The space occupied by a shape is called its area.
Let us find area of this rectangle.
To find its area, we need to find how many unit squares can fit in this rectangle.
A unit square is a square where each side is equal to 1 unit.

In this rectangle, we can fit 4 rows of 2 squares each.
Thus, its Area is equal to 4 into 2.
Is equal to 8 unit squares.
Here, 4 is length, 2 is the breadth.
Thus, area is equal to 4 into 2.
Is equal to Length into Breadth.
Let us find area of a square.
In this square, we can fit 2 rows of 2 squares each.
Thus, Area is equal to 2 into 2.
Is equal to 4 unit squares.
Here, 2 is the length of each side.
Thus, Area is equal to 2 into 2.
Is equal to Side into Side.
