All we did was listen to music

when I was younger growing up.

It's all we did.

I listen to a lot of The Beatles

and Avril Lavigne.

You know, I had all my phases.

I have Green Day and My Chemical Romance,

The Strokes and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Then it was like Tyler and Marina and the Diamonds,

and Lana Del Rey and everything.

I think if you listen to my music and what I create

and what me and my brother create together.

There's so much Beatles inspiration in there.

If you really listen for it.

Just 'cause their lyrics and

their harmonies just unbelievable.

Just like so nice to your ears.

They just feel good to listen to.

Growing up, I was in a choir, so there was always

a lot of harmonies around me.

I kind of got a good idea of what is gonna sound right,

or whatever.

Last year I was touring and

a very large thing that I learned was just

what is fun to do live and what gets the best reaction.

Just the most fun for me and the most fun for the crowd.

Me and my brother kind of just honed in on that.

We're like let's make an album that's going to

be really fun to tour and to dance around to.

To have people mosh to and jump around,

and get injured in the pit.

(laughs)

Going into writing, I think its always different.

It varies, which I think keeps us from

writing the same song over and over again.

I want to change it up and I feel like

especially with this album,

every single song is different from every song in the album.

My vocal delivery, the production, the key.

Just like any little detail, just to differentiate it.

- I like to write in characters a lot.

Especially me and brother, sometimes we'll just

sit down and be like, let's think about someone

and then think what their seeing.

What are they thinking?

What are they thinking about doing?

I don't know, I feel like its just really opened

my eyes especially to certain-

I mean I've done with people I know.

I've done it with people I've hurt.

I've done it with...people that don't exist.

It's a fantasy world and I feel like

the cool part about music is

that you can tell the truth.

100 percent, nothing but the truth.

Or you can completely lie.

I like the idea that my biggest supporter

could not like one of my songs

because its different, but that means

that there's somebody else

who hates everything I've ever put out.

And I put out this one song and their like "Oh."

I'm not doing it for the people that don't like it.

I'm doing it for the people that like it.

I'm just doing it for everyone.

The goal is just sound...I just don't want to sound

predictable ever, you know?
