoreofthosevideosmorebutselfimprovementingrowth.
It's somethingthat I reallydeeplycareabout, that I'm realizing a lotofpeoplecareaboutandthat I canusemyprivilegebecause I'vebeenveryluckyinmylife, incrediblylucky, And I canusethatlucktothebenefitofthousandsandhundredsofthousandsofpeople.
Andtome, that's just a reallyworthypurpose.
Andit's somethingthat's drivingmerightnow, sothatfeels a littlebitlike I have a purposeinlife, likemypurposeistohelpus.
Manypeoplebecomeasamazingastheycanbe, andtobeabletosaythatis a hugeblessing, and I'm justincrediblygrateful.
Soifyouwanttofollowalongonthatjourney, feelfreetosubscribebecausethewaythat I'm doingthatrightnowisYouTube, but I'm notsurewhatthefutureofitwilllooklike.
I justknowthat I'm reallyexcitedforwhateveritmighthold.
Thefourthlesson.
I loveweirdanddiversecoursesandknowledge.
Sofirstsemesterthisyear I took a weirdcourse.
I took a ZenBuddhismcourse.
ItwascalledZenandtheArtofLiving, anditwas a seminarthathad 12 peopleinitandthentheprofessoranditwaspassedfail, sowedidn't havetoworryaboutgrades.
Andas a computersciencemajor, it's superweirdformetobeabletotakecourseslikethat.
Likeusuallyatleast, ah, universitiesinCanada.
Ifyou're a computersciencemajor, yourcourses, they'reprettymuchsetoutforyou.
Andthat's kindofthenatureof a liberalartseducation.
And I didn't reallyunderstandthatorappreciatethatuntilthisyear.
Butwhat I'm startingtolearnfromtakingtheseweirdcoursesliketheZencourse, butalsolikethepsychologistsuccessandfailureandtwosemestersofSwedishlearningfromthatandalsolearningfromreading a book a weekThisyear, I'm 25 ishbooksin I reallyappreciatediverseThought.
I likereadingaboutdifferentthingsandlearningaboutdifferentthingsandtryingtopull, youknow, elementsfrompsychologyandcomputerscienceand, youknow, religion, pullingthingsalltogether, tryingtocreatesomekindofcohesiveworldview.
Tome, that's what's reallyexcitingrightnowinacademics, andandit's what's reallykeepingmegoinginschool.
Andas I moveforward, thatlessonisjustgoingThioinformthecoursesthat I decidetotake.
So I think I'm gonnabemakinganefforttotakediversecoursescoursesthat I wouldn't havenecessarilyconsideredbecause I reallydoappreciatethatcomplexitythatitbringstomyworldinthefifthandfinallessonisthatHarvardisn't great.
Butifpeopleareonethingthat I didn't knowbeforethepastyear, andonethingthat I think a lotofpeopledon't knowisthatas a school, Harvardhonestlyisn't thatgreat.
I mean, theclassesverysimilartomostotheruniversityclasses.
Thefood, youknow, verysimilar.
Thedormrooms.
Verysimilar.
Thebuildings.
Verysimilar.
Obviously a lotofthesethings.
They'reniceandthey'rebeautiful, and I stillappreciatethemhugely.
And I thinkultimatelythat's a lessonthat a lotofpeopleneedtolearnisthatsometimesyouneedtocutoutnegativepeople, andyouneedtomake a realefforttobringpositivepeopleintoyourlifebecauseitwillbenefityoutremendously.
Andthat's a hugethingThat I learnedthisyearisthatit's lesssoabout, youknow, theclasses, thefacilities, whateverit's allabout, thepeople.
Sothosearethefivethingsthetopfivethingsthat I learnedfrommyfreshmanyear.
