about this beautiful place?

這個美麗的地方嗎

The place we're standing on right now was once a part of the sea.

我們站的地方 以前都是海

During 1823, Zengwun River flooded

1823年 曾文溪

and change its courses several times,

幾次氾濫改道

and the mass sediment

很多泥沙淤積

contributed to many new lands.

形成許多海埔新生地

In 1989, the estuary of Zengwun River

1989年 曾文溪口曾一度

was designated as industrial land.

列為工業區預定地

Thanks for the efforts of many bird conservation advocates,

經過許多愛鳥人士極力爭取

in 2002, around 300 hectares of the north shore

直到2002年才將曾文溪出海口北岸

of the estuary where black-faced spoonbills inhabited

約300公頃的黑面琵鷺主要棲息地

was designated as the “Black-faced Spoonbill Reserve.”

劃為「黑面琵鷺保護區」

As the water stage of this wetland is adjusted by a water gate,

這片濕地透過水門控制水量

the tidal range is relatively small.

漲退潮的高低差不會太大

This makes the wetland a great habitat for migratory birds.

非常適合候鳥棲息

In addition, the mangrove forest

除此之外 在河海口的交接處

at the estuary

有非常多的紅樹林

is home to plants growing on the seabed as well

有底棲的植物

as fishes, shrimps, and scallops.

魚蝦貝類

They attract a wide variety of birds

也吸引非常多的鳥類來這裡

and form a complete food chain.

Black-faced spoonbills come here

黑面琵鷺之所以喜歡來這裡

not only for the diversified ecosystem,

除了具有多樣性的生態系統之外

but also for the fish farming industry in Cigu.

也與七股的養殖業有關

There are lots of milkfish farms in this place,

七股有很多魚塭養殖虱目魚

and after the fishes are harvested in fall,

秋收後

the water inside will be drained,

會把魚塭的水放掉

leaving in them some tilapias

留下一些吳郭魚

as well as other fishes, shrimps, and scallops.

This is a very suitable environment for black-faced spoonbills

to hunt for food.

There are three kinds of precious birds in the Old Taijiang Inner Sea:

台江有三寶

First, the black-faced spoonbill.

第一寶是黑面琵鷺

Second, the pied avocet.

第二寶是反嘴鴴

And third, the black-winged stilt.

第三寶是高蹺鴴

Black-faced spoonbills migrate to Taiwan as their wintering ground

黑面琵鷺來台渡冬的時間大約是

during October to next March.

十月至隔年三月

During the time when black-faced spoonbills are not here,

黑面琵鷺非渡冬期間

that is, between May and August,

也就是每年的五月至八月左右

the area is open for local residents with capture licenses.

開放七股當地居民申請採捕證

They can enter the conservation area to capture hard clams,

可以進入保護區採捕文蛤

red tipped clams, and razor clams,

赤嘴及竹蟶

as these clams are not the food of migratory birds.

這些物種與候鳥覓食的食物沒有衝突

Capturing them with manpower not only helps loosen the soil

透過人工採捕不但可以翻攪溼地保育生態

but also provides a source of financial support for residents.

同時也為提供居民生計

The sea route starts from Korea,
