For instance, what do you see in this drawing? Most people see a duck, 大部分的人看到的是鴨子, but some of you might have seen a rabbit! Whichever you saw, you are correct! This is just a trick drawing 這只是個有趣的圖畫 to show you that all brains work differently. The brain is your body's computer, 大腦是你身體的電腦(運算機) it works differently for all of us, 每個人的身體電腦都有著不同運轉模式 and controls: 跟控制功能 how you learn 像是, 你怎麼學習的方式, that's why we are all good at different things 這也是為什麼我們每個人擅長的東西都不一樣的原因, how you feel 還有你對事物的感受 which is why we all feel different emotions 這也是為何我們會對(同一件)事情有著不同的感受, and how you communicate. Sometimes the brain is connected in such a way 有時候大腦就是在某種程度上跟這些東西聯結著 it affects the senses 它(大腦)影響著我們的感覺官能, and how we perceive and read situations and interactions. This is known as autism. 這就是眾所皆知的自閉 Many people have autism 許多人都有自閉 so it's likely you already know someone who is autistic, 所以你認識的的某個人可能就有自閉症, and for this reason 因為這樣的原因(大腦的運作不同) it's useful to know a little bit about autism. The special wiring inside an autistic brain 自閉症大腦的線路運轉特殊 can sometimes make the person 因此有時候會讓他們 good at tasks we may find difficult 擅長於我們覺得困難的任務 such as mathematics, 像是數學, drawing or music. It can also do the opposite 但相反地, and activities we find too easy 他們同樣也會覺得我們認定非常簡單的活動 are incredibly difficult to them 對他們來說是超級無敵難的, such as making friends. The senses constantly send information to your brain 感受官能不斷地傳送訊息到你的大腦 about your surroundings and other people. 是關於你周遭環境跟其他人的 However, 然而, when a person's brain and its senses don't communicate well, 當一個人的大腦和他的感受官能沒辦法好好溝通時, the brain can become overwhelmed and confused 大腦就會GG(崩潰)而且覺得困惑 affecting how they see the world. Picture yourself walking down the street. This is how an autistic brain 這是自閉症大腦的運作 may experience the same walk. Sadly in many cases the person 令人難過的是, 在很多情況下自閉症者 can't say out loud how they feel. So even though there's chaos going on in their heads 所以即使他們大腦一片混亂, they seem OK on the outside, 他們的外在似乎是沒什麼事的, unable to ask for help. We all develop behaviours to help us feel calm 我們都會出現一些行為來幫助我們冷靜, in uncomfortable situations: 當我們遭遇不舒服的狀況時 We may look away, 我們會假裝沒看見(望向遠方), hug ourselves, 擁抱我們自己, chew our fingernails, 咬指甲, fidget, 煩躁不安, bite our lips and so on. Equally, autistic people develop behaviours 同樣地, 自閉症的人會出現幫助他們克服 that help them cope with these intense moments. These actions may seem unusual 這些行為看起來似乎有些不尋常, but they're just their way to feel calm. When they happen it means they are having a hard time. The kind thing to do 我們可以表現出更善意的回應, is not to give them an even harder time by: 而不是讓他們更混亂:像是 getting cross... 故意忽視他們... or mocking them. Remember, 請務必記住, just because a Playstation can't read an XBox game, PS和XBox(遊戲機)無法讀取時, it doesn't mean it's broken. People with autism 自閉症者 need friends who are willing to take 需要朋友主動花時間 the time to know them. With good communication and plenty of patience, 如果有好的溝通跟更多的耐心, everyone would be better off. People with autism are not ill or broken, 患有自閉症不是生病或是不健全, they simply have a unique view of the world 他們只是很簡單地對世界的眼光與眾不同罷了, and with a little support from their friends 給他們一些朋友般的支持, they might just be able to share that view with us. Autism can make amazing things happen. Subtitles by the Amara.org community
