where you really, really love someone,

but you have got to let them go or they gonna take you out.

When she's making reference to those good times,

that's for real. That's real talk.

- It's so personal to her. So, you immediately, off the bat,

on the first song, you go, "Okay, so that's the kind

of album this is gonna be." And "This is gonna be great."

- (FBE) So, this second track is called "needy,"

in which Ariana sings that it's okay to feel needed,

to want attention, and to care, and display emotions for others.

- Does this have anything to do with Pete Davidson

and his tweet?

in her life, so it really is just kind of a journal of sorts.

There's a lot of permission to be yourself in her music

and not living up to other people's standards or expectations.

- This album is confusing, because the last song was "needy,"

from the other songs I've heard already,

I'm actually not happy." What?!

I'm so confused right now. - ♪ Got a bad idea ♪

- This is something that you definitely do after a breakup, though,

or just any sort of bad experience. It's "Let me just forget

to numb the pain ♪ - I hate to admit it,

but it sounds like all of her other songs.

- ♪ Bad idea ♪ - I like it. That felt more anthemic.

- I have a feeling I'ma like every single song on this album.

So, it's a little covering up. You know, you make up,

but it's still under the surface, you know?

- ♪ ...ruin my makeup ♪ - It sounds really similar

to just other things that I've heard from her.

- It's very slow, though. I love you, Ari,

but I don't think I'm a fan of this one.

- The makeup on your face and making up in terms

of a relationship. They went well together

in terms of the track. - She has such great beats

no matter what. No wonder this album's everywhere,

everything at all times. - (FBE) Fans speculate

that this next song, "ghosting," is dedicated and about Ariana's exes,

the late Mac Miller and most recent ex Pete Davidson.

And fans think that this song serves as an apology of sort

to Pete for having to see Ariana in a negative state when she was

mourning the loss of her ex love.

- Ugh, I hear this is the one that makes people sad and crying.

And I haven't listened to it yet, because I've been afraid.

- ♪ I wish he were here instead ♪

♪ The one that living in your head ♪

♪ He just comes to visit... ♪ - But "ghostin" for Mac Miller,

that kind of hurts me a little bit. I'm kinda sad now.

- When you break up with somebody, it's 'cause you're not happy.

But that doesn't mean it was all bad.

- These songs get me the most, any time someone sings

about a dead relative or a dead lover, anything like that.

- I like the symphony bedtime vibes.

- It's very heartfelt, right? You can hear it in her voice.

- ♪ 'Stead of ghosting him ♪ - I'm so sad.

I miss Mac Miller. I'm gonna cry.

I'm legitimately tearing up a little bit.

- Ooh! She better tell it.

Can't remember the last time I felt this way about an album.

- I hate that I'm so invested in Ariana Grande's relationships,

because none of this has anything to do with me!

And yet, here I am feeling upset over this song. (chuckles)

- ♪ ...I see angel ♪ - I love this.

♪ Without a halo... ♪ - I think this is probably

kind of what she did with Pete then, where it was a relationship

that she jumped into really fast and kind of just had this image

of, "I'ma marry him." - That's what that first blush

of romantic love is. It's also idealized.

And then you hold that idealized version.

- ♪ But it was all in my head ♪ - See, at that point,

that's always your own fault. You're creating an image in your head.

- That voice. She can sing the phone book

and it would sound great. - All those songs we just heard,

there's not one on there that I'm like, "I don't understand

what she's talking about." They're all so heartfelt.

This feels like it came out of all the stuff

that we all got to see her go through.

If she's gonna release music, I would like to hear her singing

and not "rapping."

Such a good song. This is a song that I'm like...

everybody should listen to. - I can't remember those other songs.

The one about her needing space, the one about being needy,

those are emotions that you might feel from time to time,

but "thank u, next" is this sort of long-term emotion

that she's gonna feel for a huge part of her life.

- (FBE) Lastly is "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored,"

where Grande tries to get a boy she's attracted to

to break up with his girlfriend so she can have him herself.
