When I have students transition from one activity to another, it's really
important that they know what they're doing.
In my class, I usually have them in a traditional setup, which is about six,
seven rows of students, maybe five, six in a row.
When we go into a group activity, the first thing that I do is, I have on the
board who is in what group? After I give the instructions, I have the
students look at the board to see which group they're in.
I point out where they are going to have their groups.
Now when you move in your groups, this is how you, I want you to place your desk In
twos and twos so that these group of four is together.
Group one, group two, group three, group four, group five, group six.
Once everyone know where they're going, and who they're going to be with, I take
my watch and I time them. On your mark, get set, go!
And then, they move into their groups and at 30 seconds, they need to be there.
[NOISE] That was great, 24 seconds. I can guarantee that the first time you
will do this it will not happen in 30 seconds.
As a matter of fact, the first time, it took my class 8 minutes.
But with continued practice. You'll be able to get your students to
transition in less than 30 seconds.
